2 Study at a Partner Institution International College of Management Sydney In association with strategic partner, Macquarie University, International College of Management, Sydney (ICMS) offers Master s Degrees in Commerce and International Business with electives in Marketing, Tourism and Hospitality, Sport Business Management or Management. Students enrolled in these courses can choose to take units at either Macquarie s North Ryde campus, or at ICMS in Manly. International specialisations are taught by lecturers practising in the industry, or close to the industry and classes are small and interactive. Housed in an historic, sandstone building overlooking beautiful Manly Beach, ICMS is positioned in one of Sydney s top locations. 3 Transnational (offshore) Programs In addition to offering online and distance programs, Macquarie University also offers a number of transnational, or offshore programs, which are taught face-to-face in a country outside of Australia. The degrees are taught by Macquarie University approved staff and students who take these courses graduate with a Macquarie University degree the same as students who study at Macquarie s main campus in Sydney. 4 Pathways to Master Programs For some Master programs at Macquarie, if you do not meet the direct entry requirements listed on pages 32 to 43, you may be eligible to enter the program via a pathway. You do not need to apply separately for pathway options. If you are eligible for a pathway option, when your application is assessed by Macquarie you will be provided with a package offer for the pathway program plus the Master program. Entry into the Master program will be conditional on successful completion of the pathway program, to the level of achievement outlined in your offer. 5 Pathways to Macquarie University SYDNEY INSTITUTE OF BUSINESS AND TECHNOLOGY (SIBT) Sydney Institute of Business and Technology (SIBT) has been working in partnership with Macquarie University for over twelve years. Located on the Macquarie University campus at North Ryde and at Macquarie City Campus, SIBT offers Graduate Certificates (on behalf of Macquarie University) to postgraduate students. These Graduate Certificates allow students without a background in Business, Marketing or Information Systems and Technology to articulate into the Master of Commerce (in Marketing, Business or Information Systems and Technology) or Master of International Business. The Numeracy Centre offers a number of services including a free dropin service, weekly workshops for some first-year courses, bridging programs and preparatory courses at the beginning of each semester, and some online resources. Why CME is a great place to study English Students at CME can select a disciplinespecific direct entry English course most relevant to their future study plans. The direct entry English programs have been developed in consultation with University lecturers so you will develop the language, communication and study skills to succeed in your postgraduate studies. 6 English language and numeracy Programs CME s direct entry English programs are recognised as official entry pathways to Macquarie and SIBT, so when you pass your direct entry course you do not need to sit an IELTS or TOEFL examination to enter university. By studying at CME on campus you will feel part of the University from the first day of your Orientation program. All CME teachers are highly qualified, and many are IELTS examiners. Course fees include all learning materials including those available on CME Online, and those in our well-equipped library. Free tutorials are provided for students identified as needing extra tuition. You can participate in regular social events and activities, such as dance parties, barbecues, and football matches, and you ll make friends with other students from around the world. We will help you choose the best course to meet your needs. CME English courses range from five to forty weeks, and as well as Academic English programs, students can study General English courses. Group study tours can also be arranged. Do you need to take the IELTS Test? Before you leave home you can enrol in one of CME s acclaimed web based IELTS online courses: IELTS Master and IELTS Express. These courses include practice IELTS tests, guided learning materials based on IELTS test items and test taking tips. The Speaking and Writing modules of the IELTS Master courses provide online tutors. 7 Research Pathways Macquarie University is a leader in providing unique research opportunities. For students intending to enter into PhD programs, the simplest path is to choose a Master degree with a 25 per cent research component (usually a dissertation). If your selected Master program does not have this option, consider the alternative pathways available at Macquarie. Macquarie University Research Excellence Scholarships (MQRES) These scholarships are made available to fund postgraduate research students of exceptional research promise as they undertake their postgraduate research in the University s identified Concentrations of Research Excellence (COREs). International applicants will receive tuition funding for the tenure of their award (up to three and a half years). Research students at Macquarie are also eligible for Endeavour International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (E-IPRS). These tuition-only awards, sponsored by the Australian Government, are limited in number and attract considerable competition. In addition to the usual direct entry PhD, Macquarie University also encourages joint PhD enrolment with researchactive overseas universities as part of our internationalisation and research collaboration strategy. Simultaneous enrolment at Macquarie University and one of our partner universities will enable students to submit one thesis for joint recognition. About half of the student s time will be spent at each university and travel funds are provided. Students will be supervised by researchers at the two universities and meet all the requirements to graduate at both of them.
