1 INTEGRATED VIRTUAL LEARNING ENVIRONMENT (IVLE) IVLE is a learning management system, designed to manage and support training and education over the Internet. IVLE provides numerous easy-to-set-up online tolls and resources that lecturers may use to complement existing classroom-based learning. These include Chat Rooms, Discussion Forums, Glossary, Course Web Builder, Assessments and etc. Web interface to all tools and resources needed for collaborative teaching and learning Tight integration with NUSNET authentication with single user-id and password Drag-and-Drop courseware publishing Links to synchronous services such NUSCAST, video conferencing Comprehensive Courseware Creation Web site Workshops and one-to-one consultations on IVLE
2 ABOUT IVLE IVLE is an online courseware management system with a compendium of tools and resources. NUS staff can mix-and-match different IVLE tools in their course delivery to students. If you are new to IVLE, we encourage you to experiment with various tools for your course delivery. We recommend the following approach. Preview the samples done by other staff members in relation to course outline and tools. Once you get a general idea, you can (a) create a good course outline, (b) create frequently asked questions for your course, and (c) provide a good selection of tools such as a Discussion Forum, Course Calendar and Workbin to communicate and collaborate with you students. Be prepared to use the tools and encourage your students to explore at the same time. Once you have used the tools, you will understand how easy it is. You can even suggest to the Centre for Instructional Technology on how to improve it further. Always keep your course outline and web pages updated. If you no longer teach a particular course, please delete its course materials from IVLE. ASYNCHRONOUS SYNCHRONOUS Course Calendar Distribution List FAQ Workbins Lecture Plan Assessment (QUIZ) Grade Book Project Management Discussion Forum TOOLS TO HELP YOU Course Web Site Accounts Chat Room Desktop Video Conferencing NUS Live Lectures Assessment (QUIZ) Prepare quizzes that are automatically marked to gauge if students understand your materials Chat Room Communicate in real-time with your students from your desktop
3 Class Distribution List/Announcements Post urgent announcements and messages to your students. Course Web Builder Provide a three-step process to create a course website. The website design can be selected from a collection of templates and the web pages are fully customized. Course Outline Create a comprehensive introduction to the class materials. Discussion Forum Provide a venue for your students to discuss topic relating to your courses or after ezycontent CIT has collaborated with some of the major publishers for their online contents to be made available on IVLE. When you recommend a book from ezycontent for your course module and it has online contents from the publishers, it will be made available in IVLe. Tour the ezycontent catalogue list at Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) builder and Glossary Build frequently asked questions on your classes so that you do not have to repeat the same answers every semester. Lesson Plan Provide a weekly class overview of the lesson so students can better prepare for your classes Workbins Maintain an assignment and distribution repository so students can submit their assignments to you electronically.
