1 DESIGNING YOUR WEBSITE All music majors are required to have their own music website. This website functions as a portfolio and shows potential employers what you have accomplished as a performer, educator, and entrepreneur. The following guide will show you how to setup your music website using 1. Go to in your web browser. 2. Enter your name (first and last), address, and password in the sign up box to sign up for your FREE web hosting. 3. You will now begin to set up your website. A box will prompt you to Enter a Title for Your Website and choose your Type of Site. The website title will be displayed the top of each page of your website. The Type of Site function allows you to fit your website into one of several predetermined categories. For this website, select personal as your type of site. 4. You will then Choose Your Website Domain. The website domain is the address you will use to get to your website. Choose the first option in the Choose Your Website Domain window (Figure 1): Figure 1 NOTE: Using a subdomain of Weebly.com is the only option that is free. Your web address will be At a later date, you may decide to have your

2 own domain. This will require a yearly fee, but will make your web address 5. The website editor will now open and display your website. Click on the Design tab in the top left corner of the editor (Figure 2). Figure 2 a. The Design tab will give you a series of preset website layouts that you may apply to your site. Click on a layout and it will be applied to your website (Figure 3). Figure 3 NOTE: When choosing a layout you are looking for the overall design. The pictures, font, and color can be changed by adjusting the settings in the Design Options tab (See arrow in Figure 3). 6. Click on the Elements tab (Figure 4). Figure 4 a. The elements tab allows you to add text, pictures, and other multimedia to your webpage. b. Adding Text: drag and drop one of the following boxes onto your page. (Figure 5) Figure 5 A textbox will then appear on your page. Click on the textbox to edit its text.

3 c. Adding a Single Picture: drag and drop one of the following boxes onto your page. (Figure 6) Figure 6 Click on the Sample Picture that appears on your page. A box will appear to help you choose your image. Click the large green bar to upload a picture from your computer. Click Search to search for pictures provided by Weebly. Click Image URL to use a picture from the internet. NOTE: Not all pictures provided by Weebly are free. 7. Click on the Multimedia tab (Figure 7). Figure 7 a. Adding Multiple Pictures: drag and drop one of the following boxes onto your page. (Figure 8) Figure 8 Click on your gallery or slideshow and a window will appear to upload your pictures. NOTE: The only way to add pictures to a Photo Gallery and Slideshow is by uploading them from your computer. b. Adding a Link to a File: drag and drop the File icon onto your page. 4 Click on the document icon that appears on your webpage. You will now be asked to select the file you wish to link to. (Figure 10) Figure 10 NOTE: All documents uploaded to your website should be PDF s. These file types cannot be edited by the viewer. Any.doc,.docx,.xls,.xlsx, etc. file can be edited by the viewer. c. Embedding a Video-drag and drop the YouTube Video icon onto your page. (Figure 11) *See page 6 for information on how to upload a video to YouTube* Figure 11 Click on the sample video and you will be asked for your video URL, video size, and video position (Figure 12) 8. Type a name for your page and then click the Save Setting button (Figure 15) Figure 15 NOTE: A link to your new page will automatically appear on your website when you go back to the page editor. Click the link to edit your new page. 9. You have now learned the basic to designing a website through Weebly.com. When you have successfully made your website you will be ready to publish it. Click the publish button in the top right corner of the webpage editor. (Figure 16). Figure 16 NOTE: Once your website is published anyone will be able to view it by typing the web address into their address bar. You may edit a published website at any time. Open the website editor, make your changes, then click the publish button to add those changes to your published website. 6 HOW TO UPLOAD A VIDEO TO YOUTUBE The following tutorial will show you how to create a YouTube account and upload a video to YouTube. 1. Go to 2. If you already have a YouTube account or a Google account you can sign in by clicking Sign In in the top right corner of the screen 3. To create a new YouTube account click Create Account 4. 7 6. When you are logged in, click the Upload button in the top right corner of the screen. (Figure 3) Figure 3 7. Click the yellow Upload Video button on the middle of your screen. Your pages could be labeled by category (ex: Home, Performance, Educator, and Entrepreneur) or by content (ex: Bio, Repertoire List, Arrangements, and Lesson Plans).
