2 MOBILE APPLICATIONS AND MOBILE SITES Mobile App or Native App A mobile application (or mobile app) is a software application designed to run on smartphones, tablet computers and other mobile devices. Mobile Website Similar to any other website in that it consists of browser-based HTML pages that are linked together and accessed over the Internet.

3 MOBILE SITE VERSUS MOBILE APPLICATION Differences: - Mobile sites are not downloaded on a device - Mobile apps must be specifically built for multiple platforms (iphone, Android, etc) - Mobile sites cannot access native functions of the device such as camera, or gps. - Mobile apps do not require a network connection

4 A MOBILE APPLICATION... Is software built specifically for a mobile platform Is downloaded to a mobile device through an app store Is about making tasks easier or providing entertainment value Is accessible with or without internet connection Can take advantage of mobile device features such as camera, gps, and gyro (motion detection)

5 NECESSARY COMPONENTS Decide on which platform to develop on. Most commonly this would either be Android or ios The problem or use case you are trying to correct Wireframes that layout how the entire mobile app is going to work Designs on how you want the app to look. This most likely is done using your wireframes and with Photoshop or similar software program

6 SOLVE A PROBLEM - All mobile applications need to solve some type of problem - Successful apps solve problems needed by a large amount of people - Most developers successfully solve problems that they themselves experience

9 DECIDE ON TECHNOLOGIES AND REQUIREMENTS After you have decided on a problem, you need to break it down into smaller parts and determine how you are going to develop the application to solve the problem At this stage developers will write down a to-do-list of features needed Research is done to see if any additional technologies are needed to build this application

10 MOCKUPS AND DESIGN At this point designs are plotted and drawn out. This can take place on paper or through various software programs Programs such as: Photoshop, GIMP, Illustrator These designs typically go through many iterations before approval and may change throughout the development process
