2 Abstract: The thesis unfolds the teaching of the Catholic Church on the anthropological foundations of marriage in the light of the spiritual tradition of the Christian East. The methodological basis of the thesis is the study of the liturgical texts and symbols of the Byzantine rite, especially of the rite of the sacrament of marriage, the works of the Eastern Fathers and the magisterial documents of the Catholic Church. It is a theological treatise, which employs the liturgy as a source. In the light of the truth that what the Church prays is what she believes (lex orandi, lex credendi), the thesis considers the anthropological foundations of marriage spirituality expressed in the prayers and symbols of the byzantine rite of marriage and explored by the teachings of the Eastern Fathers.
