Abstract Expressinism Definitin: An artistic mvement that first emerged in New Yrk after Wrld War II in which painters ften created large canvases with abstract, nnrepresentatinal frms; paint was ften applied quickly r frcefully t express feelings and emtins. Cntext: In Matisse s painting, the subject is barely recgnizable. Still, there is a drway, but his intentin is t express a md. Fifty years later the style wuld be called abstract expressinism.
