It is the fourth of 16 scheduled meetings between the clubs in Oklahoma City leads the season-series, 2-1. The two clubs split the 2012 series, 8-8. WOCKA WOCKA: Right-handed pitcher Michael Wacha makes his Triple-A debut for the Redbirds this afternoon. Since being drafted 19th overall out of Texas A&M in 2012, the 6-foot-6 right-hander skyrocketed through the Cardinals organization across three levels while recording a miniscule 0.86 ERA with 40 strikeout in 21.0 innings. Wacha enters 2013 as the Cardinals 6th-best prospect and #76 overall prospect in the minors by Baseball America. REDHAWKS TIES: Oklahoma City RedHawks reliever C.J. (Chuckie) Fick pitched for the Redbirds from Astros Minor League Pitching Coordinator Dyar Miller served as the Redbirds pitching coach from PROSPECTING: Three of the top six members of Baseball America s Top 10 St. Louis Cardinals prospects open the year in Memphis and make their Triple-A debut: outfielder Oscar Taveras (#1), second baseman Kolten Wong (#5), and right-handed pitcher Michael Wacha (#6). FREESE RETURNS ON REHAB: St. Louis Cardinals third baseman David Freese joins the Redbirds as part of an injury rehabilitation assignment for a lower back strain. Freese has been sidelined after tumbling into a camera well while trying to make a catch on March 4 at Spring Training. He last appeared in a Grapefruit League game on March 22. The 2011 World Series MVP has played 191 games in a Redbirds uniform while picking up a PCL Championship in Freese hit.303 (.205-for-677) with 36 home runs and 129 RBIs over that span ( , 11). In two rehab games with Memphis (third base and designated hitter), Freese is hitting.143 (1-for-7) with a double, two RBIs, one walk, and one strikeout. AND THE OSCAR GOES TO: Outfielder Oscar Taveras makes his Triple-A debut this season and looks to collect his third consecutive batting title. The 20-year-old paced the Cardinals entire system in hits (153), home runs (23), doubles (37), extra-base hits (67), RBIs (94), and slugging percentage (.572) last season, en route to winning the Texas League Championship, his third league title in three pro seasons. Additional recent accolades for the Cardinals Minor League Player of the Year include being recognized as a Texas League Mid-Season and Post-Season All-Star, Topps Double-A All-Star, and Baseball America Minor League All-Star. THE WONG SHOW: St. Louis #5 prospect and second baseman Kolten Wong makes his Triple-A debut this season. The 22-year-old in one of two Redbirds to collect a hit in their first three games in 2013 (Brock Peterson). Last season, Wong batted.287 with nine home runs, 52 RBIs, and 21 stolen bases in 126 games for Double-A Springfield while being named to the Texas League Mid-Season and Post-Season All- Star squads. CHAMBERS GETTING ON BASE: Outfielder Adron Chambers is hitting.167 (1-for-6) through the first three games, but has also reached base in six more occasions via five walks and a hit-by pitch for a.583 on-base percentage. His five walks are tied for second-most in the PCL behind Las Vegas Travis d Arnaud (6). AT THE HELM: Ron Pop Warner returns to Memphis for his second season as Redbirds manager in The 44-year-old Warner, who has spent every year since 2000 in the Cardinals organization and enters his 10th as a field manager, 14th as a coach, has compiled a record (.498) as a minor league manager. Pop was originally drafted by the Cardinals in the 17th round of the 1991 draft and spent nine years playing in the Cardinals farm system prior to entering the managerial ranks. He played for the Redbirds at Tim McCarver Stadium from and was recognized as the first Redbirds player selected as a Pacific Coast League All-Star in GERDY: Pithcing coach Bryan Eversgerd, who pitched for parts of four seasons in the Major Leagues during a 12-year pro playing career, serves his first year as a pitching coach with Memphis after spending four of the previous five seasons in the same capacity for the Double-A Springfield Cardinals. The 2012 George Kissell Award winner replaces Blaise Ilsley, who was recently promoted to a position as St. Louis bullpen coach.
