5 INTRODUCTION Overview Introduction The Human Resources product is composed of two applications, HR Administration and HR Maintenance. Developed by Jenzabar, Inc., the applications rely on client/server architecture. Purpose of This Guide This guide serves as a reference guide for installing the Jenzabar Human Resources product. The information in this guide enables you to install the Human Resources files on a PC. Intended Audience This guide is for use by the system users in your institution s computer center. System users include the Jenzabar coordinator, Jenzabar system administrator, and programmer/analysts. Other Human Resources Documentation During the installation of Human Resources, you may want to refer to Preparing Windows PCs Installation Guide and CX ODBC Driver Installation Guide to ensure your PC is configured correctly and your ODBC driver setup is complete. Complete field descriptions and procedures for using Human Resources are included in online help files that you use interactively with the product. Installing HR 1 Introduction

7 GETTING STARTED Overview Introduction The following tasks provide important information you need to know before you begin to install Human Resources. Tasks Prior to Installation You need to accomplish the following general tasks at your institution before you install Human Resources: Update your Windows installation with the appropriate Microsoft service packs. See the document titled Preparing Windows PCs for Installation (file name: PCPrep) for current requirements. Install the Informix Client SDK (Version 2.5) Informix ODBC driver (Version 3.32 or greater) Install the Jenzabar ODBC driver (Version 1.55) as instructed in CX ODBC Driver Installation Guide. Remove any existing Human Resources applications you may have already installed on your PC. Without exiting Windows, close any applications you may have open. The Human Resources setup program cannot install system files or modify shared files if they are already in use. This includes any toolbars, such as the Microsoft Office Toolbar or the volume control icon in the bottom right corner of your screen. Exiting the Setup Program Before Completion At almost any point throughout the installation, you have the option of continuing or canceling. If you select Cancel, the following window appears: Click Yes to stop the HR installation. Uninstalling Human Resources If you cancel or exit the setup program after the initialization files are copied, the Human Resources application removal utility will begin automatically. If you complete the installation, but later decide to remove the application, use the Add/Remove Programs applet from the Windows Control Panel. CAUTION: During the removal of the application, you will be prompted before a shared resource or file is removed. Removing a shared file may have unpredictable results in other applications that may use these files. If you are unsure whether a file is essential, it is recommended that you select No or Keep at such prompts to allow the shared resource to be retained. Installing HR 3 Getting Started

8 Uninstalling Human Resources Version 2.2 If you have already installed Human Resources Version 2.2 and then launch the setuphr.exe program again, the installation process will detect that you already have the current version of the software on your computer. It will therefore prompt you to remove the existing Version 2.2. software from your PC before continuing with the installation. If you confirm you want to remove the existing software, the following window appears. When you click OK, the remove process launches, and the following window appears when the removal of Human Resources Version 2.2 is complete. You must then launch setuphr.exe again to install Human Resources Version 2.2 on the PC. Getting Started 4 Installing HR

9 Installing Human Resources on a PC Downloading the Files through FTP The following procedures explain how to download files from the Unix server through FTP. Since each client site may have its own method for transferring files through FTP, the following information is provided as a general guide. How to Use FTP for Setup File Installation The following FTP process transfers a self-extracting archive from the Unix system to an individual PC. For illustrative purposes, the archive name is Smo12634.exe, and it is transferred to the individual user's c: drive. Follow these steps to download the file: 1. At an MS-DOS prompt, create a new directory for the setup files (e.g., c:\smo12634). 2. Change directories to the new directory you just created. 3. At the prompt, enter ftp <hostname>. 4. Enter your username and password as prompted. 5. Enter binary at the prompt to change to binary mode. 6. Enter cd <absolute path to the HR directory> at the prompt. If you have followed all the instructions in the README for SMO 12634, this path is $CARSPATH/software/CARS/HR. 7. Enter ls to see the list of files you are going to transfer. 8. Enter get setuphr.exe to transfer the archive. 9. When the system finishes transferring the archive, enter bye to exit FTP. How to Install on a PC Follow these steps to install Human Resources on an end user s PC using the Windows Run feature. This installation occurs in two or three steps (two steps for Windows 98/NT machines, and three steps for Windows 95 machines); the final step is the actual installation of Jenzabar s HR applications, while the preliminary step(s) ensure the necessary Microsoft files are in place. Notes: If you are reinstalling Human Resources, use the Add/Remove Programs applet from the Windows Control Panel to remove the existing version of the application first. This installation process causes your system to reboot one or two times (depending on whether you are installing on a Windows 95 or on a Windows 98/NT machine. You must close all applications before you begin the installation, or you will lose any unsaved work in the unclosed applications. 1. Start Windows. 2. Close any applications that are open (such as those that are opened by your Start Menu). This includes any toolbars that may be on your desktop, such as the Microsoft Office Toolbar. 3. Click Start from the Taskbar. 4. Click Run. The Run box appears. Installing HR 5 PC Installation

10 5. Enter the path for the Human Resources Setup program in the Open field in the Run box, as shown for SMO in the above example. Note: If using the network installation, run setuphr.exe in the directory containing the installation files. 6. Click OK to continue. HR Setup (setuphr.exe) begins with a Welcome screen, as in the following example. Note that the name of the each application (e.g., HR Administration) is followed by a version number (2.2) as well as a build number (.1074). Your build numbers may differ from the examples shown here. 7. See the section Exiting the Setup Program Before Completion if you want to exit the program at this point. 8. Click Continue. The installation process opens the necessary files, displaying the progress on the following Unpacking popup window. PC Installation 6 Installing HR

11 9. When the progress bar completes, the following popup dialog box appears. 10. Allow the progress bar on the above InstallShield Wizard popup dialog box to complete. The following InstallShield Wizard popup dialog box appears. 11. To continue installing the application, click Next on the dialog box. The InstallShield program displays the following dialog box. You can use the Browse command to select a different destination folder. Note that all the components you are copying to the PC will reside in this destination. Installing HR 7 PC Installation

12 12. Set the destination as desired or accept the default location, and then click Next. The following dialog box appears. PC Installation 8 Installing HR

13 Note: This dialog box enables you to choose several different installation and file copying options. Note the following as you decide how to respond to the prompts on this dialog box: As you highlight different items in the list of components, the Description box to the right of the list changes to provide you with an explanation of each component. When you place a checkmark in the box for HR Program Files (the default) and/or ODBC Test Tool, the remaining InstallShield processes will actually install these components on the PC. When you place a checkmark in the box for Jenzabar ODBC and/or Informix ODBC, the InstallShield processes copy the installation program only; it does not actually perform the installation. You must then access the ODBC installation programs separately (after the HR installation is complete) to perform the installation yourself. The Change button, used if the software application contains subcomponents, is not active for the Human Resources installation. 13. Complete the dialog box as desired, and then click Next. The InstallShield program displays the following dialog box: 14. As instructed by the prompt above the Program Folders field, accept the default name for the folder in which HR software icons will be stored, enter a new unique name, or select an existing program folder. When the desired folder name appears in the Program Folders field, click Next. The InstallShield program displays the following dialog box, which shows the program's progress in completing the installation process. Installing HR 9 PC Installation

14 15. Allow the progress bar to complete. When the installation is finished, the following prompt appears: 16. Click Yes to place the icons on your monitor screen, or No if you would prefer to launch HR from the Start/Programs menu. The following screen appears, indicating the installation is complete. 15 17. Click Finish to remove the InstallShield wizard dialog box from your screen and to conclude the HR installation process. Note: Depending on the version of Windows you are running on the PC, the following dialog box may appear instead of the one above. If you see the following box, make the selection to have the InstallShield cause a reboot immediately, or plan to restart the computer yourself later. Regardless of which choice you make, click Finish to conclude the process. If you decided to have the system reboot immediately, your PC will shut down and come back up right away. Connecting for the First Time When you run Human Resources, the application will load and display the HR Login dialog box. If you have installed the Informix ODBC driver (CLI), the Service Name field will have a dropdown list of all the databases you can access. Select the database, then enter your login name and the password you use to access the selected database, then click on OK. On subsequent startups, Human Resources will automatically default to the database to which you were connected during the previous session. Note: To use either HR application (Administration or Maintenance), you must also install the Jenzabar CX ODBC driver to run the application servers. This ODBC driver is not visible or accessible to the HR end user. The name for this version of the Jenzabar CX ODBC driver must be the same as the database name selected in the Service Name field, with the letters APS appended to the end (e.g., Devi7CLIAPS).
