1 How to configure WiFi Power Pack on Android Device Introduction Application Note Number: 271 This application note will show you how to setup the WiFi Power Pack to use with Star Printers on Android device. Depending on the application, further installation of printer drivers may be needed. Static IP Address through telnet.. Page 9 I. WiFi Power Pack (TP-Link) Setup via WiFi 1. Connect the TP-Link s USB to an AC power supply or USB port of a Windows/Mac computer. Next, connect the TP-Link s Ethernet cable to the 100/10 Base port on the printer. The printer should be power off. 2. Confirm the TP-Link has a solid green or blue light. 11/11, V1.0 Page 1

2 3. On the android device, go to Settings. 4. Go to Wi-Fi. 11/11, V1.0 Page 2

3 5. Select Starwifi. 6. Confirm Starwifi is connected. 7. Open a web browser. 11/11, V1.0 Page 3

4 8. Type into the address bar and hit go. 9. It should prompt for authentication so please type the following: User Name: admin Password: admin 10. The TP-Link greeting screen will appear. 11/11, V1.0 Page 4

5 11. Click on Quick Setup in the menu on the left side. 12. Click on Next button. 13. Select Client (Client Mode) and click Next button. 11/11, V1.0 Page 5

6 14. Click on Survey button. 15. The AP List should appear. The SSID column lists the name of available networks. Find the network you wish to connect your printer to then click on Connect. 11/11, V1.0 Page 6

7 16. Enter the password to the network then click on Next button. 17. Click on Reboot button. 18. A screen will appear so click on OK button. 11/11, V1.0 Page 7

8 19. The TP-Link will restart. 20. Once completed, you will no longer be able to access the website ( ) 11/11, V1.0 Page 8

9 II. Static IP Address through telnet 1. At this point, the connection to should be lost. 2. Connect to your existing network on the Android device. 3. Perform a self-test page, by turning off the printer, holding the FEED button in the front then turning the printer back on. Hold the FEED button until the printer starts to print. NOTE: For the SP700 hold the feed button until it beeps then release. 4. On the second page towards the bottom, the IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Default Gateway will appear. (Your numbers may be different.) 5. Go to the App Store, and download Telnet Lite by MochaSoft. Open the application, once it downloaded and installed. 11/11, V1.0 Page 9

10 6. Once the application is open, then click on Configure. 7. Click on New 8. Type in the IP Address that printed from the self-test page, then click on Connect. 11/11, V1.0 Page 10

11 9. A blue screen will appear asking for login information. Please type the following: Login: root Password: public 10. Type 1 and click on enter. 11. Type 1 and click on enter. 11/11, V1.0 Page 11

12 12. Type the IP Address from the self-test page and click on enter. (You number may be different.) 13. Type 2 then press enter. Next, type the Subnet Mask from the bottom of the self-test page and click on enter. (You numbers may be different). 14. Type 3 then press enter. Next, type the Default Gateway from the bottom of the self-test page and click on enter. (You numbers may be different). 11/11, V1.0 Page 12

14 19. The session with telnet should be closed. 20. The printer should have printed the printer s static IP Address. (Your numbers should be the same as the numbers at the bottom of the second printout.) 11/11, V1.0 Page 14

15 21. Once the self-test page prints then turn the printer off. 22. Remove the USB cable from AC power supply, and plug it into DK-module. Then plug the DK- Module into the DK port on the back of the printer. 23. Congratulations, you have successfully setup your Star Micronics Printer with the WiFi Power Pack! 11/11, V1.0 Page 15
