2 Goals: Determine if the Get a Grip engineering unit had an impact on the mathematics and science attitudes of middle school students Determine if the afterschool engineering mentoring program for girls had an effect on (1) participant girls attitudes towards mathematics and science, and engineering, (2) participant girls mathematics content knowledge, and (3) participant girls interest in the STEM careers Determine if the engineering summer camp had an effect on participants attitudes and interest in STEM careers. My role in the project Quantitative Data Analysis Internal Consistency, T-Tests, ANOVA, Non-Parametric Analysis on non-normally distributed data Report the findings to the interdisciplinary research group and prepare reports for participating school district. Provide feedback and suggestions to the research team regarding future research Review of the research Manage research team s Share Point site Write up the results for dissemination Building Bridges Between University Faculty and Novice Mathematics Teachers (December 2008-May 2009) Goals Determine the needs of novice mathematics teachers Determine if a combination of face to face and development of a PLC will be an effective support system for novice teachers Assess the effectiveness of helping novice teachers to become more reflective teachers and their ability to incorporate inquiry based mathematics lessons My role in the project Facilitator (face to face and online) Data Collection and analysis (Observations, Field Notes, and survey research) Lab Earth 2 Research Project, University of Nebraska, Lincoln (June 2008 August 2008) Goals Determine if the Lab Earth 2 online course had an impact on science teachers attitudes, self efficacy, and content knowledge of Earth Science. My role in the project (Assist in the evaluation of the project) Data Analysis Non-Parametric Analysis (small sample size) Write the quantitative data analysis up for dissemination Review of the current research Concept Mapping Study (Dr. Julie Thomas) Goals Determine if a one-to-one field experience with a child could have an impact on prospective elementary teachers
