5 The chart below shows the progress you can make with a Kaplan language course. On arrival at your school, you will be given a proficiency test to enable our staff to place you in the correct class for your level of language ability. Regular progress tests during the course will then allow your teachers to monitor your level of improvement. Typically, students on an Intensive English course take just ten weeks to progress from one language level to the next. Proficiency TOEFL ibt 92+, IELTS 7.5+, CPE, CEF C2, ALTE Level 5 You are very close to native speaker fluency and can handle all complex written and spoken language. Advanced TOEFL ibt 75-91, IELTS 6.5/7.0, CAE, CEF C1, ALTE Level 4 You communicate confidently and fluently, but may lack specialist vocabulary and make some errors with complex language. Higher Intermediate TOEFL ibt 55-74, IELTS 5.0/6.0, FCE, CEF B2, ALTE Level 3 You are competent with grammar and can understand and contribute to most conversations on familiar topics, but may make some mistakes.
