The events marked with an * are offered for both you and your family. Ask Questions! The Advocates are your student hosts, and they want to answer your questions. They ll be easy to find by their Orientation shirts and Ask Me buttons. Orientation Central is open each day of Orientation. It s the information center and serves as the message headquarters if you need to contact anyone attending Orientation. Bring your information packet with you to each event. Where can I ask questions about Financial Aid? If you have questions about loans, grants, or work-study, you can stop by the Financial Aid station in Griz Central. Griz Central is on the 2nd floor of the Lommasson Center and is open from 9:00 a.m.-4;00 p.m. or call Financial Aid at Where can I go to get help with my disability? Disability Services for Students (DSS) assures program access to the University for students with disabilities. They coordinate and provide reasonable accommodations and advocate for an accessible and hospitable learning environment. DSS is located in Lommasson Center 154. They can be reached at or stop by Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. I m a veteran and have questions about my benefits for school. Where do I go? The veteran coordinator is located in the Registrar s Office in the Lommasson Center and is available to provide assistance by calling or stopping by Monday-Friday 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. I have a child and need to find daycare. Where can I go? ASUM Child Care provides daycare services for students families. You can find out more by visiting them in University Center 119 or calling at Where can I find out about buses and carpools? Remember, your advising appointment may occur during your Major meeting, but if not, you must attend your appointment. You must register for a FIG in person, not through CyberBear. FIG registration begins at 1:00 p.m. and you must meet with your advisor and waive or accept your insurance before FIG registration. You ll use your Griz Card everyday during the school year to access your Residence Hall, meal plan, the library, Campus Rec, debit account and many other services. The Griz Card Center will be open every day this week so no need to wait in line! University Center 1st floor 9:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Change Your Major If you want to change your major head upstairs to get your paperwork filled out. Take Care of Health Holds If you have an orange dot on your advising folder, Stop into Craig, Curry Health Center is upstairs in UC 333-today Duniway, Aber or Turner only in the UC! University Center :30 a.m. and 11:30 *Campus Tour Join the Advocates for an informative walking tour of campus. Each tour leaves on the hour from the Grizzly Bear statue at the end of the Oval. The Food Court is a contemporary buffet that offers a variety of choices. The UC Market sells sandwiches from some of the best delis in town. Payment for both is a-la-carte. For incoming students with disabilities creating a course schedule that takes into account the functional limitations of their disability can be a key factor in getting a good start at UM. Disability Services can provide the inside scoop on questions like, How many credits should I attempt per semester?, When should I take courses I have concerns about?, How do I talk to my advisor about my disability? The Disability Services staff will discuss the issues of advising on campus and are happy to answer questions students and parents may have. Please join us. The tour will show the variety of living options available, but you will probably not have a chance to view your own assigned room for the fall. Your families are encouraged to attend. Lommasson Center, Room 269 1:00 p.m.2:00 p.m. *American Indian Welcome Gathering This is a gathering for all new Indian students at UM. Stop by for some information and refreshments. Family members are welcome to attend. Griz Central Conference Room, Lommasson Center 226 2:00 p.m.-2:30 p.m. * Math Placement Scores: You have questions, we have answers... Dr. Dave Patterson, Chair of the Math Department, and Sharon O Hare, Director of the Math Learning Centers, will host a Q&A session for students and parents regarding math placement at The University. Find out: What does a LEVEL 3 placement score mean? Which one of the four math tracks does my major follow? Can I enroll in a course below my placement? Now that I m here on campus, can I still take my placement test? I'm disappointed with my ALEKS placement score - can I re-take the placement test? What can I do to improve my math placement score? We ll go over your options for improving your ALEKS placement score BEFORE starting classes in the fall; there will be time at the end of the session to ask specific questions regarding your placement score and the math requirements for your major. Urey Lecture Hall 12 Wednesday 12:00 Noon Music Theory Assessment If you re majoring in Music or plan to take a music theory course, you should take this one-hour assessment. This will assess your music theory ability and recommends placement in both the 100-level or 200-level theory and aural perception courses. Test results will be posted Thursday. Music Building, Room 105 1:00 p.m. Freshmen Opening Meeting This meeting is a must for any student attending Orientation. Karissa Drye, Orientation Director and the UM Advocates will welcome you to campus and give you directions for success during Orientation. Urey Lecture Hall 2:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. Small Group #1: Meet your Orientation Guide This meeting will be the first time to meet your Advocate Small Group Leader and get to know some of your future classmates. You ll depart from Urey Lecture Hall after the Opening Meeting. 3:30 pm Chemistry Assessment The Department of Chemistry requires all student who intend to enroll in Chemistry to take an assessment. The assessment takes about one hour and a non -programmatic calculator is welcome. Results will be available on Friday morning at Orientation Central. Chemistry Building Room 212 4:00 p.m.-5:30 p.m. Continuous Testing Foreign Language Assessment If you plan to take a course in French, German, or Spanish, take this assessment to determine what level of foreign language is appropriate. The assessment is a computerized exam, which is graded immediately. You can take it at any point during this time. It takes about 30 minutes with the last exam starting at 5:00 p.m. Liberal Arts Building, Room 104 If you haven t taken the Math Assessment online There are public computer labs open for you to access throughout your time here at UM. Check out the Mansfield Library or the UC lab for internet access! Head to 9

10 Wednesday 4:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. *Sample a Class If you don t plan to take the assessments, attend a Sample Class that we are offering for your education and enjoyment. Please see the program description and locations on the flyer in your information packet. 4:30 p.m. Writing Assessment Challenge Opportunity If you aren t happy with your English placement based on your SAT/ACT/MUS test scores this is your chance to challenge the placement. Students who have not taken the SAT/ACT/MUS tests must take this test to place into the appropriate English course. Urey Lecture Hall 5:15 p.m. *Campus Tour Departs from the Grizzly Bear at the end of the Oval 5:30 p.m.-6:45 p.m. *Dinner at the Food Zoo Come mingle with other students and parents at dinner. The Food Zoo is located in the Lommasson Center. This all-you-care-to-eat buffet style restaurant is the main dining room for resident students.
