This study presents a nuanced portrait of the first-year experience of Latino males attending a predominantly White public research university. Specifically, the relationship between their ability to draw upon and use various forms of social capital and their ability to matriculate and persist to their second year of college was examined. Research findings will be of interest to educational stakeholders who aspire to improve the graduation rates of the Latino male undergraduate populations. (Dissertation Chair: Victor B.
