3 phase6 hallo Europa EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The project hallo-app Europa is an European initiative by VISION EDUCATION and began in October 2015 with the hallo-app Deutsch. Further phase6 hallo-apps will be released by the end of 2016 for all official languages of the European Union as well as for Turkish, Arabic, and Farsi. The hallo-app Deutsch was developed in cooperation with the technology partners Alphary and phase6, as well as the publishing partners Hueber and Mildenberg and will be made available to refugees and immigrants as a free download. The self-study app simplifies and promotes language education. This is important because language is a fundamental part of integration. The hallo app runs on smartphones and tablets (Android/iOS) and gives the opportunity to students to learn the basics of the language either on their own or together with a teacher. The app is based on textbooks by Mildenberger, a leading publishing house in the area of primary education, and Hueber, the global market leader for German as a foreign language. The apps including separate beginners apps for children and adults (2015) as well as for teenagers and specific occupations (2016) systematically teach a basic vocabulary of around words relating to various topics. With pictures, words, and sentences accompanied by audio - even students unfamiliar with the Latin alphabet - can learn German easily and efficiently. The project kicked off with the hallo-app for children and accompanying textbook in October 2015 with a press conference held by the Federal Ministry of Education and Women in Vienna, Austria. On November 6th, the project was extended to Germany with a press conference. Further country launches will follow in Europe
