2 Installation Instructions The Infra-red Monitor Motion Detector from Clipsal provides high performance detection at an affordable price. The excellent 360 degree coverage provided by the detector is ideally suited for ceiling mount applications. Ceiling Mounted Detectors are the perfect solution for crowded rooms where objects may otherwise block the view of standard wall mounted detectors. Ceiling Mounted Detectors are also highly suited for stairwells or for pinpoint high security monitoring. The detector is compact attractive and very easy to install. It is designed for indoor mounting on either a ceiling or where necessary on a wall. The detector is ideal for commercial, retail, office and residential applications. Quality components and manufacturing techniques, including 100% computer testing will ensure that the detector provides years of trouble free operation. Mounting Location The detector should be mounted on a fi rm section of the ceiling at a height of between two meters and fi ve meters and well away (at least two meters) from electrical lighting such as neon or fl uorescent lights. Cables for the detector should be kept well away from electrical wires. Select the mounting position for optimum coverage, noting that the coverage provided by the detector is slightly elliptical. The elliptical pattern can be identified by the LED position and the keyhole on the circuit board (see lens array drawing). It is advisable with all PIR detectors not to install them pointing at direct sunlight, heating or cooling sources and avoid high humidity locations which may cause condensation on the lens.

3 Mounting Remove Replace Screw Keyhole E1 Cable DO NOT TOUCH THE PYRO DETECTOR WITH YOUR FINGERS Screw Remove the cover of the detector by turning the cover in an anti-clockwise direction Locate the base on the ceiling and screw the base in position passing the cable through the cable entry hole. Note the slightly elliptical pattern provided by the detector, the axis of the ellipse can be identifi ed by the LED and the keyhole on the circuit board with the keyhole pointing through the longest portion of the ellipse regardless of the lid orientation (see lens array drawing) Screw the base to the ceiling at the required position passing the wire through the cable entry hole If the circuit board was removed replace the circuit board Finally, use the silicon gel to seal any holes to prevent air draughts and insects entering the detector, which may cause false alarms. Wiring Connect a regulated d.c. power source to the terminals marked +12V and 0V observing correct polarity Connect your zone sensing from your control panel to the terminals marked ALARM N/C. Note these are normally closed relay contacts, which open when the detector alarms If you require a cover tamper, connect to the terminals marked TAMPER N/C. 4 Testing Set the range and pulse links according to application (see options settings), the factory settings are low range, 1-2 pulse count (high sensitivity), LED ON Replace the cover, this is the reverse process of removal. The cover may be fi tted in any three positions without affecting the coverage pattern Apply power and wait for the LED to extinguish (approximately 20 seconds) Conduct a walk by slowly walking across the protected area and observing the LED. An alarm should occur at a maximum of 3 to 4 normal walking steps Stop and wait for the alarm LED to extinguish before you continue walk testing, continuous motion in the protected area will keep the alarm LED on constantly Observing the LED for pre-alarm pulses will take the guesswork out of detection coverage. A short LED pulse indicates detection of infra-red, the alarm point is determined by the pulse link setting LK2. Adjust your range and pulse links to suit your installation, always use the lowest range and highest pulse count which will guarantee good coverage, this will help to minimise the possibility of false alarms. Options Alarm LED LK3 The alarm LED has a dual function: Pre-alarm indication (short flash) Alarm indication (on for five seconds). The LED may be disabled by removing the LED link. Pulse Count LK2 At times it may be unavoidable to install the detector in a diffi cult environment. Pulse count is a means of adjusting the number of pulses received before an alarm is generated. In a normal environment with the jumper LK2 on, one or two pulses should cause an alarm. In harsher environments, remove the jumper LK2 and three to four pulses will cause an alarm. Range LK1 The range link is a means of setting the level of infra-red required to generate a pulse from the detector, which in turn directly affects the detector sensitivity. The correct setting will depend upon the size of the area to protect. With the range link on the detector will detect to the full radius of x 4m. With the range link removed, the detector will detect a radius of approximately 4m x 2.5m. The range link should be set to the lowest setting, which will still provide good coverage. Remember to always test after changing links. 4 of 8

6 Two-Year Warranty The 5420/360 Motion Sensor carries a two-year warranty against manufacturing defects. Warranty Statement 1) The benefits conferred herein are in addition to, and in no way shall be deemed to derogate; either expressly or by implication, any or all other rights and remedies in respect to Clipsal Integrated Systems product, which the consumer has under the Commonwealth Trade Practices Act or any other similar State or Territory Laws. 2) The warrantor is Clipsal Australia Pty Ltd. with registered offices in all Australian States. 3) This Clipsal Integrated Systems product is guaranteed against faulty workmanship and materials for a period of two (2) years from the date of installation. 4) Clipsal Australia Pty Ltd reserves the right, at its discretion, to either repair free of parts and labour charges, replace or offer refund in respect to any article found to be faulty due to materials, parts or workmanship. 5) This warranty is expressly subject to the Clipsal Integrated Systems product being installed, wired, tested, operated and used in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. 6) All costs of a claim shall be met by Clipsal Australia Pty Ltd, however should the product that is the subject of the claim be found to be in good working order, all such costs shall be met by the claimant. 7) When making a claim, the consumer shall forward the Clipsal Integrated Systems product to the nearest office of Clipsal Australia Pty Ltd with adequate particulars of the defect within 28 days of the fault occurring. The product should be returned securely packed, complete with details of the date and place of purchase, description of load, and circumstances of malfunction.
