No candidate can be permitted to use more than one language (Gujarati, English or Hindi, as the case may be) as a medium of examination in any subject irrespective of the fact whether the subject comprises of one paper or more. Incomplete applications and those received after the prescribed date are likely to be rejected. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS 1. Applications in the prescribed form for Registration and Examination together with the required certificates (along with their certified copies) duly filled in to be sent to the Registrar, Gujarat University, Ahmedabad by Registered Post or handed over to the University Office personally so as to reach not earlier than and not later than No application received after will be acceptable. The University will in no way be responsible for loss of applications or certificates sent by ordinary post. An incomplete application will not be entertained and the fees, if paid, will be refunded at his cost as per relevant Ordinance of the University and no further correspondence in that behalf will be entertained. 2. Registration is to be made afresh every year for each examination, viz., M.A. Part-I/M.A. Part- II. The candidates who register their names as external students for any of these examinations in any year and have either not appeared or have appeared and failed at the examination are required to get their names registered afresh and pay required fees again in accordance with the rules made in that behalf. 3. The fresh candidates as well as the repeater candidates have pay the full amount of Rs. 600/- only (Registration fees Rs Examination fees Rs. 350 including Marks Statement fees). The fee is to be paid in cash at the University counter or by a demand draft in favour of Registrar, Gujarat University, Ahmedabad The particular of the remittance must also be clearly mentioned in the Registration form. Money order will not be accepted in any circumstances. 4. The original certificates sent with application for Registration will be returned to the candidates only with the letter intimating Registration. Candidates who require them early or likely to need them for the purpose of employment etc., are requested to keep with them few extra certified copies attested by a Government Gazetted Officer for the possible use.

3 M.A.-I 3 5. A person who has passed B.A. or B.A. (Ext.) Degree Examination of this University or an examination recognised by this University as eqivalent thereto, shall be held eligible for registration as an external candidate for the M.A. Part I and M.A. Part II Examination, provided he/she is EITHER ( a ) a Graduate in Arts (holding a B.A. Degree) with Gujarati as his mother-tongue. OR ( b ) a Graduate in Arts who though his mother-tongue is not Gujarati, has been residing in the Gujarat State for a continuous period of not less than one year immediately preceding the date fixed as the last date for receiving applications for such Registration. 6. A person who has passed M.A. or M.A. (Ext.) Degree Examination of this University shall be held eligible for registration as an external candidate for the M.A. Part I examination with subject(s) other than this subjects with which he has already passed his M.A. Degree Examination. 7. A candidate for the M.A. (External) Degree Examination shall first pass the M.A. Part I Examination, for being held eligible to appear for the M.A. (External) Part II Examination at least one year thereafter, provided that he is duly registered for the purpose as required under the relevant rules of the University. The Registration fee, examination fee and fee for the markstatement shall be paid in one single instalment for each part of the Examination. 8. The official intimation of Registration will be sent to every candidate latest by the end of March, provided the required formalities regarding Registration are completed with. The candidates are, therefore, requested to wait till the stipulated date, and should not send any reminder regarding registration till that date. 9. The scheme of subjects and courses and standard of passing at the M.A. Part I and Part II examinations are the same as those for regular students. External students are not allowed to offer Islamic Culture and subjects in which practical work is involved. Entire Statistics and Geography are not allowed to be offered by external students as they involve laboratory work. 10. The candidates for M.A. (External) Degree Examination can offer only those subjects with which they have passed their B.A. Degree Examination. They will not be allowed to select any other subject in place thereof. Request for exemption from this clause shall in no case be entertained. Those candidates who have passed the Bachelor Degree Examination at least with Second Class will be allowed to offer any subject or subjects as per the scheme of subjects prescribed for M.A. External Examination. 11. The Scheme of the subjects that can be offered is as under : Subject to the provison herein after contained and consistent with the rule governing the choice of subjects as contained in the relevant regulation, it will be permissible for a candidate to offer any two languages, one of them being a Principal subject and the other as a Subordinate one. There will be three papers in the Principal language subject and one paper in the Subordinate language subject in each part of the two Examinations : Provided That ( 1 ) Candidate shall be allowed to offer either Sanskrit or English or Hindi or Gujarati as an entire subject. ( 2 ) Candidate shall be allow to offer two paper in Social Sciences group ie. if he/she offers eighter History & Sociology as Group is caller to offer two paper of History & two paper of Sociology ( 3 ) Candidate shall be allow to offer eighter History, Economics, Sociology, Philosophy, Psychology, Politics as an entire Subject. 12. Candidates are not required to pay any other fees at the time of appearing at the examination. They are however required to keep with them the Registration fee receipt issued in their favour by the University and it should be shown to the Supervisor when asked for in the examination hall. In the absence of the fee receipt they will not be allowed to appear at the examination. Separate admission cards are not issued by the University. 13. Candidate will be required to submit their recent pass-port-size photograph duly attested by a member of the University Court or the Principal of a college affiliated to this University or by the head of a recognised institution or a University Department or a Gazetted Officer of at least Grade II or a Magistrate alongwith the application for registration.

4 M.A.-I The candidates may, at their option, use English or Hindi or Gujarati as a medium of examination. It will, however, not be permissible for a candidate to use more than one of these languages as a medium of examination. 15. A candidate must choose his subject after very careful consideration. No request for a change of subjects shall be entertained after the application for registration is submitted. 16. M.A. Part I and M.A. Part II Examination will be held at Ahmedabad only. Examination programme, showing the dates of examinations etc. will be sent by ordinary post to the candidates at their addresses given in their application for registration at least a fortnight before the date of commencement of the Examination. The time table for the M.A. External Examination will be the same as for M.A. Regular students. 17. The M.A. Part I and Part II examinations will be held ordinarily in the last week of March in accordance with the dates shown in the table for the commencement of examinations under the relevant Ordinances. It may however be altered on sufficient reasons by the Executive Council of this University. 18. Along with the application for Registration, the candidate is required to enclose the statement of marks obtained at the degree examination and a copy of the degree certificate duly certified. 19. Candidates can avail themselves of the reading & landing facilities at the University Library by enrolling themselves as regular readers on such terms & conditions as may be prescribed by authorities of the University Library. Information for this purpose can be had from the Librarian of the Gujarat University Library, Ahmedabad The candidates are requested to note that the University will not intimate to them their examination seat numbers by post. The seat numbers will be available at the places of examination and at the University office by about four days before the commencement of the examination. 21. The candidates who are migrating from other Universities are also required to send their Migration Certificates of the Universities in addition to the certificate stated above. 22. Candidates whose mother-toungue is not Gujarati are required to enclose in affidavit on a required stamp-paper of the Government regarding their residence as prescribed in the specimen given in the application form for Registration. Request for exemption from this clause shall in no case be entertained. 23. Provisional Passing Certificate will be issued free of charge for the first time to those who pass the examination. On their applying, and giving full particulars as to the Seat number, Centre, Year of passing, etc., a duplicate certificate will be issued on payment of Rs. 5. Degree Certificate will also be issued, if the candidate applies with necessary fees for the convocation for notice due which will be notified in the newspaers from time to time. 24. Candidates are requested to read these instructions carefully before sending their application for Registration for M.A. Part I or M.A. Part II, as the case may be. O. M.A. Ext. 5 : A fresh or repeater candidate desiring registration for M.A. (External), Part I or Part II, as the case may be, shall apply in the form prescribed in this behalf by the University together with Rs. 600 only. (Note : Fees for Eligibility Certificate shall be payable separately as per University rules.) O. M.A. Ext. 6 : The fees prescribed for being registered once paid by a candidate shall be refunded as under : ( 2 ) "If a candidate expires prior to the date of commencement of the examination, full fees shall be refunded to the first claimant, being his kith and kin at his cost". O. 129-B : No application for admission to any of the various examinations (Regular or External) and no application for admission to a degree or a diploma either in person or in absentia shall ordinarily be entertained, provided that the Registrar may, in his discretion, accept such application if it is received within not more than two weeks, or fourteen days after the prescribed date on the applicant paying a late fee or Rs. 10 (ten rupees) only in such cases. They will be allowed to appear at the examination only on production of the said fee receipt. Separate admission cards are not issued by this office. (2) Their examination seat numbers will be available at the University office and places of examination by about four days before the commencement of the examination. Seat numbers are not intimated to the candidates individually by the University office.
