1 National Education Technology Standards and Performance Indicators As Aligned with the ODS Educator Personal Technology Use Proficiency Exam 1. Creativity and Innovation Demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative products and processes using technology. a. apply existing knowledge to generate new ideas, products, or processes Identify steps for coming up with a new product idea to involve research, use of software, brainstorming and word processing Identify the steps for creating a podcast Use MS Office applications to compose and edit creative documents b. create original works as a means of personal or group expression Understand and use basic MS Office 2007 commands, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and MS Word Understand the use and benefit of a Graphic Organizer application such as Inspiration or Kidspiration c. use models and simulations to explore complex systems and issues Identify and know the use for online simulations, podcasts, and online videos Identify and know the use for blogs and wikis d. identify trends and forecast possibilities Understand how to use software applications such as creation of a MS Excel chart to correctly illustrate trends in data Understand when to use the basic types of MS Excel charts to portray data effectively

Critical Thinking, Problem Solving and Decision Making Use critical thinking skills to plan and conduct research, manage projects, solve problems, and make informed decisions using appropriate digital tools and resources. a. identify and define authentic problems and significant questions for investigation Understand the differences between "real-world", "multi-solution", "single-solution", and "hypothetical" problems Identify and understand the steps in developing a research plan, involving research on the Internet b. plan and manage activities to develop a solution or complete a project Use a graphics editing application to correct/modify an image (blurry, color change, etc.) Identify and use "best fit" digital tools for creating a research paper c. collect and analyze data to identify solutions and/or make informed decisions Identify and understand factors when evaluating the relevance of a website (authority, timeliness, etc.) Identify/Distinguish between different types of files by recognition of the file extension (docx, pptx, mp3, jpeg) Correctly select and print "portions" of a document (spreadsheet range, specific presentation slides, etc.) Correctly bookmark website locations for easy access at a later date d. use multiple processes and diverse perspectives to explore alternative solutions Correctly switch between different views of a document (Slide Sorter (pptx), Print Preview, etc.) Understand and apply knowledge to solve real-world problems
