10 Portfolio Maarten Tierens Orthogonal spiral: A magically circulating family house where private space and public space are interacting. The family can enter the vertical circulation from the enclosed garden on groundlevel. The public can travel to the public rooftop by walking on the staircases roof. 2006

12 Portfolio Maarten Tierens 3d²: Land is expensive and the sky is the limit. We live in a horizontal world and cities expand in this way. According to Buckmister Fuller we should be able to expand not only in a traditional direction but even more in 3d². This is a city expansion model that grows in 3 directions. 22 Portfolio Maarten Tierens Rooftopfarming: A public rooftop farm in combination with small housing boxes. The inhabitants are isolated and connected to the city of Brussels and the canal at the same time. The rather flat roofs in the back provide opportunity for a greening community layer. 2009

The Ivy Injection shows why not to go for vertical farming but a mixed approach as minimal as possible to help existing buildings and existing cities to keep on breathing, living, eating, relaxing etc. 2010

Well, you spirally cut the plate, so maximal use of material strenght is shown, space is created and a dialog with the surrounding becomes possible. Simple but clever. 44 Portfolio Maarten Tierens Zaventem silenced: Several architecture students of the 5th year were graduating with a design of a new airport for Zaventem, we were given as firt year students the same excersize. I came up with an airport as a silencer on a noiceproducing gun and shooting the planes as a start, the most significant noise problem existed when planes take off and land.
