3 1. Overview The schema below shows an overview of the ADAM components that will be installed and set up. ADAM Server: hosts the ADAM core components. You must install the ADAM Core Components on every server that needs an ADAM engine (ADAM studios, custom interfaces, command line tools, ADAM maintenance managers or indexers, etc ). You preferably install this part on a dedicated machine. ADAM File Store: stores the asset files (picture files, catalogs, movies, etc ) and previews in one or more volumes, which correspond to a physical storage location. ADAM Databases: a number of SQL Server databases that store asset metadata, the ADAM configuration info and license data. ADAM Elasticsearch Cluster: the search engine that is part of the Enterprise search framework in ADAM. You could install all parts of this architecture on one single server. However, it is recommended to install all components on separate servers. You can install multiple ADAM Servers that connect to the same Elasticsearch Cluster, Database and File Stores, e.g. to divide studios over servers at a different location or for load balancing. Similarly you can connect multiple Elasticsearch nodes to your Elasticsearch cluster to ensure the search experience in ADAM scales as your data grows. 4 2. Prerequisites 2.1. System requirements These are the requirements for the different parts of the environment in which you want to install ADAM. The listed software (database, web server, etc ) must be installed and running before installing ADAM. Attention Please be aware that any third party software versions that are released after this ADAM product release are only supported if they are explicitly mentioned in the release notes of that ADAM product. ADAM Server Windows Server 2008, 2008 R2, 2012 or 2012 R2 Windows Vista, 7 or 8 are only allowed for development and testing environments IIS7 or IIS8 (only needed on servers that will host ADAM studios or custom websites) with the following role services installed: Static Content (in Common HTTP Features) IIS 6 Scripting Tools (in Management Tools) You can find these in Server Manager > Web Server (IIS) > Roles and features. NTFS file system.net Framework 4.5 min. 32 GB free disk space for working files (depends on usage, watermarking, etc ), preferably on a separate partition or volume min. 8 GB RAM Additional for ADAM single server environment Most recent update of Java Development Kit (JDK) version 7 or 8-64 bit recommended JAVA_HOME environment variable set, pointing the Java installation folder. 2

5 Elasticsearch server Windows Server 2008, 2008 R2, 2012 or 2012 R2 Most recent update of the Java Development Kit (JDK) v7 or 8 installed - 64 bit recommended the JAVA_HOME environment variable set, pointing the Java installation folder Min. 8 GB RAM, ideally 64 GB SSD or high-performance server disks, 4 cores each File Storage Server NTFS file system (mountable on Windows) A sufficient amount of free disk space to store your asset files In case the file server is combined with the other ADAM components on one server, then it s recommended to use a separate SCSI bus for data access. Min. 50 GB free disk space for asset files Database Server SQL Server 2008, 2008 R2, 2012 and 2014, all editions Min. 25 GB free disk space RAID 1+0, RAID 5 or RAID 1 levels are recommended for data storage RAID 1+0 or RAID 1 levels are recommended for transaction log file volumes Supported browsers These browser versions are supported for ADAM5.5: Internet Explorer 11 Firefox 30 Chrome 35 Safari on Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) More recent browser versions are expected to work, but are not officially supported. 3

6 2.2. Other prerequisites The number of CPUs on the ADAM Server should match the number specified in your ADAM license The user performing the installation (installation owner) must have Administrator privileges on the ADAM Server The common language runtime (CLR) integration feature must be enabled in SQL Server (is off by default). The user account used to connect to SQL Server during setup must have read rights to the master database File sharing and SQL connections must be possible between the ADAM server and the database and file server(s) If you use SQL Server Express Edition, install the SQL Server Configuration Manager and SQL Server Management Studio on the server (these are by default included in the other editions of SQL Server) Installing ADAM on a Domain Controller is not supported in case SQL Server 2008 is installed on that same machine If you don t use the standard port (1433) or TCP-IP protocol to connect to your SQL Server instance you must install the SQL Server Workstation Components on every ADAM Server If you install the 32 bit version of Java, the jvm heap size will be limited to 1.6 GB of RAM It is not recommended to spread Elasticsearch nodes across data centers.
