3 Beginners Courses No entry requirements. INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTERS This training is for people who have little or no experience with using computers or the Internet. Courses within the introduction include MY IT and e-cert My IT! - This course starts with the basics and guides you through the fundamentals of using the internet. Anyone can learn the first few steps, regardless of age or prior knowledge. e-cert This course starts with the basics and also looks at Microsoft Word, File Management, Internet and Accessories. The course is open to everyone. These programmes are designed to be delivered in a relaxed, informal and fun way. You can learn how to play games, videos, or your favourite CD. You also learn how to type and print a document. You achieve the practical computer literacy needed to participate in this new technological era where computers are used for everyday situations such as shopping, using , banking, paying bills, working, looking up information, booking and paying for holidays online. 4 PHOTOGRAPHY Whether it is a digital camera or mobile phone everybody loves to take photos. But what do you do with them once you ve taken them? This course will show you how to upload, organise, file and enhance them. You ll get to use Comic Life and Microsoft Publisher to create fun and professional looking projects with your photos. Finally you ll be making a video out of your photos using Photo Story 3 which you can then share with family and friends. INTERNET Today it is very difficult to avoid using the Internet. Whether it is looking up information mentioned on the TV or radio or shopping and booking holidays; the internet is now indispensable. This course will give you the opportunity to learn how to go on-line to find information and use an account confidently. PROJECT The course is aimed at encouraging individuals who have learnt computer skills as part of the programme, to develop a project that is of interest to them and to other members of the community. Collaboration can take place with individuals who may not have computer skills but who can instead bring knowledge, expertise and other skills into the project. Project themes can include local history, regeneration, sport and the environment. Page 4

5 Intermediate Courses ECDL Entry requirements at back of Booklet. The European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) is the world s most successful IT skills certification programme. To date, 10 million people have undertaken the ECDL programme in more than 60 countries worldwide. Outside of Europe the programme is known as the International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL); meaning an ECDL certificate is recognised world-wide. The ECDL establishes a standard for everyone who uses a computer in either a professional or personal capacity. It is a certificate that verifies competence in computer use, making the holder readily mobile within Ireland and internationally. Employers and job seekers all agree on the importance of this standard definition of practical competence in Information Technology. Module 1 Module 2 Module 3 Module 4 Module 5 Module 6 Module 7 Concepts of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Using the Computer and Managing Files Word Processing Spreadsheets Using Databases Presentation Web Browsing and Communication In order to achieve the ECDL certification, individuals must pass a test for each of the 7 modules. ECDL Module 1 is a theoretical test of computing knowledge at a general level, while modules 2-7 are predominantly practical skills tests. The ECDL consists of three main components a syllabus, a skills card and a question test base, all leading to the European Computer Driving Licence. Page 5

6 ECDL - ImageEditing Developed by the ECDL Foundation, ECDL ImageEditing is a new certification designed to give you the basic skills required to use and manipulate digital images. By explaining the basics and cutting through the jargon, ECDL ImageEditing gives you the practical skills you need to get the most out of your digital images. ECDL ImageEditing has been specifically designed for anyone who wants to acquire the skills to work with digital images, without having to commit to the time and expense of a professional-level digital image editing certification. ECDL - WebEditing Developed by the ECDL Foundation, ECDL WebEditing is a new certification designed to give you the basic skills required to design and create a simple web site. ECDL WebEditing has been specifically developed for anyone who wants to acquire the skills to create a simple web site, without having to commit to the time and expense of a professional-level web design programme. FETAC LEVEL 3 - Internet Skills This FETAC Level 3 programme module aims to provide the Learner with the necessary knowledge and tools to be able to go on-line to find information and use an account confidently. The module looks at taking responsibility for one s own personal security and privacy when using the internet and . You will develop skills to search the internet quickly and competently to find information of interest. Page 6

7 Advanced Courses Entry requirements at back of Booklet. START YOUR OWN BUSINESS This course combines HP GET-IT training with modules developed by the Institute of Minority Entrepreneurs in DIT. It consists of interactive courses that deal with practical IT solutions for daily business challenges through the use of Technology Tools (T-Tools). The course modules explore how different IT solutions can address common business challenges in the areas of Management and Operations, Finances, Communication and Marketing. WEB DESIGN AND BUILDING Creating your own website is not as difficult as you may think. This course will show you how to get your own website up and running and make sure it gets ranked high with search engines. Here are some ideas you might like to try: Share your family tree with others and find long, lost relatives. Turn your favourite hobby into a part time or full time Internet business TRAIN THE TRAINER - Fetac Level 6 This course is designed to qualify you as a professionally recognised Trainer, and to provide you with an overview of the core Training Design and Delivery skills that will enhance your training ability on a professional and practical level. It will equip you with the knowledge, skills and confidence necessary to design, deliver, assess and evaluate training programmes. Page 7

8 CLiC Community aims to engage, enhance self-esteem, build confidence and motivation, and empower individuals, families and local communities to fulfill their potential via ICT training. A range of courses are offered to communities culminating with the opportunities to acquire professionally recognised accredited ICT qualifications. Opportunities also exist for individuals to engage with non-accredited training as a stepping stone to building the necessary skills for further learning such as increased confidence and prerequisite skills such as self management and gaining a positive experience of learning. Entry Requirements Intermediate Courses In order to register for an Intermediate Course you must have completed at least the My IT! or e-cert Beginners Course with CLiC. We will also allow candidates to register for Intermediate Courses who hold a FIT Certificate or equivalent from another agency. Candidates may commence with any ECDL Module, subject to availability of a Tutor within a CLiC Centre. Having passed a Module candidates have 3 years to complete the ECDL course. Advanced Courses For an Advanced Course Candidates will need to have completed at least two ECDL Modules or FETAC equivalent ICT modules.
