1 How do I unlink or relink a computer, phone, or tablet from my account? To change the Dropbox account your computer is linked to, unlink your computer from your account settings or desktop application preferences. Unlinking your computer from your Dropbox account means Dropbox will no longer sync changes to the files and folders in your Dropbox folder from that computer, effectively turning off the Dropbox service. The files themselves remain untouched in your Dropbox folder. To unlink your computer from your account: Unlink a computer from the Dropbox website 1. Sign in to the Dropbox website. 2. Click your name from the top-right of any page to open the account menu. 3. Select Settings from the account menu. 4. Select the Security tab. Click here for a shortcut. 5. From the My devices section, click Unlink next to the computer you'd like to disassociate from your account. 4 At this point, your account is unlinked and Dropbox will prompt you to link your computer to another account or prompt you to create a new account. If you are linking your computer to another account, you may want to move your old Dropbox folder somewhere else first. Otherwise, when you link another account, Dropbox will ask if you want to merge its existing files with your new account. For our advanced users If the Unlink this computer... button in the preferences window is not working properly, or you just like to do things the hard way, you can force Dropbox to unlink as follows: Force unlink your Windows computer 1. Exit Dropbox by right-clicking the tray icon, and choose Exit from the menu. 2. Open any Windows Explorer window by double-clicking any folder or opening a folder through the Start menu. 3. In the location bar at the top of the window, type %APPDATA% and hit Enter. 4. Delete the Dropbox folder. Force unlink your Mac 1.
