3 Keynote Speaker ~ Saving our Sons ~ Friday, June 17, 2016 Dr. Roland J. Thorpe, Jr., PhD, MS, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health, Behavior, and Society, and Director of the Program for Research on Men s Health, Project Director, and the Research Education and Training Core Director in the Hopkins Center for Health Disparities Solutions. He holds a joint appointment in the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Department of Medicine, Division of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology. Dr. Thorpe is also a Visiting Research Fellow at Duke University s Center on Biobehavioral Research on Health Disparities where the focus of his work and collaboration is on improving the lives of African Americans. Dr. Thorpe is a gerontologist and epidemiologist whose research agenda focuses on the association of race, socioeconomic status, and segregation with health and functional outcomes among middle- to old age adults with a focus on men s health disparities. He serves as principal investigator of the National Black Men s Health Pilot Study, co-investigator of the Disparities in Prostate Cancer Treatment Modality and Quality of Life: Baseline Study and the Son s Study for Prostate Cancer Risk Awareness Study. His work appears in flagship aging, public health, and men s health journals including, Journals of Gerontology Medical Sciences and Journals of Gerontology Social Science, Social Science and Medicine, American Journal of Men s Health, and International Journal of Men s Health. Dr. Thorpe s research has been supported by the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities and the National Institute on Aging. He teaches courses on health disparities, advanced methods in health services research, and research design and methods in social and behavioral sciences. Dr. Thorpe is a Fellow of the Gerontological Society of America, Chair of the Task Force on Minority Issues in Gerontology, and an Associate Editor of the inaugural Handbook on Minority Aging. Dr. Thorpe serves on the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health Advisory Committee for Minority Health. He also serves on the American Psychological Association Working Group on Health Disparities for Boys and Men, and Boys of Color Collaboration. He is a Guest Editor of Family and Community Health on the topic of Social Determinants of Men s Health Disparities, and lead Guest Editor of Ethnicity and Disease on the topic of Minority Men s Health Explaining Disparities Using a Life Course Perspective.

4 Keynote Speaker ~ Fear, Faith and Fatherhood ~ Thursday, June 16, 2016 Dr. B. Gerard Davis, DMin, MBA, MS, is a native of Miami, FL, and currently resides in Riverdale, GA. He and his wife (Sheila) have been married 31 years and are the proud parents of four adult children (Tiffani, Nicole, Christopher, & Alphonso). Dr. Davis has over 20 years of leadership experience in a variety of contexts including local churches, higher education, secondary education, primary education, and several nonprofit & for profit organizations. He has served as Pastor, Assistant Pastor, President, Vice President, Principal, Administrator, and Director, among other leadership roles. Additionally, Dr. Davis has over 20 years of teaching, counseling, and training experience in local churches, educational institutions, and business settings, in a wide variety of subject areas including biblical studies, theological studies, leadership development, management & corporate communication, family & marriage, computer programming, & computer-based information systems. Dr. Davis graduated valedictorian of his high school class (Miami Northwestern Sr. High, 1982) and has gone on to earn seven degrees. These include a Doctor of Ministry (Dallas Theological Seminary, 2004), Master of Theology (Dallas Theological Seminary, 1995), Master of Arts in Biblical Studies (Dallas Theological Seminary, 1992), and Master of Arts in Christian Education (Dallas Theological Seminary, 1992); Master of Business Administration in Information Systems (Georgia State University, 2014), Master of Science in Computer Information Systems (Georgia State University, 2012), and Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (University of Pittsburgh, 1986). His programs of study have included pastoral leadership & communication, urban ministries & church planting, educational supervision, business management, software development, information systems development, and project management. In addition, Dr. Davis is accomplished in sports. He was awarded a full Division I athletic scholarship at University of Pittsburgh, playing running back and wide receiver on the football team. He was also sprinter on the track & field team. Later, Dr. Davis became a USA Track & Field certified coach and has trained several athletes to become state, regional, and national champions. Dr. Davis is currently IT Project Manager at Travelport and is currently in the process of relaunching Greater Vision Ministries to assist churches and other nonprofit organizations in developing high-impact ministries and services in their communities.
