2 South Gloucestershire Drug and Alcohol Services offer advice, support and treatment to those experiencing difficulties with drug and/or alcohol use, or who are affected by someone else s drug or alcohol use. Single point of contact Developing Health and Independence (DHI) is the single point of contact for drug and alcohol services. A support worker will ask some questions regarding your problems or concerns and you will then be referred to the most appropriate service. 3 Developing Health and Independence (DHI) Services available through DHI include: Assessments and care planning One to one working with a named member of staff Health screening Structured day care Dedicated alcohol services Harm reduction advice and information Blood borne virus testing and vaccination Outreach and needle exchange service Acupuncture and other holistic therapies Accommodation support Education, training and employment support Substitute prescribing Free first aid for overdose training Peer support SMART recovery Support for stimulant users Member of SPACED* Families and Carers Support Service (see page 6 for further information) DHI work with those who have been affected by a family member or friend s substance use through our families and carers service. DHI supports people in treatment to involve their families if they choose to. *SPACED stands for Stimulant Psychoactive Alternative Club and Experimental Drugs and is a multiagency support group for users of the types of drugs listed above. page 3

4 Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership (AWP) South Gloucestershire Specialist Drug and Alcohol Services (SGSDAS) include: Specialist prescribing Stabilisation Detoxification (drugs and alcohol) Daily dispensing clinic Specialist psychological interventions Blood borne virus testing and vaccination Maternity services Member of SPACED* Young people s transition work Work with families and carers Peer mentoring project and service user forum Hepatitis Support Group Criminal Justice Intervention Team (CJIT)The CJIT are a team of experienced drug and alcohol practitioners providing criminal justice clients with advice and guidance around substance misuse and ensuring they have rapid and priority access to the community treatment system, including on release from police or prison custody. Cannabis Service The CJIT also provide the cannabis service which complements current service provision in South Gloucestershire. The programme consists of a detailed awareness session, leading to four one to one sessions. The team are able to provide support to cannabis users aged over 17 years old as well as parents and carers. page 4

5 Battle Against Tranquillisers (BAT) BAT offer specialist help for addiction to prescription and over-the-counter medicines, for example benzodiazepines and Z drugs. Services available through BAT include: Support groups Home visits Advocacy Drop-in centres Member of SPACED* Several support groups are run in South Gloucestershire. Please call for information about available sessions and venues. Group programmes are one of the most efficient and effective ways for people to access help. However some people may be unable or unwilling to attend them so home visits, either one-to-one or with you, your family and/or friends are also available as an option. BAT also offers advocacy in order to help you discuss tranquilliser issues with doctors, tribunals and courts. Contact details A confidential helpline is available 7 days a week from 9am to 8pm for support This helpline is run by volunteers who have been through similar experiences. page 5

6 Families Also Matter (FAM) FAM offers 1:1 Counselling, 4TWO (for any two family members, including those in treatment) family conferences and family support groups. Services available through FAM include: Assessments One to one counselling Grandparent/Carer support groups Young people s services Young people s drug and alcohol service (YPDAS) offer someone to talk to confidentially, either over the phone or face to face. They can offer advice, information and one to one support to any young person in South Gloucestershire who is under 18 years old. Services available through YPDAS include: Assessments One to one counselling Information sessions Contact details Lines are open Monday-Friday 9am-5pm Venues Drug and alcohol services are available throughout South Gloucestershire and your worker will discuss options about available meeting venues with you. page 6
