2 CCSD and NSHE The Clark County School District has a long history of successful partnerships with the Nevada System of Higher Education.

3 CCSD and CSN This presentation will highlight a few of the ways we partner with the College of Southern Nevada.

5 History of Dual Credit Jumpstart program started in CCSD in Partnership with Clark County, Nye County, and Lincoln County School Districts Juniors and seniors are eligible to earn college and high school credit simultaneously

8 Most Common Dual Credit Courses Offered English 100 English 101 English 102 Math 096 Math 126 History 101 History 102 Both core and elective courses are offered to students.

9 Goals and Vision Expand the number of high schools that offer dual credit on campus Increase the number of students taking dual credit courses Increase number and variety of courses taken Supports transition to college: Students are better prepared for college because they have been exposed to college expectations and workload.

10 FOOTHILL HIGH SCHOOL Reverse Dual Credit Partnership with CSN: Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC)

11 Foothill HS HVAC Program Aging facility at South East Career and Technology Academy HVAC program was moved to Foothill HS at the beginning of CSN, Henderson campus had a new state of the art HVAC facility that was not utilized during the day time hours HVAC program was an articulated dual credit program

12 Foothill HS HVAC Program February 2012, HVAC teacher retired FHS was unable to find a replacement/business and Industry License Began discussions with CSN to find solutions to help maintain the only HVAC program in the school district.

13 Foothill HS HVAC Program school year: Began a Reverse Dual credit program for HVAC Students are enrolled as CSN students Follow CSN academic calendar Course is taught by a CSN teacher at the CSN campus Upon completion of the CSN course, the zoned high school issues the articulated HS credit

17 Foothill HS HVAC Program Without this program I probably wouldn't be graduating high school on June 11th. It has inspired me to continue on with my education, and I now have career goals. I already have companies seeking me out for an apprenticeship. I plan on finishing my associate s degree by fall of 2015 in the HVAC field. 23 Successes Average credits earned per student: 40 Students earning AA degrees: In 2005 when Dennis Birr first became principal, 2 students earned AAs. In 2012, 15; 2013, 18; 2014, 12. Total credits earned: Approximately 8000 credits/year 500 applicants for 200 seats
