4 3. Installation guidelines es These suggested guidelines are provided to assist with the installation of your equipment. Specific installation instructions are unique to your equipment and are provided by third party equipment vendors. Although installation services are provided by Bell, ongoing adherence to these guidelines will help ensure that you optimize the the quality of your installation and the performance of your equipment. 3a. Equipment installation in racks All units of equipment should be installed, aligned and secured in accordance with your equipment manufacturers specifications and standard telecommunications practices All installer-mounted units should be secured on each side of the unit with a minimum of four screws in the upper and lower mounting holes. Units exceeding 200mm in height require an additional mounting screw on both sides for each additional 200mm interval. Equipment should not be stacked without securing it to the cabinet Additional screws may be required for heavier units or as required by manufacturers' specifications All units of equipment (including cabling, connectors, etc.) should not extend beyond the front or rear edges of the base or guardrail of the frame Mounting space adapters should be used where hole spacing is incorrect for the equipment being mounted in the frame, bay or cabinet. The frame, bay or cabinet should not be drilled to accommodate equipment mounting Installation of power and data cables should be neat and tidy. Cables should be run down the sides of the racks and enter the equipment from the front or rear. Cables should not have excessive slack 3b. Air conditioning Facilities Most facilities have raised floors with cool air distributed beneath the floor and blown up into alternating equipment aisles. This system is designed to optimize air circulation. Equipment aisles with perforated floor tiles are cooled as the conditioned air blows up through the holes in the floor Bell provides HVAC sufficient to maintain the temperature with the range of 10 to 25 C. It should be noted that the air conditioning system operation is typically based on the return air temperature of the air entering the air-handling units. There may be hot spots within the room where the temperature is higher within co-location cabinets 3c. Cabinets and cages Co-location cabinets have been designed to accommodate PC tower configuration equipment, or a limited number of rack-mounted servers. Cooling is typically by means of fans mounted at the top of the cabinet which draw hot air out and pull in cooler air from below When blade or rack-mounted servers are installed, sub-optimal cooling may result in some situations. These types of servers are designed to blow air from front to back. Please note: o It is important to ensure that the front of the equipment is aligned with the cool aisle so that cool air is circulated through the equipment Updated as of 4/10/2007 4

5 o o If the servers are mounted with gaps between them, consideration should be given to installing cover plates over the spaces between servers. This is to ensure that hot air from the lower servers does not find its way into the air intakes of the upper servers In some situations, such as when customer equipment is generating too much heat, it may be desirable to change the perforated metal cabinet doors with wire mesh doors to improve the air circulation through the cabinet. Such requests should be directed to Bell to arrange to have the doors changed. There will be an additional fee for this request 4. Managing your service To request additional space or power please contact your account representative. 4a. Requesting additional access cards Bell will provide up to four access cards to its co-location facilities as part of the initial standard service offer. To request additional access cards please visit and download the Co-location access card request form which is located under Hosting & Web Sites. Typically, this is one metre in front of the rack and 60cm at the rear of the rack 5c. Fire protection Upon discovery of fire or smoke, please evacuate the building then call immediately Nothing shall be placed on top of a unit of equipment that could interfere with the airflow necessary for the cooling of that equipment All doors in co-location space shall be kept closed at all times. Fire doors and internal security doors shall not be blocked, jarred open or have lock assemblies impeded or disabled Updated as of 4/10/2007 6

Security DCRs shall wear valid company picture identification (above the waist, and visible from the front) at all times while in a facility. This identification shall show: the company name, employee name, employee signature, card number, and current photograph of the employee Whenever a DCR is responsible for work activities in an unattended facility, the facility shall be kept secure at all times. The DCR shall guard against and take necessary steps to prevent unauthorized visitors from entering the facility The DCR shall keep doors, windows and gates closed at all times The DCR shall be responsible for the security of their personal valuables, tools, materials and vehicles Unauthorized equipment or devices such as cameras, recording equipment, metal ladders, etc. shall not be permitted in facilities without the prior written permission of a Bell representative The DCR shall not adjust or disable any HVAC, humidity control, or building alarm system, nor open any electrical panels or operate any circuit breakers to any systems and equipment except those that are located within their own equipment space and dedicated to their own equipment. Any necessary adjustments should be requested through the Bell help desk 5e. Dust mitigation The DCR shall perform general cleaning of the co-location space around the area in which work is being done regularly during equipment installation or removal. Care shall be taken to generate a minimal amount of airborne dust The cutting, filing, drilling, and milling or painting of any installation materials, etc. shall be done outside of the facility s equipment space. When drilling equipment or structures that cannot be removed from the facility, approval to carry out such work shall be requested of Bell. DCRs shall take proper dust prevention and collection measures. These measures shall include the use of a High Efficiency Particulate Arrestor (HEPA) vacuum, capable of filtering particles larger than.3 microns in size, and equipped with a static dissipative hose to capture dust and chips from the drilling of ironwork and equipment during the unpacking process and while cleaning cable racks and equipment 5f. Electrical Portable electrical tools shall be grounded or double insulated Electrical appliances such as vacuum cleaners, hand drills etc. shall be grounded UPS-protected circuits are to be used exclusively for telecommunications and computer equipment or rack-mounted fans. Multiple plug adapters are prohibited. Use of extension cords beyond the installation interval is prohibited Unused openings (including conduit knockouts) in electrical enclosures and fittings shall be closed with appropriate covers, plugs or plates. Electrical enclosures such as switches, receptacles and junction boxes, shall be provided with tight fitting covers or plates If you have circuit ratings exceeding 15 amps running to cabinets, you must ensure that any power bars, receptacles and equipment connected to the circuit are rated for the increased current load Power bars shall not be daisy-chained together to provide additional receptacles. If the existing power bar within the cabinet has insufficient receptacles for the amount of equipment installed in the cabinet, then you must put a request into Bell to have the power bar upgraded. There will be an additional fee for this request 5g. Seismic considerations All equipment must be securely fastened to relay racks. The only exception is PC tower configuration equipment that is contained within a fully enclosed cabinet 5h. Grounding All chassis, shield, and equipment ground bonds may be made using a solder-less wrapped connection, a soldered connection, or single-hole ring type crimped connector mounted to a properly prepared surface of the frame, bay, or cabinet with suitable hardware and shakeproof lock washer. The placement of the lock washer shall be between the head of the securing device and the connector, not between the connector and the contact surface Frame ground connectors, chassis, shield, and equipment bonds shall not be stacked one on top of the other under the same mounting hardware A grounding conductor shall not be secured or supported by metallic clamps that completely encircle the conductor All ground connections shall be secure All grounding conductor contact surfaces shall be cleaned and treated with a non-oxidizing agent Chassis and shield grounds may be made using single-hole crimped compression connectors or by wire wrapping to an approved wire-wrap terminal. If a manufacturer provides a termination for a chassis, shield, or quiet ground, that bond shall be made Network Equipment Building Systems (NEBS) tested self-tapping screws and/or tooth-type lock washers are also approved for chassis grounding connections 6.
