10 10 COMMUNITY-BASED RESEARCH PROJECTS Refugee Needs Assessment Community Partner: Department of Workforce Services SW 4160, Spring 2014 Project Description: taught course sequence of undergraduate research methods (4100) followed by community practice (4160), partnered with departmental faculty and the Department of Workforce Services to conduct a statewide needs assessment regarding the educational and employment needs of Utah s refugee population, trained students to conduct interviews, oversaw phase I of the needs assessment project which involved interviewing human service providers both in and outside Utah regarding their perceptions of refugee educational and employment needs and challenges, trained students in analyzing qualitative data, and facilitated opportunity for students to present their findings to larger project team. Fair Housing General Public Knowledge Survey Community Partner: Utah Labor Commission, Division of Fair Housing SW 4160, Anticipated Spring 2015 Project Description: In partnership with Utah s Fair Housing Division, undergraduate Social Work students from Utah State University will engage in a CBR project focused on assessing the knowledge of fair housing law among Utah s general public, human service providers, community and religious leaders, and elected officials.
