4 High Achievers Program At Swinburne we understand that high-performing students need opportunity to develop and excel in their field of interest. This is why we created the Swinburne High Achievers Program. The program recognises students who demonstrate exceptional potential to benefit from access to research and industry projects. Students who receive one of the following scholarships will have the opportunity to be part of the High Achievers Program: Vice-Chancellor s Excellence Scholarship (see page 5) Dean s Outstanding Achievement Scholarship (see page 7) More than just a scholarship, the High Achievers Program offers a university experience unlike any other. Being part of this program means having access to the following: a guaranteed place in a study tour related to your degree a research group or project, or industry program, from the first year of your degree mentoring from senior research students like-minded peers to share insights and networking opportunities. You will also become part of Swinburne s Student Ambassador Program, representing Swinburne at key events. Visit 4

5 Scholarships for commencing students Vice-Chancellor s Excellence Scholarships Recipients of this scholarship receive $5000 per annum for the normal duration of their chosen degree, a one-off payment of $2000 towards an international study experience and a guaranteed place in Swinburne s student accommodation. NOTE: Scholarship recipients are guaranteed a place in Swinburne s student accommodation in Semester 1 in the multi-share accommodation. Semester 2 accommodation is subject to availability. Priority will be given to students who are living 80 kilometres or further from Hawthorn. Application to live on campus is still required. Visit accommodation/residential/apply Applicants must: achieve a minimum ATAR of or exceptional academic history meet the prerequisites of their chosen degree. NOTE: International students and non-year 12 are also eligible to apply. Application must be made through VTAC by selecting the relevant scholarship VTAC code as a preference. 9 Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Scholarship Recipients of this scholarship receive $2000 per annum for the normal duration of their chosen degree, a one-off payment of $2000 towards an international study experience or $3000 towards a study exchange at Swinburne s Sarawak campus and a guaranteed place in Swinburne s student accommodation. Students who continue to a masters or honours level qualification will also receive the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Scholarship for each year of this degree. NOTE: Scholarship recipients are guaranteed a place in Swinburne s student accommodation in Semester 1 in the multi-share accommodation. Semester 2 accommodation is subject to availability. Priority will be given to students who are living 80 kilometres or further from Hawthorn. Application to live on campus is still required. Visit accommodation/residential/apply Applicants must: achieve a minimum ATAR of or exceptional academic history meet the prerequisites for their chosen degree. NOTE: International students and non-year 12 are also eligible to apply. No application required. Students who have applied via VTAC for a Swinburne course in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics will automatically be considered for a STEM Scholarship. George Swinburne Merit Scholarship Recipients of this scholarship receive $1000 per annum for the normal duration of their chosen degree, a one-off payment of $2000 towards an international study experience and a guaranteed place in Swinburne s student accommodation. Students may undertake study in any on-campus bachelor degree at Swinburne. NOTE: Scholarship recipients are guaranteed a place in Swinburne s student accommodation in Semester 1 in the multi-share accommodation. Semester 2 accommodation is subject to availability. Priority will be given to students who are living 80 kilometres or further from Hawthorn. Application to live on campus is still required. Visit accommodation/residential/apply Applicants must: achieve a minimum ATAR of or exceptional academic history meet the prerequisites for their chosen degree. 10 Scholarships for commencing students continued Discipline-specific scholarships Aviation ``Piers Fowler Professional Development Initiative Scholarship The Piers Fowler Professional Development Initiative Scholarship is offered to students who wish to attend one of the professional aviation conferences in Australia, namely The International Symposium of the Australian Aviation Psychology Association (AAvPA), the International Society of Air Safety Investigators (ISASI) Seminar, Aviation Law Association of Australian and New Zealand (ALAANZ) Conference, or SafeSkies Conference, to foster engagement in professional aviation activities in the early stages of their career. This will provide students the opportunity to communicate and engage with industry experts and get to know the latest developments of the aviation industry, which in turn will greatly foster the students career development. The scholarship is valued at $700. Each scholarship recipient will be given the opportunity of an industry mentor. be an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident or holder of a permanent humanitarian visa be a commencing or current student studying full-time in a single or double Aviation or Aviation (Management) undergraduate degree at Swinburne achieve a minimum ATAR of or for a current student, achieve a credit average for all completed units demonstrate financial need demonstrate how attending a professional aviation conference will benefit their study and future career in the aviation industry. ``Sir Reginald Ansett Scholarship Aviation The Sir Reginald Ansett Scholarship for Aviation is offered to assist a student with costs associated with aviation studies, enabling them to realise their passion for an aviation career and full academic potential by reducing the need to work outside of study. The scholarship is valued at $10,000 per year, for a period of three years. 11 Business and Management ``Apollo Fund First in Family Scholarship The First in Family Scholarship is awarded to commencing business students who will be the first in their family to attend university and who has experienced disadvantage. The scholarship is valued at $7500 per year, for a period of three years. The total value of the scholarship is $22,500. be an Australian citizen or an Australian permanent resident. be a commencing student studying full-time in an on-campus single or double Business undergraduate degree at Swinburne in Semester 1, 2016 be the first in their family to attend university not have a previous university qualification demonstrate financial need. 4 January March 2016 ``Centre for Social Impact Scholarship The Centre for Social Impact (CSI) awards scholarships to students from the Graduate Certificate in Social Impact who: demonstrate potential for and commitment to leading, supporting or contributing to better social outcomes in the business, public and/or social purpose sectors in the past and future have a need for and will benefit from the scholarship to enable their studies in social impact through the Graduate Certificate. Scholarships are awarded based on a combination of merit (50%) and need (50%) criteria. 13 ``Westpac Young Technologists Scholarship The Westpac Young Technologists Scholarships are offered to exceptional scholars who want a diverse and exciting career working at the cutting edge of technological innovation. The scholarships aim to address the current lack of gender balance and diversity in technology graduates. Awarded on merit, the scholarships will help broaden the base of students with the ambition to forge a career in technology. Applicants should note that some are only available to undergraduate degree students. ``George Alexander Foundation Scholarships These scholarships have been made available by The George Alexander Foundation. The Foundation was established in 1972 by George Alexander AM to provide grants for public charitable purposes in Australia. Reflecting the founder s special interests, the scholarships offer talented students access and opportunity to fulfil their potential. The scholarships are an important investment in the future of individual young Australians and their ongoing contribution to the broader community. Students offered a George Alexander Foundation Scholarship may undertake any on-campus undergraduate degree at Swinburne. Five scholarships are available. Each scholarship is valued at $7500 per year, for a period of three years. The total value of the scholarship is $22,500. be an Australian citizen be a commencing student studying full-time in an on-campus undergraduate degree at Swinburne in Semester 1, 2016 have completed Year 12 in 2015 (or 2014, and taken a gap year in 2015) achieve a minimum ATAR of demonstrate need to reside away from home in order to undertake study be involved in extracurricular activities that provide evidence of leadership potential. 3 August January 2016 ``Kath Watson Scholarship for Women The Kath Watson Foundation was established to support female students from disadvantaged backgrounds to undertake and/or continue tertiary education and to achieve their full academic potential by reducing the need to work outside of study. Students offered a Kath Watson Scholarship may undertake one of the following courses: a full-time vocation education course: Certificate IV, diploma or advanced diploma a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate degree. The scholarship is valued at $2000 per year for the normal duration of the degree up to a maximum period of five years. be an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident or holder of a permanent humanitarian visa be over 25 years of age be a female commencing or current student studying full-time in a course at Certificate IV level and above at Swinburne in Semester 1, 2016 demonstrate financial need and educational disadvantage. Disadvantage may include: financial difficulty or low income disability or medical condition delay or interruption to career or studies because of family responsibilities or illness relocation from a rural or regional area in order to undertake tertiary study English as a second language identification as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander demonstrate a commitment to study and career aspirations have had an interrupted education, i.e. at least two years away from full-time study. 3 August January

15 ``Rosemary Simpson Scholarship The Rosemary Simpson Scholarship has been established by the Jolimont Foundation to assist Swinburne students from rural and regional areas to undertake and complete a university education and to enable them to achieve their full potential by reducing the need to work outside of study. The scholarship is valued at $7500 per year for the normal duration of the degree for up to a maximum of five years. Eligibility/Selection Criteria be an Australian citizen be a commencing student studying full-time in an on-campus undergraduate degree at Swinburne in Semester 1, 2016, with preference given to Year 12 school leavers have relocated from a rural and regional area in order to study at Swinburne demonstrate financial need and commitment to their studies demonstrate qualities of leadership and/or community participation. 3 August January

18 Scholarships for commencing students continued Residential Scholarships Study and living expenses grants Scholarships are available to current students who are living on campus. There are 10 Residential Scholarships available to students who reside at the Swinburne Residential College or Swinburne Apartments. There are also 10 Residential Scholarships available to students who reside at the Swinburne Place Apartments. The scholarships are designed to assist students in meeting the costs of living away from home. Scholarship recipients receive a reduction of $1000 per semester in their residential fees. Total value of the scholarship is $2000. : be enrolled full-time at Swinburne reside in the Student Residences at the Hawthorn campus for the full academic year i.e. two semesters not be a previous Residential Scholarship recipient. 19 ``Laptop Grants Macbook This grant is available to students who are enrolled in a course where use of Mac computer is a core requirement. This includes courses related to design, film, television; digital media including multimedia and games; and engineering and technology. Recipients will receive a MacBook Pro 15 or 13 Notebook with nylon sleeves up to the value of $2800. Note: Previous recipients are ineligible to apply. ``Laptop Grants Acer Iconia Switch 11 Pro (or equivalent) This grant is available to students who are in need of a laptop to assist with their studies. Recipients will receive an Acer Iconia Switch 11 Pro Laptop (or equivalent) with a case up to the value of $1100. Note: Previous recipients are ineligible to apply. ``ipad Grants This grant is available to students who are in need of an ipad to assist with their studies. Recipients will receive an ipad Air 2 (16GB WiFi) (or equivalent) with a leather cover valued at $600. Note: Previous ipad/tablet recipients are ineligible to apply. ``Travel Assistance Grants Myki Money/Pass Card This grant is available to on-campus students who have a Victorian Public Transport Student Concession Card or a Health Care Card. Recipients will receive a yearly concession Myki Money or Myki Pass card valued at over $600. ``Travel Assistance Grants Petrol Voucher This grant is available to assist on-campus students with travel costs. Together, AFAP and MBF have extended this program to Swinburne by offering two scholarships of $3000 each to assist aviation students in their pursuit of becoming a professional pilot.
