There was no resource for determining what equipment is necessary for procedures, nor how to perform those procedures. The existing method for tracking and evaluation of resident procedures was not effective.

4 Mobile web apps Website designed to look like an application Opened in a phone s web browser More limited functionality Written in HTML and JavaScript Same programming language used on all devices Advantages of mobile web apps Works on any type of phone, tablet, etc. Can look like a native app Much easier to make No app store approval process Updates are available immediately

5 Disadvantages of mobile web apps Limited functionality Slower than a native app Mainly for basic content and simple functions Requires internet to use Need to open browser and type in URL Won t show up in the app store Mobile app example Facebook iphone Android

7 Advantages of native apps Faster Advanced functionality Camera, compass, GPS, push notifications, etc. Often more visually appealing Can be used WITHOUT internet Disadvantages of native apps Only works with the device it is written for Need separate programmers for each device Can be very expensive to make Distribute app through app store Requires approval by Apple, Google, etc. Pay annual fee to Apple to distribute app Updates are more difficult and expensive

12 Problem #2 Evaluations Problem #2 Evaluations It is important to evaluate residents in primary care clinic and the ED. Attendings did not consistently complete evaluations. Paper evaluations were attempted, but often were not completed. An easier method of evaluating residents in these settings was required.
