2 Assessment & Final Grade Your final grade will be based on the percentage of total points earned in lecture exams, daily quizzes/assignments and your laboratory participation. Please be aware that the grading scale is subject to change at the discretion of the course instructor. Category Percentage Exam 1 10 Exam 2 10 Exam 3 15 Exam 4 15 Final 15 Weekly Quizzes 10 Laboratory 25 Total: 100% Exams Although the first three tests are not cumulative, the ideas in this class build on one another. However, the final is a cumulative test. The tests will be a combination of multiple choice and essay questions. See the Course Schedule for exam dates. GRADING AND EXAM POLICY 1) There will be no make-up exams given without a valid excuse (such as a doctors note) this statement is true for both lecture and laboratory exams. 2) You must contact me before the exam to let me know you will not be attending and provide either an oral or written excuse. 3) If you do not contact me before the exam you will not be allowed to take a make-up exam. 4) You will be required to present written documentation of your excuse within 72 hours after the start of the exam time, after which you will not be allowed to take a make-up exam (the exception being if you are incapacitated in some way). 5) Any make-up exam will be completed within one week of the originally scheduled exam (unless there are extraordinary circumstances involved). 6) All make-up exams will be written, short answer type exams worth equal points as the missed exam. 7) There is no extra credit given, all points toward your grade will come from the above listed examinations. 8) The laboratory is an integral portion of the course to do well on lecture exams you must attend laboratory sections. 9) If you are having a problem with the class "see me", so we can discuss the problem and make some attempt for you to over come it. 10) If you have an emergency and must get in contact with me use WebCT or call or leave a note with one of the office personnel in the General Office WHI 101. Make-up Exams - If you know you will be absent on the day of an exam, you must notify the instructor in advance and provide a valid excuse. To be eligible for a make-up exam, you must have prior approval from the Instructor or provide written proof that you were severely ill, injured or totally incapacitated on the scheduled day of the exam. Examples of valid reasons include hospital admission forms or a letter from your physician. Make-up exams may differ from the original exams by the use of short answer or essay questions. 3 Laboratory Grading Policy: Final Practical -- 30% Midterm Practical -- 30% Quizzes -- 30% Participation -- 10% There are no make-up exams or quizzes allowed. The lowest quiz score will be dropped. The textbook and laboratory manual are required, and must be brought to each laboratory session. Laboratory attendance is mandatory, if you cannot attend a lab section check with your laboratory instructor and reschedule your lab with another instructor. You must attend the laboratory section you have registered for, if you attend any other section without prior approval of both sections TA's you will not receive credit for the lab. If any of these procedures are not followed you will not get credit for that lab. If one laboratory section is missed you will be notified by the instructor, if a second laboratory section is missed a meeting will be called between you, the lab instructor and the course instructor. Missing a third laboratory section will result in a failing grade in the laboratory section of this course. No model(s) or equipment are allowed to be removed from the Human Anatomy & Physiology Laboratory for any reason. Withdrawing from the Course If you decide that you cannot continue in the course, DO NOT JUST STOP COMING TO CLASS. You must officially withdraw through the UNLV Registrar's Web Page at Please observe the final date to withdraw from classes. If you do not officially drop the course, your official transcript may show a failing grade (F). The instructor will not withdraw any student past the deadline. UNLV Policy Statements Students are expected to read the UNLV Policy Statements in the UNLV Undergraduate Catalog at The following are excerpts from some of the policy statements: Academic Honesty - No form of academic dishonesty is acceptable. The Instructor also reserves the right to give a failing grade for the entire course and/or refer the student for disciplinary action. Copyright - The University requires all members of the University Community to familiarize themselves and to follow copyright and fair use requirements. You are individually and solely responsible for violations of copyright and fair use laws. The University will neither protect nor defend you nor assume any responsibility for employee or student violations of fair use laws. It shall be the responsibility of the student to notify the instructor no later than the last day of late registration of his or her intention to participate in religious holidays which do not fall on state holidays or periods of class recess.
