1 AMM PARKING AND MOORING - GENERAL 1. General Information on parking and mooring the aircraft in normal conditions is given in the following sections: - Parking (Refer to , pb201.) - Mooring (Refer to , pb201.) Page 1
2 AMM PARKING (NORMAL) - DESCRIPTION & OPERATION 1. General This section contains information about parking the aircraft on prepared surfaces only. Parking on unprepared surfaces will be at the operator's discretion. 2. Notes for guidance A. If there is no wind, or the wind is no stronger than 11 knots the aircraft can be parked without regard to wind direction; if stronger, then the aircraft should be headed into the wind. If the wind is stronger than 30 knots or gusty then the aircraft should be hangared or moored (Refer to , pb201.). B. The aircraft nose wheel must be centred. C. The main landing gear wheels must be chocked fore and aft. D. The landing gear ground locks must be fitted. E. Flight controls gust locks must be engaged. F. The parking brake must be applied. Ensure that there is 2000 psi (min.) hydraulic pressure in the EMERGENCY SYSTEM. G. Ensure that the flaps are retracted. H. Blanking plugs should be fitted to prevent damage from dust, debris, nesting birds, snow etc. I. If the aircraft is to be left unattended, the doors should be secured Page 1
3 AMM PARKING (NORMAL) - MAINTENANCE PRACTICES 1. General This section gives detailed procedures for parking the aircraft. 2. Equipment Tool No. T T T T T T T T T Description Chock, Wheel Cover, Canopy Cover, Engine Cover, Pitot head Cover, Exhaust stub Bung, engine air intake Bung, oil cooler intake Locking pin, landing gear ground, main Locking pin, landing gear ground nose 3. Park the aircraft A. Select and clear the parking area. If mooring is required ensure that facilities (anchors) are available. B. Position the aircraft and centralie the nose wheel. C. Fit the landing gear ground lock pins T and T (Refer to Figure 201.). D. Chock the main landing gear wheels fore and aft using T E. Check that the flight controls gust locks are engaged. F. Select emergency brake lever to EMERGENCY and apply the parking brake. Ensure that there is 2000 psi (min.) hydraulic pressure in the EMERGENCY SYSTEM. Arrange for a periodic check to be made on the pressure and, if low, re-pressurie (Refer to , pb301.). CAUTION: WAIT UNTIL THE BRAKES HAVE COOLED TO APPROX. AMBIENT TEMPERATURE BEFORE APPLYING THE PARKING BRAKE. DAMAGE CAN BE CAUSED BY HEAT TRANSFERENCE. NOTE: (1) For extended parking, pressure should be restored every 24 hours. (2) Excessive leak rates should not be permitted indefinitely. Pressure decay from 3000 to 2000 psi in less than 24 hours requires maintenance attention Page 201

8 AMM PRESERVATION OF AIRCRAFT IN STORAGE 1. General This section details recommended procedures for long term parking/storage and attendant maintenance activity appropriate to out-of-service period. the requirements for normal parking () should be met unless incompatible with subsequently presented actions. Refer to , pb201. Aircraft parked in the open should be moored. Refer to , pb201. NOTE: (1) For any period of storage, undertake normal good housekeeping with respect to cleanliness within the passenger, crew, baggage and toilet compartments. Drain freeables in winter. 2. Storage actions (2) Reference should be made to Chap. 72 of Engine Maintenance Manual, where details of engine preservation actions, as determined by anticipated period of inactivity, are presented. A. Storage period up to 28 days: (1) Fit external covers to engine air intakes, exhausts and pitot heads. (2) Disconnect batteries; these and all equipment (including avionics) may remain in the aircraft. (3) When the aircraft is parked in the open, close/seal all openings through which birds or vermin could enter (Refer to para 4.). (4) Arrange for maintenance of tyre pressures. B. Storage for periods in excess of 29 days: Either of methods (1) or (2) which follow should be adopted. NOTE: Method (2) calls for periodic engine ground runs and flights. Method (1): (1) Comply with preceding para Refer to A., activities (1), (3) and (4). (2) Arrange for maintenance of landing gear shock strut pressures. (3) Remove aircraft batteries. (4) Remove avionic and electrical equipment listed in para.refer to 5. and place in recognised storage facilities Page 1
9 SD3-60 AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE MANUAL (5) Apply a coating of general purpose grease Spec. MIL-G-23827A or equivalent to:- (a) aileron trim and flap control cables housed within trailing edge of wing. (b) Rudder and elevator trim cables, where housed within stabiliers. (c) exposed moving parts of controls to flaps and control surfaces. (d) landing gear downlock mechanisms and the polished sliding member of shock struts. (6) Add BIOBOR-JF at a rate of 135 parts per million to fuel remaining in aircraft tanks. NOTE: (1) After treatment, fuel may remain in the tanks or be drained off 48 hours after introduction of additive. (2) BIOBOR-JF may be obtained from US Borax & Chemical Corporation, 3075 Wilshire Boulevard, LA, USA, and should be used in accordance with their Serv. Bull. No (7) Discharge the system, emergency landing gear and emergency brake accumulators (not flap accumulator). Refer to , pb301. Then release gas pressure from all accumulators and hydraulic reservoir. (8) Remove rain repellent canister from flight compartment. (9) Seal ditching hatch with waterproof tape. (10) Lubricate door hinges and dust seals with powered talc before closing. Method (2): (11) Comply with preceding para A., activities (1) and (4). (12) Arrange for maintenance of landing gear shock strut pressures. (13) Apply a coating of general purpose grease Spec. MIL-G-23827A or equivalent to controls referenced in Method (1)(e)-(i) thru (iv) except landing gear downlock mechanisms. (14) Ground run engines and taxy aircraft each 7 days. Exercise systems. (15) Fly the aircraft each 30 days. NOTE: As activity Para A (3) is waived for method (2), the aircraft will require thorough checking for birds nests, vermin or moisture, prior to return to service (or at 3 month intervals), whichever comes first Page 2
10 3. Maintenance during storage A. 28 day intervals: (1) Rotate landing gear wheels, one quarter turn. (2) Open fuel drains and drain off condensation. B. 6 month intervals: To minimie deterioration and delay in return-to-service, the following procedure should be adopted:- NOTE: Where the aircraft has been stored under conditions outlined in para 2.B., method (2), only subsequent actions (17), (18) and (19) need apply. (1) Provide external electrical power. Refer to , pb301. (2) Raise aircraft on jacks. Refer to , pb201. (3) Charge hydraulic reservoir and accumulators. Refer to , pb301. (4) Ensure: (a) Landing gear ground locking pins are removed. (b) Steering is selected off. (c) Parking brake selected off. (d) Emergency brakes selected off. (e) Emergency landing gear selected off (reset selector). (f) Flaps fully retracted. (5) Connect hydraulic power rig to PRESSURE and RETURN connectors on hydraulic servicing panel and raise system pressure to psi (6) Select landing gear `up-down' six times, finishing in down position. Replace ground locking pins. (7) Lower aircraft to ground. Remove jacks. (8) Operate nosewheel steering approximately 15 'left-right', finishing centred. (9) Operate wheel brakes on normal supply, six times; check that on each application, the NORMAL WHEEL BRAKES gauges (panel 7P) read psi (10) Operat flaps throughout range, six times. Finish fully retracted Page 3
11 SD3-60 AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE MANUAL (11) Select hydraulic rig `off' and disconnect. (12) Select emergency brakes. Operate brakes until 'fall-off' on EMERGENCY WHEELBRAKES gauge (panel 7P) stabilies i.e. related accumulator exhausted. (13) Pull L/GEAR DOWN-EMERGENCY control lever (flight compartment roof console) to down position. When 'fall off' on EMERGENCY LANDING GEAR gauge on panel 7P stabilies (related accumulator exhausted), perform restoration drill. Refer to , pb201. (14) Exhaust gas pressure from accumulators and reservoir. (15) Disengage gust locks and operate flight and trim controls full travel six times; re-engage gust locks. (16) Disconnect electrical power. (17) Check for effectiveness of grease applied prior to storage - para 2.B. (1) (e) refers; regrease as necessary. (18) Clean the aircraft externally and inspect for loss of paint and for corrosion. Treat any defective areas with a temporary protective or prime and repaint where practical. (19) Record date and details of inspection in aircraft log book. 4. Sealing of apertures If demanded by aircraft storage actions (para 2.), close and seal the following ventilation, drainage and control system entries, using industrial grade polythene and waterproof adhesive tape: Air conditioning intakes and exits Fuel spill outlets Air conditioning exits Elevator control Elevator trim control Static vents Flap support beams Flap control rods Aileron controls Aileron trim controls Fuel tank vents Rudder trim controls Alternator inlets and outlets (Fwd fuselage - top) (Each side of tank fairings) (Rear fuselage - underside) (Rear fuselage - underside) (Rear fuselage - underside) (Fwd fuselage - each side) (Wing trailing edge) (Wing trailing edge) (Wing trailing edge) (Wing trailing edge) (Wing underside - inboard) (Vertical stabiliers) (Nacelle) Page 4

Avionics - Removal for storage If demanded by aircraft storage actions (para 2.), remove and suitably store the following: - Avionic boxes installed in the avionics bays - Passenger address amplifier - rear luggage bay - Tape player - cloak compartment - Radar altimeter transceiver - under passenger compartment floor - Radar antenna and transceiver from nose cone - Avionic controllers - flight compartment - Radar indicator - flight compartment - DME indicator - flight compartment - Flight director computer controller - flight compartment - Vertical gyro - center wing Page 5
13 AMM MOORING (NORMAL) - DESCRIPTION & OPERATION 1. General This section contains information about mooring the aircraft at prepared locations only Mooring at unprepared locations or using techniques not quoted will be at the operator's discretion. 2. Recommended conditions The aircraft should be adequately moored into the wind during all prolonged periods of outdoor parking and/or periods of existing or forecast high winds. The aircraft should be moored or hangered if the wind is stronger than 30 knots or gusty. If it is not possible to park within 45 of the wind direction, or if the aircraft is parked on an icecovered apron, mooring should be considered for winds stronger than 25 knots Page 1
