1 AASD BUSINESS CURRICULUM Computer Apps for Careers (#5000) Description Students will use a variety of software to create personal as well as business documents. The course will emphasize touch-keyboarding skills while creating documents, letters, reports, tables, newsletters, and resumes. We will be incorporating beginning level Google applications, Microsoft Outlook, and various social media to complete projects. Credits.5 Prerequisites Textbooks/Resources Keyboarding & Information Processing text, MicroType 4.0 Keyboarding Software, South-Western Educational Publishing. Students will apply generally accepted accounting principles while performing the functions of the accounting cycle. B. Students will develop and analyze working knowledge of financial reports. C. Students will apply payroll and tax theories and procedures. II. Business Calculations A. Students will analyze and use appropriate operations to solve business and personal mathematical problems. B. Students will use international standards of measurement when solving business problems. C. Students will analyze and explain statistical data in charts, tables and graphs. III. Business Communications A. Students will communicate in a clear, concise, accurate and courteous manner on personal and professional levels. B. Students will apply basic social communication in both personal and professional settings. C. Students will use current technology to enhance the effectiveness of communication. D. Students will locate, assess and use information from a variety of print and digital sources. E. Students will plan and write documents that are appropriate for the situation, purpose and audience. F. Students will listen discriminately and respond appropriately to oral communication. IV. Business Law and Ethics A. Students will assess the legal system in which they live and work. B. Students will interpret laws associated with business organizations, agency law and employment law. C. Students will evaluate the legal implications of contract law, law of sales and consumer law. D. Students will analyze the legal aspects of property law. E. Students will communicate how ethical issues impact the business environment. F. Students will describe business management functions and examine their implementation in business. B. Students will examine organizational structures for businesses and use operations and production principles for effective operation of the business. C. Students will examine the role of the human resource department and its function as means to achieving management s goals. IX. Marketing A. Students will analyze the elements of the marketing mix, the interrelationships and how they affect sales and business processes. X. Personal Finance A. Students will apply reliable information and systematic decision-making when buying goods and services. B. Students will manage money effectively by developing financial goals and budgets. C. Students will evaluate savings and investment options and implement a diversified investing strategy that is compatible with personal goals. D. Students will examine factors that affect incurring debt, cost of credit and legal aspects of credit in order to remain both creditworthy and financially secure. E. Students will explain the features and roles of insurance when making choices available to consumers for protection against risk and financial loss. XI. Digital and Graphic Communication A. Students will create print quality publications for intended audiences or purposes through the use of advanced layout, design and graphics production software and hardware. B. Students will design and publish effective web pages and websites. C. Students will produce media-rich presentations to meet need of audience. D. Students will create digital images for use in publications, websites, digital slide shows and videos. XII. IT Foundations A. Students will use an appropriate digital tool to meet personal and business needs. B. Students will evaluate and maintain current and emerging hardware as it relates to configuring, installing, upgrading, diagnosing and repairing. C.
