4 Water Blasting Technology If It Doesn t Exist, We ll Create It: A Case Study. The Problem: Client has a vital system process line with a single entry point. Most of the piping is buried in reinforced concrete and is not readily accessible without costly excavation or modification. The line requires cleaning, and all waste material must be removed and verified while the cleaning work is performed. The Solution: Thompson Industrial designed, fabricated, and tested the necessary tooling and equipment to successfully clean and remove all bio-fouling, waste material, and debris. Technology allowed the client to observe and verify Thompson Industrial s proprietary cleaning process via video inspection and documentation during the cleaning evolution. The Result: An innovative and cost effective solution to a seemingly impossible problem. A very successful project and a very satisfied client. Here s What We Do: Thompson Industrial s water blasting (hydro-laser) technology cleans and removes unwanted bio-fouling and deposits which impair process equipment and reduce flow rates and operating efficiency. With our customized equipment and tooling, we offer you the broadest range of cleaning processes. We also provide the experience, skill, safety, and technical know-how to get the job done. Top: 40,000 psi automated track H 2 0 cutting of steel. Bottom: 2,000 HP large volume water blasting pump. Here s How We Can Help You: High-Pressure Water Blasting (Hydro-Laser) The largest fleet of high-pressure water jet cleaning equipment in the Southeast is ready at Thompson Industrial to go to work for you. Capable of cleaning applications where pressures of 10,000 to 20,000 psi are required, our fleet and professional personnel can assist you with your industrial cleaning needs. Our customdesigned nozzles and automated tooling enable us to provide unmatched speed and cleaning efficiency, without compromise to safety and quality. Large Volume Water Blasting Our experts assess and engineer each job to match your plantspecific needs. Our high energy/high volume pump units are rated at 2,000 HP, with pressures up to 12,500 psi and flow rates up to 600 gpm. Thompson Industrial s multiple automated tooling and task-proven, computer-controlled robotic systems provide effective cleaning results, ideal for large capacity tanks, vessels, and process systems. Ultra High Pressure (UHP) Water Blasting - Cleaning, Cutting, and Dismantlement Thompson Industrial s UHP systems utilize water pressures up to 40,000 psi to transfer desired energy to work surfaces. The dynamics of high-speed, pulsating water produce proven results for industrial cleaning, surface preparation/profiles, cutting, and dismantlement applications. The energy generated by the UHP process exceeds the bonding energy of even the most adherent scales, coatings, or process contaminants. Our concrete and/or metal cutting systems use the same technology and provide an extremely safe, cold-cut alternative to other conventional cutting methods.very low UHP water usage (e.g., at 4 to 6 gpm) results in minimal disposal costs, with little or no environmental risk.
5 Wet and Dry Vacuuming If The Solution Doesn t Exist, We ll Create It: A Case Study. The Problem: During routine outage maintenance work, a client discovered the presence of foreign material objects inside a vital process drain system. The foreign material objects needed to be retrieved to prevent damage to sensitive pump equipment. The piping system required cleaning. Water jetting methods, such as hydro laser, could not be used. The difficult task presented limited access and safety-related concerns. The Solution: Thompson Industrial proposed and assembled the necessary robotic tooling and equipment required to successfully recover all foreign material objects, then clean the piping and safely containerize and segregate remaining waste materials. The Result: A difficult and intricate problem was successfully resolved. Complex project tasks were safely completed, ahead of estimated schedule and under budget. Here swhat We Do: Thompson Industrial provides powerful vacuuming capabilities wet or dry to solve a multitude of complex cleaning problems.we provide dustless cleaning, removal, and collection of liquid or solid waste materials not easily removed by other conventional methods and hydrovacuum excavation. Top: Wet vacuuming of process sewer line. We Put Our Capabilities To Work For You: We operate the largest fleet of mobile industrial vacuum collection and material conveyance equipment in the Southeast. Our vacuum trucks are designed and built to meet standards such as 27 HG, 6000 CFM, with tank capacities up to 17-cubic yards. We also offer liquid vacuum trucks with up to 3500-gallon capacity. Highly specialized vacuum units can simultaneously hydro blast process system lines (storm sewers, yard drains, etc.) and vacuum resulting debris and waste material. For large-scale projects, where solid and/or liquid waste material is significant in volume, Thompson Industrial offers portable vacuum boxes and frac-type storage containers, with capacities up to 20,000-gallons. This specialized equipment provides for the temporary containerization of large-quantity waste material, while cleaning activities continue and accumulated waste materials are sampled and analyzed for proper disposal. Where applicable, specially designed filter-pod units can also be provided for de-watering (de-canting) and on-site disposal of generated wastewater.
6 Pneumatic and Hydro-Vacuum Excavation When The Project Calls For Innovation, We re Ready: A Case Study. The Problem: Customer needed to install underground fiber optic cables for a crucial auxiliary power source. The work area was severely congested with limited access and contained sensitive utility components and numerous underground utilities. Conventional excavation methods could not be safely utilized. Worker safety and damage or disruption to critical underground utilities was of paramount concern. The Solution: Thompson Industrial proposed and assembled the necessary tooling, equipment, and expertise to safely perform pneumatic-vacuum excavation and trenching. Here s What We Do: Thompson Industrial provides state-of-the-art Pneumatic and Hydro-Vacuum Excavation technology to solve a multitude of complex problems. We offer safe and efficient, nearly dustfree excavation and trenching processes, using dry or wet applications, where other conventional excavation methods can not be safely performed. We Put Our Capabilities To Work For You: Excavation work requires safe digging practices. Our Pneumatic & Hydro-Vacuum Excavation technology redefines safety expectations when performing critical and sensitive excavation work. Unlike conventional methods, this process allows us to more safely deal with known and unknown subsurface infrastructures. Pneumatic & Hydro-Vacuum Excavation technology uses pressurized compressed air (pneumatic) and/or water (hydro) agitation to loosen and remove soils. Debris and materials are collected using vacuum equipment, maintaining a nearly dust-free operation. Our Pneumatic & Hydro-Vacuum Excavation technology is very efficient and precise for locating underground utilities, piping systems, fiber optic or telecommunication cables, and other sensitive components. Our procedures result in less fear of damage, possible service disruptions, and costly repair. PIPE PHOTOS COURTESY OF BNP SERVICE WATER PROJECT 2007 The Result: The excavation work was performed safely and efficiently, to near surgical precision. Not a single underground utility component was disrupted, and there were no safety-related issues with this process. No mess: the process is safe, clean, and dust-free. Above: 24-inch concrete-lined service water pipe with oyster shells (before cleaning). Right: 24-inch concrete-lined service water pipe (after cleaning).
7 Digital Video Imaging Technology Far left: Hydro-vacuum excavation of a fiber optic cable trench. Left: Thompson vacuum truck connection to a vacuum box, for hydro-vacuum excavation. When The Task Carries Special Challenges, Thompson Industrial Has Solutions: A Case Study. The Problem: Customer needed to inspect, retrieve, and document Foreign Material Removal (FMR) from a high radiation, vital safety system component. Inspection and FMR object retrieval could not be performed by conventional methods. The Solution: Thompson Industrial proposed and assembled the necessary tooling, equipment, and expertise to safely perform Foreign Object Search and Retrieval (FOSAR). The Result: The FOSAR work was performed safely and efficiently, on schedule and under budget. The video imaging technology and foreign material retrieval process worked flawlessly. Here s What We Do: Thompson Industrial offers state-of-the-art Digital Video Imaging technology, through third-party services, to solve a multitude of complex problems. We offer cutting edge remote digital camera systems to go where other conventional video inspection technology leaves off. We Put Our Capabilities To Work For You: With the latest state-of-the-art Digital Video Imaging technology coupled with Foreign Object Search and Retrieval (FOSAR), we combine our technical know-how and years of operating experience to provide safe and efficient solutions to complex problems.
