1 MESSAGE FROM THE COMMANDER JAY FISHER Wow! Time has flown by mainly because all of the continuing improvements that have been made. Scott Rockwell has built shelves for two new TVs donated by John Edge. Many thanks to him. There are some members discussing another 48 inch TV for above the bar to the left. This will happen when the other 48 inch TV gets mounted, I hope. The post now has a Lottery Pull Tab Machine installed on the wall east of the pool table. Hope you all will enjoy it so the post can generate some extra revenue. Speaking of generating additional revenue, the west half of the back lot is now ready to rent out to members for storage of RV s, boats, campers, etc.. See me for details. This also provides for some extra parking to the north and east part of the lot, enough for an additional 14 cars. All we ask is that you please not block the driveway into the back lot which is identified. In addition many of you have probably noticed the drive way and lot improvement as you come into the post. The next step will be to install lighting for both back lots. There are so many people I need to thank for all of their hard work to make this happen; Gilbert Padillia, Wayne Ficus, Jack Dempsey, Bill Anderson, JP Pemberton and last but certainly not least is Ron Thompson, the Tractor Man, without them, all of this would not have been accomplished so easily. And I also wish to thank Nancy Mylrea for the many flyers she has done and, hopefully, will continue to do, and for also allowing Ron Thompson to come to the post and play around on his tractor. Bingo has started and we need still some volunteers to work Monday Night Bingo. Those who are interested please contact me at or Ole Larson at Wild West Days was a great success with W. Alan Hall performing with his great band. Thank you all for your support. One last point is that Charie formerly the chef at post 107 is now our chef and since she has been involved in our food, the sales of food have doubled to almost $100 a day which is where we need it to be. If it keeps up like this I could see the post doing $200 a day in food sales. Part of the reason for this is the continued patronage of some of our members who have not frequented the post in the past. This is evidenced by increasing revenues at the bar. We had a great October and we are excited to see what the upcoming months will bring. So many thanks to all who patronize our post and I sincerely hope it will continue. Don t forget we have a new suggestion box for your ideas. Many of your past suggestions have already been implemented. Lastly, I wish to thank Scott Heroldt and J.D Glass, who have been and will continue to do the special Friday Night dinners, then Saturday night dinners once the fish fry starts up on November 7. Many of you are unaware that these gentlemen have donated, on a regular basis, the cost of the food items, which has allowed us to fund the kitchen food operation. I know I probably missed someone to thank, and sure enough I just remembered Gary Davis who donated not one but two meat slicers for the kitchen. If I missed anyone else, please let me know so I can properly recognize you. Meanwhile enjoy the improvements and the new menu.

2 Auxiliary Update Dawn Rockwell, President Our first meeting of the season was held on October 14, and was well attended. Mrs. Ginger Cox, Past Western Division Vice President, enlightened our members on several programs including: Americanism, Children & Youth and the Poppy program. She was very helpful in providing ideas and encouraging our involvement. At our next meeting we ll review all eleven programs and determine which ones will be our focus and create committees. Judy Reardon will be taking our Girl s State delegates (Jenalee Beazley, Jeri Glicksman and Amber Davis) to lunch and visiting with them on their experiences. We discussed our upcoming garage sale and shared ideas on the name. The Auxiliary Estate Sale will be held in February 2015 with details to follow. Please donate your items anytime to the Post and encourage your friends & family members to do the same. Remember all donations will receive a receipt for tax purposes. We are hopeful this event will provide funds to assist our veterans and their families in need. If you know of any veteran that is experiencing a hardship, please contact myself or any board member. Thanks to all who attend our Ladies Martini Night on November 6. A great time was had by all and this has encouraged us to plan future events. What would you like to see at the next Auxiliary event? 3 S.A.L. Commander s Report I am so glad to be back from our annual trip to the U.P. of Michigan, proving once again that I m definitely a desert rat. Our summer was very cold, but we left the U.P at the peak of a fall with brilliant colors and after a week of great riding weather. A big bonus was having friends from our Legion visit us on two different occasions. Our special thanks to all the officers of SAL who kept things running smoothly in our absence. Nancy and I are so proud of the great improvements that took place over the summer at our Post 34. I would like to list them all, but that would take up the entire newsletter. Please come in and visit our Post to see for yourselves. It s exciting and getting even better day by day. Bring in your families and guests as well! My sincere thanks to our Legionnaires, the Ladies Auxiliary, ALR and SAL for all their hard work, and a special thanks to Legion Commander, Jay Fisher, for keeping the ball rolling. Based on our 126 Paid 2014 Dues...our 2015 Membership Goal should be so that translates to our being 45.9% to our 2015 Goal. Just a reminder that all S.A.L. 34 Members have an open invitation to attend the monthly S.A.L. 34 Meetings which are always the second Saturday of the month at 11:30 A.M.. Also, there is always an S.A.L. 34 BBQ on the Third Saturday of the month from Noon to 4:00 P.M. along with a Band from 1:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M.. Thank you all for your Post 34 Support." 4 Riders Corner BY JAY FISHER PRESIDENT Elsewhere in this newsletter I detailed the improvements to the back parking lot. In that article I thanked a great many people for their help. Now I need to thank one of our own family units without whose efforts and generosity the improvements to the back lot would not have been accomplished. I mean the ALR chapter of our very own Post 34. It is through their efforts that we were able to have the funds available to accomplish these improvements. Overall through various fund raisers the ALR had set aside an amount of funds $2, in cash and $1, in Lowes Gift Cards, totaling $3,500 overall. These funds were set aside and dedicated to the legion s efforts to expand the back parking lot and to install lighting. To date we have spent about $1, leaving us with about $2, to pay for the cost of installing lighting in the back lot, which should be more than enough. This next phase is scheduled to begin immediately. It is the intent of the legion to install lighting in both the secured rental area, and the expanded parking area. Lighting for the secured area will be attached to a photo cell programmed to come on at night and stay on until light. The lighting for the expanded parking is slated to be attached to a movement photo cell sensor that will turn on the lights when any movement is present. The final details have yet to be worked out. While some members were working to improve our parking lot entrance they also improved the motorcycle pad parking area by removing all of the old dead cactus and bushes, as well as making the entrances on to the pad a little more accessible by widening the two entrance areas. Stay tuned as some of our members are getting involved in planning for motorcycle ride fund raisers. As of this newsletter the 2 nd annual Memorial Day Ride is still being planned for the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. More details to follow in the coming month s newsletters.

5 Post 34 Announcements Message from the Adjutant By: Scott Rockwell November December 2014 The Early Bird Dinner will be on Thursday November 20 th from 4:30-6:30PM. Bingo has started at the post and is being played every Monday night starting with the early bird games at 6:45 PM. Coverall Jackpot $1, if 50 numbers or less. $500 progressive jackpot, Cash prizes every game determined by attendance. Food and refreshments served at intermission just $3.00, the best deal in town. So come out and play Bingo at the post. The Wednesday night Auction will be starting on November 5th. At 7PM. The Post 34 website is moving along and will be completed soon. The newsletter will also be available on our website as well as the full calendar of our activities. Make sure to bring your 2015 membership card. If not you can still pay that day and enjoy the free dinner. Spouses and or guests can enjoy the meal as well for $8.00 per person. The back lot is finished and is now ready with rental storage spaces for our members. Good for storage of boats, RV s, Jet Skis, Personal Water Craft, just about anything that you wish to store. Call Jay Fisher for rental rate and to reserve your rental storage space or leave a message with the bartender on duty.

6 Website Donation Buttons American Legion Post 34 One of the things you will see on our new website is buttons for those wishing to donate to the American Legion and their various causes. There will be three separate accounts for these donations. They are the Veteran s Assistance Funds, The Building and Improvement Fund, and the General Fund. All are detailed below. You may choose whatever amount you deem fit. No amount is too small or too large. VETERAN S ASSISTANCE FUND This fund is used by Post 34 to assistance Veterans and their families during periods of extreme need. This includes helping them with rent or mortgage payments, utilities, food, gas expenses for VA Hospital Appointments and the like. You may use a Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express Card to make your donation. Your donation will automatically go into the Veterans Assistance Fund account at our bank to be used by this purpose only. Once you have made your donation, this website will automatically take you through the steps to print a donation receipt from our post. BUILDING AND IMPROVEMENT FUND As many of our members have seen over the last couple of months the post and its officers have made many improvements to the post and the property it sits on. There are many other improvements that our post is striving for, including but limited to paving the entire parking lot, paying off our mortgage which is about $65,000 and change, as well as replacing the storage shed, and looking into taking the post solar. Your donation to this fund will go directly into this fund at our bank and the funds placed there will go towards these endeavors. Once you have made your donation, this website will automatically take you through the steps to print a donation receipt from our post. GENERAL FUND This is a fund that donations into will go towards whatever the officers of the post decide. This would be a place where you can donate to overall benefit of the post and where the funds are not earmarked for any particular purpose.
