Included in this development are systems of linear equations and inequalities; linear, quadratic, exponential and logarithmic functions; absolute value equations; radicals; conic sections. Textbook Blitzer, Robert. College Algebra Essentials. Upper Saddle River, NJ: Pearson Education, This textbook is embedded in the online MyMathLab learning system described below. You may also to contact the SEU bookstore ( ) to have a hard copy textbook shipped to you at no additional charge. Prerequisites and Credit Hours Enrolled in Challenge II, III, or IV. Completion of high school Algebra II with a B or higher; standardized scores of 490 or above on SAT, or 23 or above on ACT; competent performance on placement assessment (available from CC). Student must have demonstrated maturity to be self-directed and capable of completing online practice problems and homework in preparation for graded exams. The completion of MATH 1213 at Southeastern University will earn 3 credit hours. Course Evaluator Jeremy M. Organize mathematical concepts into orderly systems and use both computational and noncomputational methods as needed to solve problems. 2. Interpret information displayed graphically. 3. Solve real-world problems using a variety of techniques and strategies. 4. Analyze the graphs of linear, absolute value, quadratic, rational, radical, exponential and logarithmic functions. 5. Perform operations or functions 6. Simplify expressions involving complex numbers, logarithms and radicals. 7. Solve equations/inequalities involving linear, quadratic, absolute value, rational, radical, exponential and logarithmic expressions. 8. Solve systems of equation in two and three variables.

2 MyMathLab Learning System MyMathLab is an online interactive and educational system designed by Pearson Education to accompany its published math textbooks. Southeastern University has been using MyMathLab for most of its face-to-face and online math courses for several years. Because MyMathLab embeds tutorials, practice exercises, multimedia learning aids and other resources, students build the confidence they need to perform well on graded assignments and examinations. Students can practice problems as much as they need to gain mastery. MyMathLab includes several learning aids and automated feedback. Based on SEU student assessment data, use of MyMathLab improves averages student course grades by approximately one letter grade. A $ charge will automatically be charged to your student account in addition to tuition. This covers the use of MyMathLab and the online ebook use for one year. Use of MyFire and MyMathLab Please obtain all course information from MyFire at the beginning of the term. After obtaining these documents, MyFire will no longer be used. All course work will then be obtained by using MyMathLab. Grading Scale The university s general grading scale is provided in the Academic Policies and Procedures section of the Southeastern University Catalog. 3 Assessments and Grading Category POINTS Description Unit 800 There will be eight unit exams totaling 89% (800/900) of the student s Exams final average. Chapters 1 5. MyMathLab Homework (Some chapters are split into two different units) 100 The Homework average from MyMathLab will count as 11% (100/900) of the student s final average. Note: Student may work ahead, but missing a due date has consequences. This course requires students to complete each assignment and exam by the due date, or zero credit will be recorded. This online course runs for 16 consecutive weeks and does not have days off. It is imperative that students stay on track, look ahead, and work around holidays.
