12 Westlake City Schools Each Student Our Best! Decision to Pursue a Permanent Improvement (PI) Levy in May 2015 What is a PI Levy? How does it differ from the Operating Levies we are used to?

13 Permanent Improvement Levy Permanent Improvement Levies are for capital expenditures of a lasting nature Safety/security, technology, hardware/software, heating, bus purchases, equipment, roof repairs, parking lot paving, door replacements usually anything with a useful life of over five (5) years. PI levies cannot be used for the day-to-day expenses of running the district, such as salaries, supplies, benefits, utilities, and fuel, to name a few.

14 Operating Levy Operating Levies are for the day-to-day expenses of running your school district. Westlake City Schools has continuing operating levies and the bond issue. WCSD has regularly utilized operating money (from the General Fund) to pay for capital expenditures
