DAYS Drug & Alcohol Youth Support Caerphilly & Blaenau Gwent
CRi have been commissioned to provide a Young Persons Substance Misuse Service across both localities to support service users in the recovery journey.
Aim The aim is to provide a Young Persons Substance Misuse service to engage service users in a continuum of service provision in order to reduce substance related harm and improve access to more rewarding lives.
Target Group & Eligibility The YP service is available to all young people under the age of 18 who reside in the Caerphilly & Blaenau Gwent Boroughs. Young Person recovery workers offer support to those who take substances at a level where it disrupts the young persons functioning accessing group work or 1:1 support. The service also targets and prioritise identified at risk groups who exhibit a higher vulnerability to drug and alcohol problems.
Overview of Service The service is delivered on the basis of a Tiered model approach with the provision relating services to different levels of need. Single Point Of Contact (SPOC) Tier 1 Tier 2 Tier 3 with a link to tier 4 services Group Work ITEP Aftercare Peer Support Family Therapy Training support and provisions to Tier 1 services
Single Point Of Contact (SPOC) We provide a central information point for telephone enquiries from potential services users, those in treatment and professionals. SPOC facilitate weekly joint allocation meetings to ensure service users have access to all appropriate services to meet their diverse needs. The service deliver a single contact for providing advice and information and for making referrals.
Tier 1 Tier 1 substance misuse services are part of services that are provided for the general population, everyone can access Tier 1 services. This level mainly involves interventions from generic young people s services. Tier 1 services offer facilities such as information and advice, screening for drug misuse and referral to specialist drugs services. Examples of Tier 1 services Youth Centres School (drug education lessons) Drugs information provided by a GP or school nurse A&E General healthcare services including pharmacies Social Services The service offers support and training to a host of Tier 1 services for young people.
Tier 2 Tier 2 services may be targeted to meet the needs of groups who may be more vulnerable to developing substance misuse problems, such as:- Excluded pupils and persistent truants Children who are looked after (LAC) Young people involved in the criminal justice system The children of substance misusing parents The service provides:- Harm reduction advice and information Motivational enhancement Crisis management Advocacy Advise and Guidance for concerned significant others
Tier 3 This is drug treatment in the community with regular sessions to attend, undertaken as part of a care plan. Tier 3 services are generally provided by specialist drug workers. For young people these drug workers need to be trained to work with young people and should not be located within adult treatment services. The service provides:- Contracted and structured counselling to problematic users and concerned others Structured psychosocial interventions Advice, information and harm reduction can be Tier 3 if they are part of a care plan. Relevant referrals (including substitute prescribing services)
The Service has established links with relevant organisations in order to exchange information and form effective working partnerships. This has led to the ongoing development of recovery communities within the boroughs. Regular feedback through service users, partner agencies and service providers is collated to enhance service development and delivery of both services. DAFS, Barnardo s, Peer mentoring, Social Services, GP s, community projects, supporting people, Llamau, YOS, are an example of services being accessed.
Thank You
