Attending UM and playing baseball wearing the orange and green there is nothing like it. When you wear those colors and play for that baseball team, you represent the U on and off the field. Marc Mestre, M.D. ( ) Pediatric Hospitalist, Miami Children s Hospital (Miami, Fla.) My experience playing baseball at the University of Miami, and competing at the level we competed at during the time, I will remember for the rest of my life. It not only helped me on the field, but also later in the field of medicine. The University of Miami means everything to me, and I have great pride in being a Hurricane. Doug Shields ( ) Bill Shields Roofing Company Playing baseball at the University of Miami was incredible. I can t think of anything else to describe the family atmosphere and what it felt like being a part of that program and tradition. My mother was an educator. So, when I decided to go to a school with as much of an academic tradition, as well as athletic tradition, as the University of Miami, she was thrilled. Neal Heaton, Pat Burrell, Rick Raether, Bobby Hill, Cesar Carillo, Jon Jay and Yonder Alonso are the only twotime All-Americans in the program s history while Burrell actually earned All- America honors three-times. 5 Miami has made 23 trips to Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Neb., for the College World Series, where UM has claimed four national titles Luke DeBold on the mound for the Canes The 2008 Hurricanes won the program s first Atlantic Coast Conference title Legendary coach Ron Fraser MIAMI BASEBALL Only The Best - THE POSTSEASON EXPERIENCE Miami has built a rich college baseball tradition as the Hurricanes have become synonymous when it comes to the College World Series. Miami advanced to an NCAA Record 38th consecutive postseason regional in UM has won 48 games in its 23 trips to Rosenblatt Stadium for the College World Series. Miami advanced to its first NCAA Regional in 1971 before rattling off the 38 straight appearances from Overall, Miami has 39 NCAA Regional appearances. UM has hosted 22 NCAA Regionals at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field and five NCAA Super Regionals. Miami is overall at home as a regional and super regional host, which includes a 10-1 mark as a super regional host. He compiled a 1, (.747) record during that time and led UM to the national championship in 1982 and He left the coaching ranks as the third-winningest coach of all time. His UM teams made an NCAA record 20 consecutive postseason appearances - a record that still is going at 38 straight appearances. Fraser was a 26-time Coach of the Year and a member of 10 halls of fame. He coached his last game for the Hurricanes at the College World Series in UM retired his No. 1 jersey on April 24, UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI
