1 July 2010 June 2011 The following pages list all available classes offered through the Business Technology Training Coordinator for July 2010 through June All classes are free and are available to any eligible staff or faculty employed by the University of the Pacific. All classes that are listed will be held in the HR Training Room on the Stockton campus. If you have any questions feel free to contact Kim Cose at or IMPORTANT Registration requests are not confirmed until a confirmation message is received from the Business Technology Training Coordinator indicating class, date, time and location OR you ve been placed on the waiting list. Ten (10) participants is the maximum number of participants for each class. The registration system displays 15 seats available for each class. Due to cancellations and no shows, the extra 5 seats provide the instructor with a waiting list. All classes must have a minimum of 5 participants, otherwise the class will be cancelled All registration requests are first come, first served. How to Register The table below provides the steps to register for a class. Step Action 1. Log in to InsidePacific and go to the Faculty/Staff Development Online Registration channel. 2. Click: Enter on the channel description 3. Select: the class you want to enroll in 4. Click: Enroll button at bottom of page 5. The registration system sends a confirmation after the participant submits a registration request via the Online Registration System. 6. Registration requests are not definite until a confirmation message is received from the Business Technology Training Coordinator indicating class, date, time and location OR you ve been placed on the waiting list. How to Cancel Class the Business Technology Training Coordinator at Techtraining@pacific.edu with the class name, date and time 2-3 days prior to class. Page 1 of 7
2 Outlook 2007 Calendar The Outlook calendar is more than just an electronic communication tool; it is one of the most widely used tools in Outlook. You ll create and reschedule a single appointment and recurring appointments, add a reminder to your appointments and schedule meetings with multiple participants. We ll also take a look at color coding calendar items. Date: August 4, 2010 Time: 8:30 10:30 Date: March 16, 2011 Outlook 2007 Tips n Tricks It s always the little things in life that add up. This class brings together what might be considered the little things. You ll practice recalling a message, using the Out of Office Assistant and how about stationery and themes to dress up those messages! Have you ever wanted to draft an , save it so it can be sent at a later date and time, only to forget about the you already created? You ll learn how to delay sending an message among other things. Date: October 6, 2010 Date: June 9, 2011 Outlook 2007 Organizing Information Do papers and files tend to pile up on your desk and become messy? The same thing happens after you ve worked with Outlook for a while your s, tasks, and appointments start becoming disorganized and harder to find. In this class you ll discover how to take control and organize your information using some of the Outlook features such as task lists, assigning tasks, categories, folders and more. 3 Outlook 2007 Open Lab Have you been trying to use a particular Outlook feature and can t quite figure it out? Have you wanted to try a new feature but weren t sure where and how to start? This is your class! Register for the first ever Outlook Open Lab time! The open lab time has been structured so you can walk in anytime during the time listed below. The instructor will be available during the scheduled time to work with you one on one. Please note, you ll be sharing this time with other participants who ll be using the open lab time. Pre-Requisite: Please notify the instructor in advance of the feature you would like to work with to allow time for research, if necessary. Date: October 13, 2010 Time: 9:30 1:30 Outlook 2007 Templates Are there certain messages that you send on a regular basis? Maybe it s a weekly status report or a staff meeting agenda. Outlook allows you to compose and save a message as a template and reuse it whenever you need it. This class will uncover the basics of creating Outlook Templates. Date: March 9, 2011 Outlook 2007 Meeting Management Have you ever been invited to or attended a meeting without an agenda? Have you attended meetings in which appropriate participants are missing, or the meeting objective is unclear? Unfortunately this tends to be the norm rather than the exception. Statistics show the workplace professional can spend up to 43% of their time in meetings without achieving the desired result! The intention of this class is to discover how to leverage technology such as Outlook to electronically schedule meetings, set meeting expectations as well as learn some tips and tricks for meeting management. Pre-Requisite: Must be familiar with Outlook calendar and meeting requests Date: April 13, 2011 Page 3 of 7
4 What s New in Office 2007 Are you using Office 2007 and wondering where things went? The menu bar and the toolbar have left the office and the Ribbon has arrived! In this 2 hour session you ll discover how and why functions are grouped. You ll use Word, Excel and Outlook and examine and work with some of the new functions such as live preview. You ll also discover how easy it is to customize the Quick Access Toolbar. Date: September 16, 2010 Date: January 19, 2011 Banner 8 Fundamentals If you re new to Banner this hands-on class will familiarize you with the Banner log-on process, navigation between forms and how to query (find) data in Banner. What you learn in this class can be applied to all Banner modules as this is not module specific training. All attendees have the option to preview the Banner 8 Fundamentals Computer Based Training (CBT) prior to attending class. The CBT is located in InsidePacific and must be downloaded (saved) to your local computer. NOTE: If you were a user on the Banner 7 system, it is not necessary to attend this class to be updated on the newer version. Navigating and querying did not change in Banner 8. It is also an excellent refresher for current users. Pre-Requisite: Must have a Banner user account and job function must encompass the use of Banner Date: September 14, 2010 Time: 1:00 3:00 Date: January 12, 2011 Date: April 7, 2011 Orientation to Pacific s Business Technology This class covers a variety of topics that are 'Specific to Pacific'. Some of the topics to be covered include; computer support procedures, InsidePacific usage, Locksmith, subscribing to E-News, PacificCard uses and adding money electronically and accessing Pacific when off campus. 5 Word 2007 Document Collaboration Have you ever created a draft document and gave it to an individual or a committee to review, only to have it returned full of red markings? Word 2007 offers the ability to do this electronically! You ll learn about tracking revisions, accepting or rejecting them. You ll use the comment function gone are the yellow sticky notes! Pre-Requisite: Must be a current Word user and have familiarity with the program. Date: July 14, 2010 Date: February 10, 2011 Word 2007 Mail Merge Here s a secret for you: no one manually typed your weekly Publisher s Clearing House sweepstakes letter addressed to you! A process known as mail merge has created these personalized letters. Performing a mail merge isn t a difficult process but it can be time consuming. This class will take you step-by-step through the mail merge process by creating the data source and the main document and then merging the two together. Pre-Requisite: Must be a current Word user and have familiarity with the program. Date: August 11, 2010 Date: June 8, 2011 Word 2007 Templates Want to save yourself some time but still create a great looking document? A Word template provides the shell for a various types of documents such as a memo, report, meeting notes, etc. You ll explore the many uses and styles of templates. Do you type the same text repeatedly or insert the same table or object over and over again? You ll discover how to save yourself some time by learning how to create a building block which stores frequently used text and/or graphics. 6 Word 2007 Formatting & Tables You only have one chance to make that first impression! We ll uncover the many ways to accomplish this task by utilizing different fonts, headers, footers, etc. How about the ability to present information in an organized and attractive manner, this is one of the many benefits of using tables. You ll learn how to add and delete columns/rows and format a table with borders and shading. Pre-Requisite: Must be a current Word user and have familiarity with the program. Date: March 15, 2011 Excel 2007 Pivot Tables Have you been asked to analyze your spreadsheet data in such a way that you feel like turning and running away? If so, this is the class for you! Creating a PivotTable is a great way to summarize and analyze list data. We will cover the ins and outs of PivotTables how to create them, modify their structure, and edit the data. Date: July 20, 2010 Date: April 12, 2011 Excel 2007 Functions & Formulas Excel has hundreds of different formulas and functions, some as simple as adding and subtracting or as complex as statistical, financial, and scientific calculations. The lessons learned in this class will create a basic foundation for using both formulas and functions. Some of the topics we ll cover are creating range names, AutoCalculate and error checking. Date: October 7, 2010 Date: February 9, 2011 Excel 2007 Sorting & Filtering Data Excel can store large or small amounts of information in the form of a list. Once a list is created in Excel it can be sorted and filtered to display specific information, for example a specific zip code from a list of addresses used for a mail merge. This class will demonstrate how to create a sort based on one or more criteria and be able to filter the data, regardless of size. Date: August 5, 2010 Date: April 6, 2011 Page 6 of 7
7 Excel 2007 Tips n Tricks Ever thought there must be a better way to view and work with two spreadsheets side by side? How about trying to print more data on a single piece of paper? Have you ever had to scroll through a large list of data and lost the column or row headers so you no longer know what you re looking at? This class provides answers to these questions and more! Date: February 16, 2011 Excel 2007 Working with Charts We ve all heard the saying a picture is worth a thousand words. Charts are often better at presenting information than hard-to-read numbers in a table or spreadsheet. This class will demonstrate how to create dynamic looking charts, edit and format charts, and work with different types of charts. Date: March 10, 2011 Excel 2007 Open Lab Have you been trying to use a particular Excel feature and can t quite figure it out? Have you wanted to try a new feature but weren t sure where and how to start? This is your class! Register for the first ever Excel Open Lab time! Date: July 21, 2010 Time: 8:30 12:30 PowerPoint 2007 Series This program series is a new approach to learning PowerPoint. The first session will cover the basics of creating a PowerPoint presentation. The second session will be on your own and you ll create your own presentation with the information learned in session one. The third session will consist of reviewing and refining the presentations you created and the second half of class you ll share your presentations. IMPORTANT: You must register for each session separately.
