1 HORNSBY GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL CAREERS BULLETIN Issue February 2012 WELCOME AGAIN Welcome to the second edition of the careers bulletin. The information contained in these editions are selected from mhscareers.com to which the school subscribes. Other information is included as it becomes available either through personal contacts with universities or by various other means such as snail mail or . I hope that students & parents find these useful. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like clarification of any items mentioned in these bulletins. All year 10 students were given their Work Experience documentation during the year meeting held last Tuesday. All documentation is also contained on the school Moodle site. If any year 10 student wishes to obtain a Work Experience placement with Westmead hospital, applications close 30 March Year 12 students who are thinking of applying for a medical degree in 2013 will need to complete the Undergraduate Medical Admissions Test (UMAT) on 25 July More information is contained in this bulletin. To operate most effectively in these career areas graduates will need to be flexible; to have good thinking skills (critical and analytical); to be able to respond quickly to new situations and problems; and to have a well developed ability to understand and respond to patients needs and individual situations. For these reasons UMAT has been developed as a test that is not based on learned academic curriculum or study of particular subjects, but as a test of your response to stimulus that will not necessarily be familiar.
