FISCAL YEAR 2015 ANNUAL REPORT
EDUCATION HEALTH & WELLNESS YOUTH LEADERSHIP OUR MISSION Our mission is to provide a safe and nurturing environment in which youth of Oakland can feel secure as they achieve success in school while learning life skills and building self- esteem in preparation for their futures.
FROM THE DESK OF OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Dear EOBA Supporter, Currently, we are wrapping up our summer program here at the East Oakland Boxing Association. For seven weeks we have had 140 youth on site, participating in academic and enrichment activities and attending a wide range of field trips! We are proud to report that we are one of the only free summer programs in East Oakland that offers high level, structured programming to youth. When asked about the academic component of our summer program, Liliana (12 yrs.), reported, EOBA makes me push myself to keep working hard. We learn, science, math, and English. This summer, in morning academics we learned future planning. We learned that you need to go to college, get a job, and have a bank account, and pay for insurance. Our summer programs offers unique learning opportunities like this, that schools may not be able to provide, and we re proud to be able to engage youth in academics and enrichment programming during the summer so that they do not fall behind. I would also like to take a moment to reflect more broadly on our work this past fiscal year, as we are very proud of all 600 of our youth s accomplishments! In June we watched 7 of our senior interns complete their senior projects at our site and graduate from high school. In the coming fall we are excited to watch them grow as they attend CSU Stanislaus, UC Merced, Laney, and Chabot Colleges. Additionally, we brought youth on 49 field trips, ranging from backpacking to sailing, to volunteering at the Alameda County Community Food Bank! Our gym has experienced considerable growth this year as well, and both our boxing and karate programs have expanded. Our youth had the opportunity to compete in local sparring matches and karate tournaments. As always, we have successfully continued our mission of providing a safe and nurturing environment in which the youth of Oakland can feel secure as they achieve success in school while learning life skills and building self esteem in preparation for their futures. Thank you for all your support. It really makes a difference for Oakland youth! Thank you, Sarah Chavez-Yoell

LOOKING FORWARD We have a lot planned for this year. We just received the good news that our 15 year lease has been approved which means we will begin to plan for much needed capital improvements. During the fiscal year we hope to lay the groundwork for a capital campaign, which will culminate in 2017, EOBA s 30 year anniversary. To celebrate this year, we hope to bring together past and present EOBA attendees and EOBA supporters for a celebratory event. We will also be continuing to strengthen our programming this year with the assistance of multiple classes of UC Berkeley undergraduate students. Additionally, we will have more gym events on the agenda along with garden workshops! As always, we plan to serve 600 Oakland youth, and positively impact their lives by providing them with academic and enrichment opportunities. CHILDREN ARE OUR MOST VALUABLE REASOURCE. - HERBERT HOOVER
DONOR REPORT This year, key development and funding advancements included four fundraisers, the acquisition of Salesforce, and website renovations. Fundraising events included the first annual East Bay Brews and BBQ event, East Bay Gives and Make Westing fundraisers. New key partnerships included UC Berkeley and St. Mary s universities.
