You may need to relaunch the installation a couple of times if it at first fails to make the required connections but, with perseverance, the process should eventually complete as long as you are not trying to do it over the school network, which definitely won t work. 12. Once the installation has finished, you should have a full suite of MS Office applications available on your computer. These programs can be launched in the usual way (e.g. from the Start button on a PC) Installing Applications on a tablet or smartphone Navigate to the appropriate store to search for and download the Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or OneNote apps: Android devices: Google Play Store Apple devices: Apple App Store Windows Phone or Windows 10 device: Windows Store Detailed guides to obtaining and installing the software on phones and tablets can be found at on the Microsoft support site ( US/article/Office 365 mobile setup Help 7dabb6cb b6 81fe 767e0b1f014f ). 6

11 FEEDBACK Teachers may print out work and write feedback or give electronic feedback via SEQTA, Turnitin or . SEQTA, Turnitin, Microsoft Word and Adobe Reader allow comments to be added and the document can be sent back to the student. Internet usage Personal Computer Usage policy (Extract) Internet access is expensive and has been provided to assist students' education. Students must use it only with permission, and not in any unauthorised way. Students will have a monthly limit and risk losing access if they go over that limit. Senior School students will be allocated 2Gb and Lower School students 1Gb. Certain subject areas may be granted additional access. Ultimately, it is the responsibility of individual students to ensure their behaviour does not contravene school rules or rules imposed by parents/guardians. The school is aware that definitions of "offensive" and "inappropriate" will vary considerably between cultures and individuals. The school is also aware that no security system is perfect and that there is always the possibility of inappropriate material, intentionally and unintentionally, being obtained and displayed. Students must not deliberately enter or remain in any site that has any of the following content: Nudity, obscene language or discussion intended to provoke a sexual response Violence Information about committing any crime Information about making or using weapons, booby traps, dangerous practical jokes or "revenge" activities Students must: Follow school guidelines and procedures when preparing materials for publication on the web Not use material from other websites unless they have permission from the person who created the material. If unsure, they should check with their teacher Not access any other material that their parents or guardians have forbidden them to see. If students encounter any such site, they must immediately turn off the personal computer and notify a teacher. They should not show the site to their friends first. Cybersafety Staying safe online Keep your profile set to private and check your settings regularly. Don't share personal information, and protect yourself from strangers online. Think about your personal safety before you 'check in' or use location based services. Manage your digital reputation responsibly. Respect others and look after each other online. Dealing with cyberbullying Block the cyberbully. 11

12 Take a screenshot as evidence of the cyberbullying. Report offensive material to your teacher or parent/guardian. Talk to a friend or trusted adult. For more help, call the Kids Helpline ( ) or contact the police ( for non-urgent matters or 000 for emergencies). 14 ICT Rules Password Management Treat your password like your toothbrush. Don t let anybody else use it, and get a new one every six months Clifford Stoll To connect to our network, access and manage your online accounts you will need usernames and passwords. This process will be with you for the rest of your life. It pays to create a secure password that you can remember. Here are some tips from thegeekstuff.com Following two rules are bare minimal that you should follow while creating a password. Rule 1 Password Length: Stick with passwords that are at least 8 characters in length. The more character in the passwords is better, as the time taken to crack the password by an attacker will be longer. 10 characters or longer are better. Rule 2 Password Complexity: Should contain at least one character from each of the following group. At least 4 characters in your passwords should be each one of the following. Lower case alphabets Upper case alphabets Numbers Special Characters I call the above two rules combined as 8 4 Rule (Eight Four Rule): 14

15 8 = 8 characters minimum length 4 = 1 lower case + 1 upper case + 1 number + 1 special character.
