1 Google Analytics Webinar, 1/8/2015 Before we get started, can everyone hear us well? How is the audio? Hello all, thanks for joining us. Today we will be sharing how to access website statistics about your sites. For example the number of people visiting your websites and how that number changes over time. For those of you who haven't joined the Drupal Website Webinar Series before, I'd like to share a little about this series. This series is presented by Victor Villegas and Tamara Hill Tanquist: Victor works at ECTU (Extension Computing Technology Unit), he provides support and training for maintenance of OSU Extension and AES websites along with other technology support. Tamara works at EESC (Extension and Experiment Station Communications), my role is planning, designing and developing OSU Extension and AES websites This is the 7th webinar of this series. We record the webinars and make them available on the "Drupal & Web Help" site: help Previous webinars include, Drupal Basics 101, Writing for the web, Search Engine Optimization We focus on topics to help the people who are managing content on the sites EESC has created. These are primarily OSU Extension and AES websites. Sometimes our webinars are specific to our Drupal theme which makes the webinar less applicable for those not using our theme. This is an example of our theme: Other times our topics are broad enough to include other audiences (like today's webinar) Game plan Today I'm going to walk through the items you are most likely to want to use, for example: Number of page visits Number of document downloads Number of times people visit your site from social media How to set up a Google Analytics report Then I will give you a brief overview of other available statistics

Getting access to Google Analytics Victor can provide access to Google Analytics for your sites, just shoot him an To check to see if you have access, login to Google Analytics with your ONID For those of you who were given access before OSU added Google accounts, try accessing Google Analytics with your personal Gmail account Victor is also your contact for Google Analytics questions Login to Google Analytics data Visit: Click: "Access Google Analytics (top right corner) Sign in with your ONID and password If you have a personal Gmail account and login to Google Analytics it may try to log you in using your personal . Options: Sign out of your Gmail account first, then log back in with your ONID info: Or visit Google Analytics in a different browser (Chrome or Firefox) Or use an private / incognito window to visit Google Analytics Navigating Google Analytics You can Browse or Search for sites. Browse Because we manage over 70 sites, we have the sites in folders to make them easier for us to find. Most of the sites you will be looking for are under "County and AES sites" or "Extension Programs" folders. For a county site: Click "County and AES sites" Scroll until you find your site Click the name of your site (it will have a world icon next to it) Search In the search bar, start typing the site name, for example: coos Click the gray highlighted row with your site's name Google Analytics interface Top nav: home, reporting, customization, admin Side nav: statistics for this site

3 GA search: sometimes you know the name of the report you want, but not where it is located this will help Try searching for social Page Views Top pages people are visiting Visit Behavior > Overview This gives you a list of the top 10 visited pages, total page views, etc. Visitors in a particular site section For example: Question of the week Click Behavior > Site Content > Content Drilldown Drill down to the section of the site you would like to view (look at URL to get this path): question of the week We see all the pages under this page AND totals for all pages in this section Select the date range On the top right, enter the desired date range Change the date in the text field Click Apply Can also select: Date Range: Today, Yesterday, Last week, Last Month, Last 7 days, Last 30 days Can compare to past data Note: You will only have data when Google Analytics has been active on your site. For most of sites we manage that will be at least 3 years of data. If there is a huge amount of data, Google will use a sampling of the data. If we look at the OSU Extension site for the past 5 years, you'll see we get sampling of the data. Google will let us know when this happens. Day Week Month Sometimes it is easier to read the date if you change it to week instead of day Get more info on categories Google Analytics is providing Can mouse over: Titles and get a description for what they are Dots on a graph show exact numbers

4 Downloaded files Visit Behavior > Events > Top Events In the main content area, click Downloads Click desired file type, for example PDF Note: these statistics are only for files that live on your site, not files link from other sites. Annotate Date related Information For example, mark when you announced a new publication or make a lot of changes to the website. Pull up any Google Analytics page for your site (main Ext) Click the down arrow Click "+ Create new annotation" Select the appropriate date In the text field, add the description. For example Announced new epub EM 1644 Visibility: select Shared Click Save Note: Change the date range to include multiple years to see more annotations. Engagement Number of times people visit your site from social media Visit: Acquisition > Social > Network Referrals Click into the Social Media platform for more details Set up a Google Analytics report Find statistics you would like to add to a monthly report Top pages visited this month Click Behavior > Site Content > All Pages Click blue "Page Title" link (displays the page titles instead of URLs) Show rows: select 25 Change date set: check "compare to past" Create report Click (towards top of page) To: your (more can be added later) Subject: Google Analytics for OSU Extension in Washington County Attachments: PDF (my personal preference) Frequency: monthly

5 Day of week: M Advanced > active for: select 12 months Message: These are Google Analytics reports. They were set up 1/7/2015 and will expire unless renewed by 1/6/2016. Click Send Add a report for traffic from Facebook To add traffic from Facebook: Click: Acquisition > Social > Network Referrals Click: Facebook Show rows: select 25 Date comparison: turn off Add the second report To add the report to existing report: Click Click "Add to an existing " Navigate to the desired report and check it Click Save Add additional recipients Click Admin Scheduled s (bottom right) May need to scroll up to see list Click the report "Google Analytics for OSU Extension in Washington County" Add additional recipients, click Save Extend for another 12 months Click Admin > Scheduled s (bottom right) (May need to scroll up to see list) Click Actions Select Extend, click Extend Drupal 7 When you look around your Google Analytics site profile, you will run into options that we are not using. Some of them we will gain access to when we switch to Drupal 7.
