Strengthen establish new innovative partnerships to take action on CVD. Map resource opportunities for scaling up joint actions. MODERATOR: Dr. Pedro Orduñez, MD, PhD Dr. Pedro Ordunez provides technical advisory for regional noncommunicable disease strategy, policy and program development at the Pan American Health Organization/ World Health Organization. He has particular expertise in cardiovascular diseases prevention and control, chronic diseases epidemiology and, health system and services policy and management. He joined the PAHO/WHO from the University Hospital in Cienfuegos, Cuba a WHO Collaborative Center--where he was Director General and also, from University of Medical Science, Cienfuegos, where he was Professor of Medicine and Public Health and, Principal Investigator of CARMEN. Board certified in internal medicine, he received his medical degree from the University of Medical Science, Cienfuegos, Cuba, and completed Internal Medicine residency training at University Hospital in Cienfuegos. He has a degree in Public Health from the School of Public Health, Havana, Cuba and doctorate (PhD) in Public Health from Medical University of Havana. He is former postdoctoral fellow in epidemiology at the John Hopkins School of Public Health, Baltimore, US CVD burden in the Americas CVD priorities and the best buys interventions. 3 Name and affiliation of speakers First speaker: Dr. Sonia Angell Dr. Sonia Angell provides leadership for global noncommunicable disease strategy, policy and program development at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Center for Global Health. She has particular expertise in environment and clinical care systems policy, programming and evaluation. She joined the CDC from the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene where she directed the Cardiovascular Disease Prevention and Control Program. Some of her program s key accomplishments included regulating the use of trans fat in NYC restaurants, the National Salt Reduction Initiative, establishing nutrition standards for food procured by NYC government agencies, and clinical quality improvement initiatives to improve blood pressure and cholesterol control. She was a member of the Institute of Medicine Committee on Strategies to Reduce Sodium Intake in the United States, is a member of the Pan American Health Organization Salt Expert Group. She has provided consultation to the World Health Organization in various areas including developing strategies for global sodium reduction, monitoring and evaluation, and the Technical Work Group on Global Noncommunicable Disease Targets and Indicators. Vision of PAHO as a broker for the Americas Partnership for Cardiovascular Health: a Fourth speaker: Dr. Claudio Hegenberger Claudio Hegenberger obtained his MD degree with honors at the University of Buenos Aires and is a specialist in Internal Medicine. He was a teaching instructor at the University of Buenos Aires and an associate professor of Internal Medicine at the Universidad del Salvador. He attended a Post-graduate Program at the Mount Sinai Medical Center (Miami), a Program in International Business at the Universidad de Ciencias Sociales y Empresariales (Buenos Aires) and a Master in Strategic Marketing at the same university. In Sep 2011, he obtained a Master degree in Pharmaceutical Medicine at Hibernia College, Ireland. Claudio joined Pfizer Argentina in 1998 as Regional Clinical Data Operations Manager, holding after that many different local and international positions responsible for medical related areas, such as clinical research, medical and regulatory affairs, medical information and pharmacovigilance. 5 Fifth Speaker: Mr. Herb Riband Herb Riband joined Medtronic in 1999 at the company s European headquarters in Switzerland. In 2008, he was appointed to his current role as Vice President External Affairs International for Medtronic's International region comprising all markets outside the USA, with responsibility for healthcare policy, reimbursement and market access activities. He has been an active supporter of the Medtronic Foundation since 2001, and in 2010 was selected to join the Foundation s Board of Directors. In connection with his Medtronic role, Mr. Riband has long been active in Eucomed, the European medical technology industry association. He has served as Chair of the Eucomed Public Affairs Network since 2009 and is a long-standing member of Eucomed s International Affairs Group and Corporate Advisory Council. Since 2008 Mr. Riband has served as a member of two industry/government bodies, the UK Ministerial Medical Technology Strategy Group (MMTSG) and the Geneva-based Council for Multilateral Business Diplomacy (CMBD). Prior to joining Medtronic, Mr. Riband held a variety of international legal and business advisory roles in London, Madrid, Connecticut and Washington D.C. He has lived and worked in Europe for nearly 20 years. A native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Mr. Riband received degrees from Cornell University and the University of Michigan Law School.
