1 BINDURA UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE EDUCATION MARCH/AUGUST 2015 ADMISSIONS The University invites suitably qualified applicants to be enrolled in the programmes on offer as detailed below: All cidates who apply for degree programmes should have the specified A Level subjects at least 5 O Level subjects including English Language Mathematics. Cidates applying for Diplomas Certificates must have the relevant 5 O Level subjects including Mathematics English Language. The Mathematics Bridging Course will only be offered for programmes as indicated. Cidates who wish to be considered for mature or special entry must submit an additional letter to this effect. Mature entry will be considered for cidates who are at least 25 years of age have proven relevant work experience. Special entry will be accorded to cidates with relevant diplomas work experience. Applicants must clearly indicate on the application form whether they want to start in March or August the mode of study they prefer ( or ). Applicants with international qualifications must attach an assessment of their qualifications from approved authorities 1

2 FACULTY OF SCIENCE EDUCATION PROGRAMME ENTRY REQUIREMENTS DURATION/INTAKE MODE POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA IN EDUCATION (PGDE) A good first degree from a recognized University specialising in any Secondary/High School teaching subject. 1 ½ years DIPLOMA IN SCIENCE EDUCATION EDUCATION HONOURS DEGREE (HBScEd) 5 `O` Levels with a pass in a Science Subject, English Language Mathematics. Option 1 Biology Chemistry Physics Option 2 Computer Science Mathematics Physics Physics, Mathematics, Biological Sciences, Chemistry a) Have obtained a certificate in Education/Diploma in Education at Secondary Level where the subject of study was strongly represented. b) Have 5 passes at `O` Level including English Language Mathematics Block Release/Vodl Block Release/Vodl EDUCATION HONOURS DEGREE(BScEDH) Physics, Mathematics, Biological Sciences, Chemistry Have obtained 2 A Level passes in any of the following subjects Biology, Chemistry, Physics Mathematics, 5 O Level passes including English Language Mathematics. 3 FACULTY OF SOCIAL SCIENCES HUMANITIES PROGRAMME ENTRY REQUIREMENTS DURATION/INTAKE MODE SOCIAL WORK (HBScSW) 2 A Level subjects or A Diploma in Social Work plus 5 O Level subjects including English Language Mathematics PEACE AND GOVERNANCE(HBScPG) 2 A Level subjects plus 5 O Level subjects including English Language. Arts Subjects at A Level will be an added advantage MASTER OF SCIENCE DEGREE IN INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS (MSc.IR) A relevant first Degree from a recognized University passed with a 2.2 degree class or better 2 years January 2016 MASTER OF SCIENCE DEGREE IN PEACE AND GOVERNANCE (MSc.PG) 5 O Level passes including English Language passed with at least grade C A relevant first Degree from a recognized University passed with a 2.2 degree class or better 2 years January O Level passes including English Language passed with at least grade C. 3

4 FACULTY OF AGRICULTURE AND ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE PROGRAMME ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS DURATION/INTAKE MODE BACHELOR OF AGRICULTURAL SCIENCE HONOURS DEGREE (AGRICULTURAL ECONOMICS AND MANAGEMENT) At least two Advanced Level passes will be required as follows : Category 1: Any two of the following subjects: Biology, Agriculture, Geography, Chemistry Physics OR Category 2: Any one of the following subjects: Mathematics or Accounting or Economics or Business Studies/Management of Business in addition to any one subject in category 1. AND 5 O level passes including Mathematics at grade B or better, English Language one of the following Science Subjects: Integrated Science or General Science, Agriculture or combination of Chemistry Biology Applicants without A level passes but are holders of Diploma in Agriculture or Horticulture will be considered. BACHELOR OF AGRICULTURAL SCIENCE HONOURS DEGREE(AGRICULTURAL EDUCATION AND EXTENSION) At least two Advanced Level passes will be required as follows : Category 1: Any two of the following subjects: Biology, Agriculture, Geography, Chemistry Physics OR 4

5 Category 2: Any one of the following subjects: Mathematics or Sociology or Accounting or Economics or Business Studies/Management of Business in addition to any one subject in category 1. AND 5 O level passes including English Language, Mathematics at grade C or better, one of the following Science Subjects: Integrated Science or General Science, Geography, Agriculture or combination of Chemistry Biology Applicants without A level passes but are holders of Diploma in Agriculture or Horticulture will be considered. BACHELOR OF AGRICULTURAL SCIENCE HONOURS DEGREE (CROP SCIENCE) Those with O level Mathematics at grade D or E may be required to pass a Mathematics bridging course At least two Advanced Level passes will be required as follows ; Category 1: Any two of the following: Biology, Agriculture, Chemistry, Physics, Food Science or Category 2: Any one of the following: Mathematics or Geography in addition to any one of the subjects in Category 1 January 2016 Block Release AND 5 O level passes including Mathematics, English Language Science with a grade C or better A holder of a relevant Diploma in an Agricultural field recognized by Senate may be admitted to the first year of the degree programme provided he/she has attained an approved stard of performance in his/her Diploma course. BACHELOR OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE FORESTRY (BES) 2 A level passes in any of the following subjects; Agriculture, Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Physics, Computer Science or a relevant Diploma from a recognized institution. 6

7 5 O level passes including English Language, Mathematics one of the following Science subjects; Integrated Science or General Science, Agriculture or combination of Chemistry Biology BACHELOR OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE SAFETY, HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT (BES) 2 A level passes including one from the following: Agriculture, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Geography, Mathematics, Physics, Food Sciences, Environmental Science Environmental Management or a relevant Diploma 5 O level passes including English Language, Mathematics a Science subject with a grade C or better BACHELOR OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE WILDLIFE AND RANGELAND MANAGEMENT (BES) 2 A level passes from the following subjects; Agriculture, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Geography Computer Science or a relevant Diploma from a recognized institution 5 O level passes including English Language, Science Mathematics 7

8 BACHELOR OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE NATURAL RESOURCES MANAGEMENT 2 A level passes in Science subjects. Geography will have an added advantage or a relevant Diploma 5 O level passes including English Language Mathematics with grade C or better. FACULTY OF SCIENCE PROGRAMME ENTRY REQUIREMENTS DURATION/ INTAKE MODE (HONS) DEGREE IN APPLIED MATHEMATICS (HBSC AMT) A pass at A Level in Mathematics any other of the following subjects; Physics, Chemistry, Biology or their equivalence And March August 2015 Full time 5 O Level passes including English Language Mathematics with at least Grade C or better Special entry for cidates with relevant diplomas may be considered. 8

9 (HONS) DEGREE IN STATISTICS AND FINANCIAL MATHEMATICS (HBSCSFM) Two A Level passes including Mathematics 5 O Level passes including English Language Mathematics with at least Grade C or better Special entry for cidates with relevant diplomas may be considered. March August 2015 Full time (HONS) DEGREE IN PHYSICS WITH COMPUTER SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY (HBSC PCT) A pass at A Level in Physics Mathematics 5 O Level passes including English Language Mathematics with at least Grade C or better Special entry for cidates with relevant diplomas may be considered. March August 2015 Full time BACHER OF SCIENCE BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES (BSCBZH) A pass at A Level in Biology in at least one of the following subjects or their equivalent; Chemistry, Geography, Agriculture, Computer Science, Mathematics Physics. March August O level passes including English Language Mathematics passed with at least grade C or better Special entry for cidates with relevant Diplomas may be considered. 9

10 MASTERS OF SCIENCE IN CONSERVATION BIOLOGY(MScCB) A first degree in Biological Sciences or other related degree passed with a 2.2 degree class or better 2 years 5 O level passes including English Language Mathematics passed with at least grade C or better DEVELOPMENT STUDIES A level Geography any other A level subject. 5 O Level passes including English Language Mathematics with a grade C or better COMPUTER SCIENCE(HBSc COMP) Two A Level passes in Mathematics Physics or either Mathematics or Physics any one of the following A Level subjects (Accounting, Economics, Computing, Biology, Chemistry or any other relevant science subject) Full time or 5 O level including Mathematics English Language with a Grade C or better Holders of HEXCO National Diploma in Computer Studies or Information Technology or equivalent have relevant experience may be considered 10

11 DISASTER MANAGEMENT STUDIES A level Geography any other A level subject or Diploma in Disaster Management plus relevant work experience 5 O Level passes including English Language Mathematics with a grade C or better IN NURSING EDUCATION HONOURS DEGREE (BScNE) 5 `O` levels including English Language a Science subject with grade C or better (`A` Level passes in Science Subjects are an added advantage) A Diploma in General Nursing, a current practising certificate or equivalent be registered with the nurses council with at least 2 years post basic qualification working experience. A post basic Diploma registered by the Nurses Council will be an added advantage. 11

12 SPORTS SCIENCE AND MANAGEMENT(HBScSSM) Two passes at A level in Biology, Geography, Physics, Physical Science, Chemistry, Chemistry, Computer Science, Sociology, Management of Business, Economics, Accounts April `O` levels including English Language,Mathematics a Science subject with grade C or better Special Entry for cidates with relevant Diploma in Sport or Education specialising in Physical Education Sport or equivalent will be considered. CHEMICAL TECHNOLOGY (BScCHT) A pass at A level in Chemistry one of the following subjects or their recognized equivalents ; Biology, Geography, Physics, Physical Science, Agriculture, Computer Science, Food Science. March August `O` levels including English Language, Mathematics a Science subject with grade C or better MASTER OF SCIENCE (ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY) A first degree in Chemistry, Chemical Technology, Applied Chemistry or other related degrees passed with a 2.2 degree class or better 2 years 5 `O` levels including English Language, Mathematics a 12

13 Science subject with grade C or better Cidates with a BSc(Hons) degree with a third class may be considered on the basis of five years or more industrial working experience in an appropriate laboratory. FACULTY OF COMMERCE PROGRAMME ENTRY REQUIREMENTS DURATION/INTAKE MODE CERTIFICATE IN OFFICE MANAGEMENT 5 `O` levels including English Language 6 months Part time DIPLOMA IN OFFICE MANAGEMENT ECONOMICS (BScECO A certificate in Office Management or equivalent from Bindura University of Science Education or any other recognized institution plus 5 O levels including English Language 2 A level passes in any of the following; Economics, Accounting, Computer Science, Mathematics, Business Studies or Management of Business Studies 1 ½ years Part time or 5 `O` levels including English Language Mathematics with grade C or better Special entry admissions may be considered for applicants with a relevant commercial diploma. BLOCK RELEASE applicants must attach confirmation of 13

BACHELOR OF COMMERCE HONOURS DEGREE IN PURCHASING AND SUPPLY (BCom.P&S) 2 A Level passes from the following: Accounting, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Business Studies or Management of Business Studies. 5 `O` levels including English Language Mathematics with grade C or better Special entry admissions may be considered for applicants with a Diploma in Purchasing Supply or equivalent. BLOCK RELEASE applicants must attach confirmation of employment with 2 years relevant working experience is needed. BACHELOR OF BUSINESS STUDIES HONOURS DEGREE IN MARKETING (BBS.MKT) A pass in any A Level commercial subject any other relevant A level subject. Full time 5 `O` levels including English Language Mathematics with grade C or better Special entry admissions may be considered for applicants with a special Diploma in Marketing such as LCCI, IMM, or equivalent. BLOCK RELEASE applicants must attach confirmation of 14

15 employment with 2 years relevant working experience is needed BACHELOR OF ACCOUNTANCY HONOURS DEGREE (BAcc) 2 A Level passes from the following: Accounting, Economics, Computer Science, Business Studies or Management of Business, Mathematics, Biology, Physics or Chemistry. 5 `O` levels including English Language Mathematics with grade C or better Special entry admissions may be considered for applicants with Accounting Diploma, Intermediate Accounting Diplomas from HEXCO, CIS, ACCA, CIMA SAAA or equivalent. Applicants with Higher Diplomas from HEXCO, SAAA full Accounting Professional Qualification such as CIS, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent shall be exempted for some Part 1 courses. 16 BACHELOR OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION POLICE AND SECURITY STUDIES. (BBA.PSS) 2 A Level passes from the following: English Literature, Economics, Mathematics, Accounting, Computer Studies, Business Studies, Management of Business Geography or any other relevant subjects. 5 `O` levels including English Language Mathematics with grade C or better Special entry admissions may be considered for applicants with Diploma in Security Management, or, Security Risk Management or equivalent. Applicants should be serving members of any Security related organization. Proof of employment must be attached BACHELOR OF BUSINESS STUDIES IN HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT 2 A Level passes from the following: English Literature, Economics, Mathematics, Accounting, Computer Studies, Business Studies Management of Business or any other relevant subjects. Full time 5 `O` levels including English Language Mathematics with grade C or better Special entry admissions may be considered for applicants with a HEXCO National Diploma in HRM or IPMZ or equivalent BLOCK RELEASE applicants must attach confirmation of employment with 2 years relevant working experience is needed 16

Application Procedure NOTE: All applications must be done on official application forms which can be obtained from the University upon payment of a non-refundable application fee of US$10.00 for Undergraduate programmes US$20.00 for Postgraduate programmes or downloaded from the website; All applications should be accompanied by certified copies of O, A Level certificates or results, Birth certificate, National I.D, other certificates as specified under entry qualifications. No application is valid unless the appropriate application fee has been paid. Downloaded application forms must be accompanied by a valid receipt or bank deposit slip (marked Application fee ) clearly indicating name of the applicant as written on the application form. 17
