2 Properties and application areas The MP 41.2 of the PowerLine series is a plastic cable drag chain designed for extreme applications with respect to load and service life. The main application areas are in mechanical engineering and plant construction as well as in materials handling (crane building). By consistently applying the FEM method, an optimal balance between high rigidity and low chain weight was able to be achieved. The exceptional property of this chain is the highly rigid connection between the side links. A great deal of attention was paid to the ease of installation when further developing the MP 41 to version MP It goes without saying that both versions are fully compatible with each other to facilitate the interchangeability of components. A considerable reduction in installation time of up to 50 percent (see REFA study) as compared to traditional systems on the market has been achieved with the new frame ridge lock and the greatly improved opening and closing system of the cable drag chain. The collapsible shelving system that additionally simplifies installing multiple levels on top of each other due to insertion of the shelves during fabrication positively distances itself from traditional, inconvenient systems of this size. Optimised chain brackets with permanent extrusion-coated metal bushes including optional through-hole (variant KA-FB) or integrated thread (variant KA-FG) guarantee, in conjunction with frame ridge strain relief plates (RS-ZL) or C-profile rails, a highly rigid chain connection coupled with simultaneous strain relief. 6 Self-supporting length The MP 41.2 is predestined for dynamic applications with very high speeds and acceleration due to its relatively low weight and extreme rigidity. A "self-supporting" chain arrangement the most common of all setups is used for high speeds because no additional friction is caused. Here, a distinction is made between the following installation situations which are relevant to the service life. FL g : The range in which the upper run is still biased, straight or has a maximum sag of 40 mm. This situation is optimal with respect to service life and unrolling characteristics. FL b: The range in which the upper run has a maximum sag between 40 and 80 mm. This application presents no problems in the majority of situations. Only with very great accelerations (> 1.5 g) and high travel frequency can problems arise. If the sag is greater than FLb, the arrangement is critical and should be avoided. The flow of forces in the side links is not optimal and failure cannot be ruled out. Should a chain exceed the maximum permitted sag after a very long period of use, replacement is strongly advised.
