3 Walter Baker Sports Centre 100 Malvern Drive Pool Column Repairs Scope of Work Section April 2014 Page 1 of 2 This work consists of the supply of all labour, equipment and materials necessary for installing steel structural reinforcing:all work to be completed between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. 1. Remove all concrete and tile from the base of the column to expose the column, anchor bolts and baseplate. This will be a very delicate process to avoid imposing additional stress to the existing structure. 2. Clean all steel to a white metal finish using a power wire brush or an alternative method 3. Prior to undertaking any remedial work or painting, the existing baseplate and anchor bolts will be reviewed by Structural Engineer from AAR. Should additional testing of the steel elements be deemed necessary it will be carried out at the owners expense. 4. Install structural reinforcing, generally consisting of steel plates welded to the existing steel with the intent of returning the cross section to its original condition. 5. Repaint all the newly exposed steel as outlined in the specifications. 6. Reinstate all the finishes including floors to match existing. as outlined in the specifications which form part of this contract. This work includes, but is not limited to the following requirements: Contract Method: Construct Work under single contract Work by Others: Co-ordinate work with that of other contractors. If any part of this work under this contract depends for its proper execution or result upon work of another

Work Schedule: Construction work will be executed only between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. during the week of February 9, 2015 to February 14, It is the intention of the specifications to provide finish work. Any items omitted there which are clearly necessary for the completion of the work or its appurtenances shall be considered as portion of the work.

Description of Work.1 Works under this Contract includes the structural repairs to steel columns on gridlines EX-20 on the north side of the pool as detailed in the complete set of Specifications which form part of this Contract. It is the responsibility of the contractor to coordinate all components of the project as outlined in contract..2 The specifications are not intended as a detailed description of all activities to perform the individual tasks but serve to indicate particular requirements of the required work and remove all hazards to make site safe..3 It is the intention of the specifications to provide finished work. Any items omitted there which are clearly necessary for the completion of the Work or its appurtenances shall be considered as portion of the Work. 2. Just prior to Final inspection for issuance of final certificate of completion, supply to the contract administrator one (1) set of white prints with deviations neatly inked in. 3. Supervision.1 Contractor shall employ on-site at all times during work hours a competent site foreman who shall have direct management of all trades and sub trades including subcontractors. 4. Hours Of Work.1 Works will be carried out only between hours of 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Monday, February 9, 2015 to Saturday, February 14, For all other additional work hours, arrangements will be made with the Building Facility Supervisors by appointment only. 5. Work Schedule.1 Start at 10:00 p.m. February 9, 2015 and be totally completed by 6:00a.m. Saturday, February 14, Contractor s Use of Site.1 Contractor has limited use of the site and all equipment and debris are to be removed from site at the end of every work day..2 At all times, move stored products or equipment, which interfere with operations of regular programs, other maintenance contractors or the public..3 Execute work with least possible interference or disturbance to site operations and the Patrons/Customers..4 Contractor shall allow access for owner personnel to maintain existing operational equipment.

Codes and Standards.1 Perform work in accordance with the latest edition, amendments and Regulations of The Ontario Building Code, Environmental Act, Health and Safety Act and any other code of Provincial or local application, with the understanding that in any case of conflict, the more stringent requirements shall apply..2 Meet or exceed requirements of Contract Documents, specified standards, codes and reference documents..3 Work to conform to referenced standards and codes as reaffirmed or revised to date of specifications. 8. Setting Out of Work.1 Assume full responsibility for and execute complete layout of all location of all utilities, work locations, lines and elevations as per site conditions..2 Provide devices needed to lay out and execute all work safely. 9. Project Meetings.1 Contractor will hold project meetings at regular prescribed times..2 Contractor will notify all parties concerned of meetings.

8 Walter Baker Sports Centre 100 Malvern Drive Pool Column Repairs Project Specific Requirements Section December 2014 Page 4 of 6.3 Contractor will record minutes of meetings and distribute to all parties within 3 working days of meeting..4 Representatives of the Owner, the Consultant, the Contractor, Subcontractors and Suppliers attending meetings shall be qualified and authorized to act on behalf of the party each represents. 10. Existing Services.1 Where work involves breaking into or connecting to existing services, carry out work at times directed by governing authorities, with minimum of disturbance to remaining operation of the Facility..2 Before commencing Work, establish location and extent of service lines in area of Work..3 Obtain approval from affected agency for any shut-down or closure of active service or facility. Adhere to approved schedule and provide notice to affected parties..4 Where unknown services are encountered, immediately advise responsible agency and confirm findings in writing..5 Remove abandoned service. Cap or otherwise seal lines at cut-off points as directed by responsible agency..6 Record locations of maintained, re-routed and abandoned service. 11. Protection and Interference.1 Where security has been reduced by work of Contract, provide temporary means to maintain security..2 Provide temporary dust screens, barriers, warning signs in locations where renovation and alteration work is adjacent to areas used by public or City..3 Contractor shall maintain normal operation and traffic flow with minimum amount of inconvenience to residents.

At all locations, provide hoarding around perimeter of equipment (scaffolding) and exposed materials..8 Provide after-hours security when hoarding is insufficient to reasonably prevent access to stored materials, tools, equipment and vehicles. 12. Clean-Up.1 Contractor shall remove debris and hazardous impediments from site at end of each workday..2 Contractor shall remove material and equipment from site at end of each workday, which is not to be re-used unless otherwise noted. 13. Concealed Services.1 Contractor shall be responsible for protection of pipes, duct, cables, conduits, wires and other services from damage..2 Contractor shall take necessary precautions to locate concealed services, and to protect them from damage..3 Contractor shall be responsible for making good, to satisfaction of owners, damage to services resulting from Contractor's performance of work, without additional cost to Owner. 14. Fire Protection.1 Contractor shall take all necessary actions to obtain a Hot Work Permit which will recognize the level of hazard for all activities that will be

10 Walter Baker Sports Centre 100 Malvern Drive Pool Column Repairs Project Specific Requirements Section December 2014 Page 6 of 6 subject to open flame, sparks, explosive, heaters, fire detection and fire control device intervention..2 Contractor shall be responsible to coordinate and provide the Fire Watch as required under the Hot Work Permit and the Fire Code.3 Contractor shall protect adjoining areas, when welding, brazing and performing operations with open flame, combustible adhesive and/or flammable solvents..4 Contractor shall supply portable fire extinguisher when welding, brazing and performing operations with open flame, combustible adhesives and/or flammable solvents..5 Contractor shall ensure rags and waste containing oil, grease or other flammable materials are removed from site at end of each work day. 15. Co-operation and Co-ordination.1 As part of this contract, the contractor is responsible to co-ordinate the scheduling of all the work with all Construction Activities and business operations. 16. Removals.1 Repair and make good all surfaces cut, damaged or disturbed to owner s approval. Match existing materials, colour, finish and texture. 17. Maintaining Traffic.1 Do not close or obstruct streets, sidewalks, alleys or passageways without necessary permits. Do not place or store materials in streets, alleys, passageways and driveways..2 Conduct all work with minimum interference within the Community End of Section

Provide a list of the last three comparable jobs including, job name and location, specifying authority, and project manager..2 Engage qualified journeypersons as defined by local jurisdiction for all repainting work..3 Employ apprentices provided they work under the direct supervision of qualified journeyperson in accordance with applicable trade regulations..2 Conform to latest MPI requirements for interior repainting work including cleaning, preparation priming and application of finish coats..3 Conform to latest SSPC requirements for power tool cleaning to bare metal work including preparation, cleaning and inspection..4 Materials (primers, paints, thinners and solvents) shall be in accordance with the latest edition of the MPI Approved Product List and shall be from a single manufacturer..5 Paint materials such as reducers and thinners shall be the highest quality product from the same manufacturer of the finish coating and as listed in MPI Maintenance Repainting Manual. The work of this section is to be carried outside of pool normal operating hours..2 Prepare schedule indicating that the cleaning and preparation of all existing surfaces to be repainted will be complete before the application of the primer and finish coats. Allow for the inspection of the prepared surfaces prior to the application of the primer coat or welding..3 Conduct preparation and painting operations in accordance with approved schedule. Schedule operations to approval of Owners Representative such that painted surfaces will have dried and cured sufficiently before the start of other construction operations undertaken in the same area..4 Obtain written authorization from Owners Representative for changes in work schedule..5 Schedule repainting operations to prevent disruption by other trades in and about building. 1.5 SUBMITTALS.1 Provide Submittals in accordance with industry standard procedures..2 Provide 2 copies of Product Data Sheet and manufacturer's application instructions for each product to be used..3 Provide samples. Submit full range colour sample chips for review and selection. Indicate where colour availability is restricted..4 Submit WHMIS MSDS - Material Safety Data Sheets for paint and coating materials..5 Provide maintenance data for incorporation into Maintenance Manual. After completion of operations, return areas to clean condition to approval of Owners Representative..6 Remove paint materials from storage in quantities required for same day use..7 Comply with requirements of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) regarding use, handling storage, and disposal of hazardous materials..8 Fire Safety Requirements:.1 Provide one - 9 kg Type ABC, dry chemical fire extinguisher adjacent to storage area..2 Store oily rags, waste products, empty containers and materials subject to spontaneous combustion in ULC approved, sealed containers and remove from site daily..3 Handle, store, use and dispose of flammable and combustible materials in accordance with National Fire Code of Canada..2 Waste Management and Disposal:.1 Separate waste materials for reuse and recycling..2 Paint and related materials such as thinners and solvents are hazardous products and are subject to regulations for disposal..3 Materials that cannot be reused must be treated as hazardous waste and disposed of in an appropriate manner..4 Place materials defined as hazardous or toxic waste in containers or areas designated for hazardous waste..5 To reduce the amount of contaminants entering waterways, sanitary/storm drain systems or into the ground the following procedures shall be strictly adhered to:.1 Retain cleaners, thinners, solvents and excess paint and place in designated containers and ensure proper disposal..2 Return solvent and oil soaked rags used during painting operations for contaminant recovery, proper disposal, or appropriate cleaning and laundering..3 Dispose of contaminants in an approved legal manner in accordance with hazardous waste regulations..4 Empty paint cans are to be dry prior to disposal or recycling..5 Close and seal tightly partly used cans of materials and store protected in well ventilated fire-safe area at moderate temperature..6 Where paint recycling is available, collect waste materials by type and provide for delivery to recycling or collection facility. 1.7 SITE CONDITIONS.1 Heating, Ventilation and Lighting:.1 Do not perform repainting work unless adequate and continuous ventilation and sufficient heating facilities are in place to maintain ambient air and substrate

Where required, provide continuous ventilation for seven days after completion of application of paint..3 Co-ordinate use of existing ventilation system with Owners Representative and ensure its operation during and after application of paint as required..4 Provide temporary ventilating and heating equipment where permanent facilities are not available or supplemental ventilating and heating equipment if ventilation and heating from existing system is inadequate to meet minimum requirements. Use of gas-fired appliances is not permitted..5 Do not perform painting work unless minimum lighting level of 323 Lux is provided on surfaces to be painted..2 Temperature, Humidity and Substrate Moisture Content Levels:.1 Unless specifically pre-approved by specifying body, Paint Inspection Agency and product manufacturer, do not perform repainting work when:.1 Ambient air and substrate temperatures are below 10 degrees C..2 Substrate temperature is over 32 degrees C unless paint is specifically formulated for application at high temperatures..3 Relative humidity within area to be repainted is above 85%..3 Surface and Environmental Conditions:.1 Apply paint finish in areas where dust is no longer being generated by related construction operations..2 Apply paint to adequately prepared surfaces and to surfaces within moisture limits noted herein..3 Apply paint when previous coat of paint is dry or adequately cured, unless otherwise pre-approved by specific coating manufacturer. 1.8 MAINTENANCE.1 Submit one - four litre unopened container of paint and primer. Part 2 Products 2.1 MATERIALS.1 Paint materials listed in latest edition of MPI Approved Product List (APL) are acceptable for use on this project..2 Paint materials to be products of single manufacturer. 2.2 COLOURS AND MIXING.1 Owners Representative will select a White colour based on the Manufacturer s standard premixed colour range.

If directions are not on container, obtain instructions in writing from manufacturer and provide copy of instructions to Owners Representative..5 Re-mix paint in containers prior to and during application to ensure break-up of lumps, complete dispersion of settled pigment, and gloss uniformity. 2.3 INTERIOR PAINTING SYSTEMS.1 RIN Structural Steel and Metal Fabrications. RIN 5.1K. 2 Component Epoxy. Egg shell gloss level. System to consist of primer coat plus 2 complete finish coats. Colour White. MPI product number Primer: by same manufacturer as finish coat. Rust inhibitive, high build catalyzed polyamide/ bisphenol epoxy primer. Designed for fast dry and quick or extended recoatability. Meets Class A requirements for Slip Coefficient. Volume Solids: 65% ± 2%, mixed. Weight Solids: 81% ± 2%, mixed. Mix ratio: 1:1. Application thicknesses: minimum 5.0 mils DFT. To the following physical properties:.1 Abrasion Resistance: to ASTM D4060. CS17 wheel, 1000 cycles, 1 kg load. Result: 200 mg loss..2 Accelerated Weathering: QUV, Acrolon 218 HS topcoat. Part 3 Execution 3.1 MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS.1 Comply with manufacturer's written recommendations or specifications, including product technical bulletins, handling, storage and installation instructions, and datasheets. 3.2 EXISTING CONDITIONS.1 Prior to commencing work, examine site conditions and existing surfaces to be cleaned and repainted. Report in writing to Owners Representative damages, defects, or unsatisfactory or unfavourable conditions or surfaces that will adversely affect this work..2 Do not commence repainting work until such adverse conditions and defects have been corrected and surfaces and conditions are acceptable to Painting Subcontractor and Owners Representative. 3.3 PROTECTION OF ADJACENT SURFACES.1 Protect existing surfaces and adjacent fixtures from all damages related to work of this section including paint spatters, markings and other damage caused by cleaning operations. Provide suitable non-staining covers or masking. If damaged, clean and restore such surfaces as directed by Owners Representative..2 Provide protection to the approval of Owners Representative to all floor and wall surfaces of the pools and pool deck and the area adjacent to the pool area, during execution of the work. Immediately clean paint splatters from tiled surfaces to approval of Owners Representative. Perform cleaning operations continually during the preparation stages to maintain clean environment in the area..7 Provide dust collection and air filtering and cleaning as required to maintain a proper work environment inside the area. 3.4 PREPARATION.1 Perform cleaning and preparation for interior painting in accordance with MPI Maintenance Repainting Manual requirements except where otherwise specified..2 Clean and prepare interior steel surfaces to be repainted in accordance with MPI Repaint Surface Preparation (RPS) standard MPI RSP-7B. Remove all contaminates from surfaces, pockets and corners to be repainted by brushing with clean brushes, blowing with clean dry compressed air, or brushing/vacuum cleaning as required..3 Prepare all interior steel surfaces to be repainted in accordance with the following standard:.1 SSPC SP-11. Power Tool Cleaning to Bare Metal. Power Tool Cleaning to Bare Metal: when viewed without magnification, shall be free of all visible oil, grease, dirt, dust, mill scale, rust, paint, oxide, corrosion products and other foreign matter. All contaminants shall be completely removed from the surface down to bare metal..2 Select suitable tools and cleaning media that have been found to meet the requirements of SSPC SP Comply with SSPC SP-11 for procedures to be followed prior to and after cleaning to protect fresh cleaned surfaces prior to repainting..4 After all metal surfaces have been cleaned and prior to application of primer coat, arrange for inspection of all surfaces by Owners Representative. Do not apply paint until prepared surfaces have been accepted by Owners Representative..5 Prevent contamination of cleaned surfaces by grease, oil and solvents before priming and between applications of remaining coats. Touch-up, spot prime, and apply primer as soon as possible after cleaning and before deterioration occurs..6 Sand and dust between coats as required to provide adequate adhesion for next coat and to remove defects visible from distance up to 1000 mm. 3.5 APPLICATION.1 Apply paint materials in accordance with paint manufacturer's written application instructions..2 Apply paint by method that is best suited for substrate being repainted using air sprayer and / or airless sprayer. Rolled surfaces free of roller tracking and heavy stipple unless approved by Owners Representative..4 Spray Application:.1 Provide and maintain equipment that is suitable for intended purpose, capable of properly atomizing paint to be applied, and equipped with suitable pressure regulators and gauges..2 Keep paint ingredients properly mixed in containers during paint application by continuous mechanical agitation or as frequently as necessary..3 Apply paint in uniform layer, with overlapping at edges of spray pattern..4 Back roll spray applications and brush out runs and sags immediately..5 Use brushes to work paint into cracks, crevices and places which are not adequately painted by spray..5 Use dipping, sheepskins or daubers when no other method is practical in places of difficult access and when specifically authorized by Owners Representative..6 Apply paint coats in continuous manner and allow surfaces to dry and properly cure between coats for minimum time period as recommended by manufacturer. Minimum dry film thickness of coats not less than specified above. Repaint thin spots or bare areas before next coat of paint is applied..7 Sand and dust between coats to remove visible defects. 3.6 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL.1 Cleaning, preparation and painting work shall be inspected by a Paint Inspection Agency (inspector) appointed and paid for by the Owners Representative. Painting contractor shall notify Paint Inspection Agency a minimum of one week prior to commencement of work and provide a copy of project painting specification..2 Cleaned and prepared surfaces shall be inspected by Paint Inspection Agency who shall notify Owners Representative and General Contractor in writing of defects or problems, prior to commencing painting work, or after prime coat shows defects in substrate..3 Paint inspection agency shall inspect each coat and conduct tests to confirm that the specified film thickness is achieved for vertical and horizontal surface conditions..4 Standard of Acceptance:.1 Vertical elements: no defects visible from a distance of 1000 mm at 90 degrees to surface..2 Final coat to exhibit uniformity of colour and uniformity of sheen across full surface area..5 Advise Owners Representative when each coat is ready for inspection. Do not proceed with subsequent coats until previous coat has been approved.

Sediment remaining from cleaning operations to be recycled or disposed of in manner acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction..6 Recycle paint and coatings in excess of repainting requirements as specified. 3.8 RESTORATION.1 Clean and re-install hardware items removed before undertaken painting operations..2 Remove protective coverings and warning signs as soon as practical after operations cease..3 Remove paint splashings on affected exposed surfaces. Remove smears and spatter immediately as operations progress, using compatible solvent..4 Protect freshly completed surfaces from paint droppings and dust to approval of Owners Representative.
