Part of the discussion will focus on how MERLIN assists Education in Manitoba and what teachers and staff can do to keep themselves safe. We will also look at IT careers in the growing area of Technology Security. Sisler Cyber defence Sisler High School Charles Bazilewich This workshop will discuss Manitoba s first High School Network and Cyber Security Academy that delivers CCNA Routing and Switching, CCNA Security, Cyber Security and Computer Science courses which position students for employment and advanced post secondary opportunities. The work shop will highlight the success of the academy in achieving 3 consecutive CyberPatirot appearances. CyberPatriot is an International High School Cyber Defence competition sponsored by the Air Force Association, Northrup Grumman, and the Department of Homeland Security. This interactive workshop will apply learning activities exposing participants to high school appropriate training methodologies used to prepare students for cyber security competitions and common threat and vulnerability analysis procedures. FIT Certification ICTC Tracy Biernacki Dusza & Cam Mateika The Focus on Information Technology (FIT) program was developed by the Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC) to help encourage students to consider a career in ICT. FIT is a unique program, integrated into Ministry curriculum, that enables secondary students to learn real IT and business skills while fostering a passion for ICT. Learn about the National FIT Standards and concentrations, how you may already be teaching them and why it is important for your students to have the industry validated skills that they need. Redundancy in a Layer 2 Switch Fabric Spanning Tree and EtherChannel William McBride & Gursharn Wander Network redundancy is a key to maintaining network reliability. Multiple cabled paths between switches provide physical redundancy in a switched network. This improves the reliability and availability of the network. When physical redundancy is introduced into a design, switching loops and duplicate frames occur causing broadcast storms. The Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) and link aggregation, such as EtherChannel were developed to provide the required redundancy without the switching loop problems. Rise Above The Crowd: Business Administrative Assistant Program and E Portfolios WTC Justin Pasosky & Allison Trinidad As an introduction, guests will be introduced to The Business Administrative Program from one of the college s instructors and three of our current students speaking in regards to what we offer, how we provide success for graduating students and who we cater to. The presentation will specifically focus on the increasing use of e portfolios that are becoming popular replacing traditional paper versions as a supplementary for interviews. This tool can be used for an applicant to Rise Above The Crowd and show why they are different than the other applicants. We will also discuss the pros and cons and where and how they can be generated. Guests will be provided with a current e portfolio presentation from one of the students and guests will walk away not only knowing more about e portfolios, but how they can implement them into their personal and professional life.

5 Career Paths at Winnipeg Technical College WTC Dennie Espina, Narinder Dhillon and Allison Trinidad Dennie and Narinder, current students of the WTC Business Administrative Assistant program will provide an overview of how this experience has prepared them with the technical and practical skills necessary to be successful in today s varied and fast paced administrative environment. Allison, will continue the conversation as she presents on the creation of an eportfolio, which provides a snapshot of her skills attained for prospective employers.
