1 Chappel CV 1 Dorothy Chappel, Ph.D Nices Hollow Road Phone: Jersey Shore, PA Cell: dlchappel@gmail.com Employment History Jersey Shore Area School District/Jersey Shore, PA Superintendent July Present Assistant Superintendent March 2012-July 2013 Second in command of a 375 square mile rural school district with 400 plus employees (200 plus professional staff) with an annual budget of approximately 40 million dollars Work with the board of education, superintendent of schools, principals, subject area supervisors, faculty and community residents, as appropriate, in developing the general philosophy, goals and policies of the instructional program Provide supervision and evaluation of district personnel and in the operation of the school pursuant to the identification of and the addressing of school, staff, and students needs regarding the development, implementation, and assessment of curriculum and professional staff development activities Lead personnel to ensure the understanding of and the promotion of the educational objectives of the district Work with administrators and faculty in organizing and coordinating appropriate grade level and department meetings as well as special committees, in order to affect horizontal and vertical continuity and articulation of the instruction programs (K-12) throughout the district Assist the superintendent and work with appropriate district personnel in the development of district policies and regulations for the smooth implementation of instructional programs and ensure proper and consistent implementation of such policies and regulations Recruit, screen, train, and assign instructional personnel Oversee the development and implementation of a comprehensive program for the assessment of personnel, instruction, and curriculum including the observation and evaluation of designated personnel Demonstrate leadership in assessing needs, planning, administering and evaluating a multifaceted in-service education program for the administrative, instructional, and support staff in the district Supervise the actions of administrators, teachers, and faculty committees in developing and implementing the curriculum for all levels of student ability Negotiate terms and conduct meetings to develop and maintain Education Association, Act 93 (Administrative), and Classified Staff contracts and Memorandums of Understanding (MOAs)
2 Chappel CV 2 Supervise the process pursuant to the development of curriculum documents and related materials prepared by personnel Supervise the process pursuant to the selection of textbooks and instructional materials for the district in cooperation with building principals, subject area supervisors, and faculty Keep informed of developments in curriculum and demonstrate leadership implementing appropriate instructional materials, strategies and programs in the district Serve as district representative to various county, state, and national curriculum associations and committees Demonstrate leadership in implementing a comprehensive ongoing program for communicating with a variety of audiences about district programs, student achievement and faculty accomplishments and presenting a positive image of the schools throughout the community, county and state Interpret the present curriculum changes to the board of education, the administration, the staff and the general public Prepare application for, and utilization of, various grants and federal allocations (Title/Perkins/NCLB (ESEA)/IDEA) that enrich the curriculum and instruction Ensure that all district curriculums have been approved by the board of education in accordance with state regulation and district needs Work directly with the supervisory of student services/special education to ensure compliance of federal mandates Directly supervise all department coordinators Coordinate and conduct safety drills and disaster simulations to ensure all protocols are in place in the event of an emergency Director of Career and Technical Education July 2001 Present Implement and maintain an effective and efficient Career and Technical Education program in the district: Chapter 339 Approved Program Evaluation (May, 2006) Report: The school has a model program and much to be proud of as documented by the commendations.
