1 The Association of Operations Management: Advancing Productivity, Innovation, and Competitive Success PDM Dinner Meeting Do You Want To Keep Working After Retirement? Tuesday, November 20, 2007 Our Speaker: Karen Hess, CIRM (See Bio on page 2) With Social Security ranging from $ per month, many seniors today are being forced to work to make ends meet. Let's face it; how many times have you walked into a fast-food shop or retailer to find someone who should be retired working behind the counter? Inside this Issue. Calendar 2 Could this be you? It could be if you don't address your retirement savings strategies now. Speaker Bio 2 This presentation will show you how long average retirement savings for year olds will provide income for these seniors after retirement at their current savings rate.. For 30-year olds, this presentation will demonstrate the importance of saving early. But regardless of your current age, this presentation will educate you and provide the incentive you need to make changes in your retirement savings plan. You will also learn about the key decision points to address your retirement savings strategy. APICS Supply Chain Against Hunger Company Coordinators 3 4 Before you leave, you will have online calculator tools to help you (and your spouse) evaluate your own retirement savings plans so that you can take corrective action if needed. You will also get other references you can pursue to help you make more educated choices about your retirement strategy. This is a no-nonsense, straight-forward presentation, without technical terms, about what you need to do to plan for retirement. 2 Speaker s Bio: Karen Hess Karen is Past President of the Sacramento APICS chapter after having served more than 17 years in volunteer positions. She holds a BS in Business Administration along with multiple classes after graduation in operations management, purchasing, and information technology. After working for Hewlett-Packard for 14 years, Ms Hess found herself at another crossroad in life and spent several months evaluating where she has been and where she wanted to go next. Helping people with their retirement savings strategies seemed to be the right way to go since so many friends had requested her assistance in this area. "APICS has been all about managing resources, and managing financial resources is no different than managing multi-million dollar inventories", Ms Hess said. Calendar November, Board of Directors meeting 6, 13, 20, 27 Webinar: Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) How-Tos; 1:00 pm EDT; John R. Dougherty, CFPIM, Partners for Excellence; Level: Intermediate 20 Professional Development Meeting During her career, Karen noticed that management seemed to assign her to financial roles within the companies she worked. After leaving HP and a financial role there, it seemed natural that she would take the experience she had gained and use it in a new financial capacity. You can read more about Karen's opinions about retirement savings at her new blog at < sacvalleyretirement.blogspot.com/> Ms Hess says that people have always asked her about their financial matters and shared very personal data with her knowing the information would never be breached. It is this sense of confidentiality that has built up within her network that she knows will help as others refer people to her for business. Karen lives in Yuba City near her mother and has 2 loving cats. She has longstanding relationships with local nonprofits dealing with animals and is currently the IT Advisor for < an animal disaster group.
