2 C O N T E N TS about me Hi! My name is Jeremy Byington. I am from Detroit, Michigan and I am a fourth year Industrial Design Student at the International Center for Creativity in Powell, Ohio. The Industrial Design program at Cedarville University focuses on Product Design, Architectural Design, Interior Design, and Automotive Design. I enjoy inventing and innovating new creative design solutions for the passions in my life. Some of my passions include the outdoors, cycling, and travel which has allowed me to appreciate life around me and its natural beauty and design. I have worked at Champion Home Builders Inc. as a graphic designer working with corporate identity systems and graphic scenarios. Working at a corporate level has helped me gain a further understanding of hard work, efficiency, and dedication. I also do freelance work as an Illustrator creating photorealistic drawings of vehicles. My cycling hobby has pushed me further developing sales talent and mechanical skills while working for Performance Bicycle Inc. 5 PROJECT OBJECTIVE & PROBLEM The goal is to design a road bicycle that is cost efficient and has a sustainable design while performing at a professional level. Currently there are no bicycle frame options that achieve these goals... portfolio / 08 PERSONAL TRANSPORTATION PROJECT 4 Week Project, Senior 2015: What material is stronger, lighter, and more sustainable than carbon fiber; while being used in everyday products that are more cost efficient and have increased benefits for the technology its being used for? Also is there an option for those consumers looking to turn professional but in a budget freindly way? RESEARCH To develop a bicycle that has a sustainable design, I have researched different types of thermoplastics. During the research I found a material called Tegris. Tegris is a thermoplastic made from recycled plastics that is stronger, has a greater impact resistance, and is lighter than carbon fiber, which is the leading material in bicycles. TARGET AUDIENCE This bicycle concept is designed for those that are looking for a professional grade bicycle at a budget. Examples of this personal would be college students, avid cyclist looking to turn pro, or anyone that wants a cool bike!

6 MATERIAL PROPERTIES & RESEARCH TEGRIS MATERIAL PROPERTIES Milliken & Company is a textile firm who developed the material TEGRIS. TEGRIS s material properties share similiar characteristics to that of carbon fiber. According to Milliken, the material properties compared to carbon fiber is: MATERIAL APPLICATION Applying the Tegris material to a bicycle frame would reflect the similiar molding process to its competitor, carbon fiber. The frame would be layered into two halves, pressurized, and then heat cured together to create a single bicycle Tegris frame. SUSTAINABLE DESIGN Being 100% Recycleable this makes this bicycle able to comply within the principles of the social, economical, and ecological sustainability 178% Stronger 18% Lighter 55% Cheaper 100% Recycleable Impact Resistant The Tegris material is currently being used by popular travel accessories manufacturer TUMI.

7 CONCEPT IDEATION These sketches show some of the ideas and thoughts that went into designing an aerodynamic and lightweight bicycle frame.

8 FOAM MODEL As an ideation phase I worked on a blue foam model to develop the frame. The model was then primed and painted to help express and visualize the curves and design lines. 10 Ideation Sketches Brewstation pro The new Hamilton Beach Brewstation Pro allows you to wake up in the morning to a hot and refreshing cup of coffee. The new Brewstation Pro is designed to simplify everyday life with a retro-style design. The theme and innovation of this coffee maker was designed around those who dream and enjoy a retro style from the 1950 s. With the new Brewstation Pro, quality coffee can be brewed and enjoyed within minutes. But how does it work? In the morning, the Brewstation Pro is filled with the desired coffee. The only things needed now are some water and a power connection. While friends and coworkers rush to get their coffee from local barista s, the Brewstation Pro-user only needs to press the start button and wait for his coffee to brew. solidworks model

11 ideation sketches portfolio / 20 Disney wooden toy 2 Week Project, senior 2015: In Collaboration with Disney, Students were tasked with designing a simple shaped, fun and lovable wooden desk toy. BAYMAX is a fun and lovable character from the big hit Disney film Big Hero 6. The idea behind this toy was to create a simple, cute wooden desk toy. Students were asked to use multiple digital design tools and then a prototype to shoe an example of the manufacturing process.

13 Project obejctive The objective was to create the next idea & design for a land speed vehicle for OSU s engineering department. Our team chose to design the world s fastest electric powered remote-controlled vehicle. research For this project our team had to develop the basic knowledge and understanding of aerodynamics. Learning that the most efficient fluid dynamic shape is that of a teardrop (Laminar Flow), which developed the founding for our design. Buckeye bullet redesign portfolio / 24 4 Week Project, Junior 2015: The Engineering team of Ohio State University are happiest when defying the laws of speed, as we find out what it takes to create the next generation of land speed vehicles Challenges Some challenges that our team faced were the forces of speed and weight. Having a vehicle travel over 200 MPH and being six feet long and weighing under fifty pounds challenges the boundaries of physics and fluid dynamics.

15 who Christian Community Church what Research & Develop a Redesign Church Expansion 4 Week Project, Junior 2015: Students were challenged to design an expansion to the existing CCC Building. Innovating the new addition with obstacles such as roads, streams, and elevation. 16 Project obejctive The objective was to create an Architectural expansion that met the requirements of the client and kept with the current design of the existing church building. Designing an efficient multi-purpose room with a lounge that had a gorgeous view. sketch model Exterior & Interior Views Interior View Floorplan overview The floorplan revolves around a center point which is the Kitchen. Allowing service access for events without the distraction to the guests. The lounge overlooks a small stream running through the woods giving a fantastic view during the seasons. The multi-purpose room gives efficient use of its space, connecting with the kitchen, lobby, concert space, and locker rooms. Overall this is a fluent and efficient design utilizing each rooms connections and their functions.

17 Project Brief Our project was focused on developing a creative masterplan that accomplished the requirements of the client, being efficient with the use of property provided, and keeping a consistent theme throughout the design process. portfolio / 32 manning parkway assisted living home masterplan 4 Week Project, senior 2015: In Collaboration with our client, students were challenged in teams to research and develop a masterplan for a senior living center. Our Client challenged the team to develop a futuristic Senior Living Center on a 11 acre piece of property located along a busy road. The property is divided into two sections with a strong elevation gradient in the back (west side). Some obtacles we had to overcome were building restrictions along roads, utilities, streams, and two main cell towers located on the property. For our main concept and theme in our masterplan, we were inspired with a historical Europeanconcept relating to historical castle designs and cute german villages. These topographical maps show the properties challenges and how we developed our main road system, which proved to be the main challenge of our design. How do we make an efficient road system that keeps in line with a European castle concept?

18 During our research phase we virtually traveled through Europe discovering unique building styles and materials to help furth develop our concept.
